Autism is so hard to understand and manage. I have Asperger’s syndrome and I was misunderstood to the point that even my teachers didn’t know what to do with me. I wish I had the MERT resources when I was a kid. That mother’s daughter is extremely lucky. God Bless her
@GuidedByGod13
@GuidedByGod13 3 года назад
May I ask, how old are you now? Would you say you wish this resource was available to ease frustration for you or your mom or another reason? I ask because many times I have seen an autistic person saying that its part of who they are and they would not want to change or be "healed."
@colinmilch1523
@colinmilch1523 3 года назад
@@GuidedByGod13 I am 23 and I learned early on into my diagnosis that there is no cure for what I have. I had an IEP when I was in school and I had two mainstream class in which I had to take tests in different rooms to ease the lack of concentration I often suffered while taking tests and quizzes. I was told on more than one occasion that I would never graduate high school and go far. My classmates would often call me faggot and retard because I wasn’t, “appealing”. I wished there was a cure when I was younger because I hated how society determined my worth given my condition. I am glad our society is changing their values regarding having Asperger’s and Autism where it is being taken more seriously.

Mert simply is a customized stimulus to the brain, targeted to where the brain is struggling and uses less power than the body uses to make it's own muscle fire. The targeted stimulus is completely safe and encourages the nerves to fire together in the brain. When they fire together, it leads to better function. This better function is expressed differently depending on the patient. Here, we see a child not only speak, but also emotionally "wake up." A stroke victim will recover more quickly. Anxiety is reduced without medication. Insomnia can be improved/resolved. People with cognitive decline may see improved short term memory. Not everyone has the same results, but everyone sees some measure of improved function.

Will mert treatment affect learning in autistic brains?
@Yours_sincerely_thedreamer
@Yours_sincerely_thedreamer 3 года назад
I have autism and it is a big part of who I am. Because it is the way I see, I process, I think and feel. If I was “cured” of it I wouldn’t be me anymore. And of course I struggle and my parents struggled, but my way of seeing the world enriches me and the lives of the people around me. My differences are not wrong and don`t need a cure. What I suffer from most is not my autism but the way people see it and treat me. As if I needed a cure. Of course I am what people would call “high functioning” and other maybe nonverbal autistic people might have a completely different opinion about it, which is just as valid as mine. But please let us decide ourselves and not our parents. Please accept us the way we are, love us unconditionally and if there really is a wish in an autistic person to “cure” some of the symptoms of autism, check if it might come out of internalised ableism.

This should be addressed to doctors and nurses who deliver babies, but everyone should know, it might help all newborn human babies. Has anyone heard about the “newborn horse syndrome” that suggests it might be similar to childhood autism cause? The solution used on newborn foals who, at birth, aren’t acting with their instinctive reaction to fear humans, they lay the foal down, which is like putting them to sleep for a few seconds by putting something over their eyes, and when removed it sort of re-awakens them after moving through the birth canal and they then have their natural fear of humans, and it changes their brain, and makes them all turn out normal. It sounds like something that might stop some cases of autism. After EVERY child’s birth, cover their eyes immediately with a dark cloth for a few seconds (bright lights) so it can somehow re-awaken their brains which might help like it does for newborn foals. It’s a theory that might be worth a try. See RU-vid “Newborn horse syndrome suggests links to childhood autism.” It takes just a few seconds. Worth a try, maybe make it a ritual.

There are such polarized views on this topic. Maybe this treatment could be made available and each family decide for themselves? I pass no judgment. Honestly it seems like this mother is more interested in her comfort than her child's, but it has helped her daughter also. Its such a tricky topic. If a child is suffering, self harming why not try a treatment to help that behavior? Not as a means of making our children (I have 3 ASD kids) fit into society, but instead for their own safety?

Maybe not a cure but there's nothing wrong with seeking some type of help, something to make theirs and our lives a bit easier. It doesn't mean that we don't love or support our kids but it causes stress on them as well as the parents. They want to be heard, they want to express themselves in ways that autism won't let them, thats why they scream or get frustrated, catch fits, hit themselves and others etc. My daughter is 15 years old, non-verbal, she is my heart and let me tell you,, i LOVE her world but there are good days, and there are bad days and its usually with her menstrual. But those weeks before her menstrual and on her menstrual are very, very tiring, and scary. I won't try this on my daughter, but I won't knock down someone for trying to seek some type of help.
