Acrylic pouring: Fluid art
My pouring medium used for my current work is a pre mix of 70% “Mont marte clear craft glue and 30% warm water, (most pva glues can be made up with same ratios to make a pouring medium), I add my pouring medium to my paint slowly until I achieve the consistency of pouring cream, approximately 50/50 more pm if needed.
My paint brands mostly used are the Mont marte studio acrylics, dimensions, or pouring paints, Boom Gel stain.
When iv mixed my paints I add 2-4 drops maximum of Helmar silicone, also Australian made, I stir in well.
I always like to mix up my paints and add silicone the day before I’m going to paint, and cover with a damp cloth, as I have found I have much better results.

You experiments help save me a lot of paint and also to know what to buy for pouring mediums. Your humor and honesty is so very rare. Also you take the stress from me by you just being you. I have already got my Mont marte paint and waiting for the clear glue to get here and then I'm going to do my first swipe. I'm really excited to get started. I also have shared your videos to my friends and to myself so I'm sitting on ready. Thank you my friend for all you do. I really hope you read this so you will know just how much you are truly appreciated.

PS Gilly, just some history about this technique you probably already know, but what the heck here it is anyway. When artist David Alfaro Siqueiros first discovered his “accidental painting” technique in the 1930s, the simplicity of the process coupled with its elaborate results riveted him. Siqueiros simply poured different colour paints onto a wooden panel, allowing the different colours to spread, coalesce, and infiltrate one another. Black paint, for instance, tends to be less dense than white paint. Consequently, Zenit and Zetina found that pouring white paint onto black paint would lead to the desired mixing. Black on white, however, would not. One of Siqueiros's student in his experimental lab in New York was Jackson Pollock. Siqueiros was experimenting with the new paints, acrylic. Otto Röhm invented acrylic resin, which was quickly transformed into acrylic paint. As early as 1934, the first usable acrylic resin dispersion was developed by German chemical company BASF, which was patented by Rohm and Haas. The synthetic paint was first used in the 1940s, combining some of the properties of oil and watercolor.PPS: Try and find MelyD.artist she never uses silicon, however she places the paint on the canvas then moves it very fast..time lapse camera shows the cells formulating as you watch them....There is also an another artist in Canada Elysia fortu( oh I cannot spell her name, but she also does not use silicon to the best of by knowledge.

I can help you if your trying to get more cells or “fish eyes” in your paintings. It happens when one paint has petroleum or silicone in it and another paint does not. If your mixing blue and red and both have silicone in them, neither the blue nor the red will produce cells. The cells are created when a NON SILICONE paint comes in contact with a silicone substance or surface. Anywhere silicone is present, it will push the paint away. They will only mix if both paints are silicone based or if neither are silicone based.

Thanks for your input. One artist uses coconut oil. I haven't tried it (or anything else as I am just watching for now) Would coconut oil work in place of "silicone"?
@merryclicker

I've had poor results with each kind of silicone or dimethicone I've used but fabulous success with a small amount of white decoart satin enamels added to colors. Not enough to make them pastels, but the cells appear. No cleaning afterward. And no silicone to smell.

Thx for comments about not getting it over night. (In various videos). I can blow 4-5 hours and come up with crap. LOL. This last hour I just decided to dump with every thing I had mixed up...a "mutt" of sorts. Guess what..I lived the results. Therapy has FINALLY begun!!! From a fellow nurse I say thank you for helping with "me" time. Nurses write out emotional checks all day and don't refill our "accounts". No wonder we burn out!! Hi Gilly! Did Elmer's glue give you good results as Mont Marte pva clear glue? You mentioned that Mont Marte's clear glue gave you brighter results because it is clear. I cannot find Mont Marte pva clear glue anywhere for the US even on Amazon and the retailers for Mont Marte in the US. I have found Elmer's clear glue and it says washable. Do you think it is going to give similar results. Would it be the same as Mont Marte signature pva clear glue?
@Oonagh72
@Oonagh72 4 года назад
Elmer’s glue all is not designed to be used on top of anything. It is designed to be glue things together. Over time it will yellow. That is most likely why your clear glue is brighter r

Thanks for this Gilly as I am not a total fan of cells and was wondering if there was a way to pour and not get cells or at least a minimal amount of cells. Not so much with swiping but something like a dutch pour for a beach pour I did not really want a whole heap of cells, I will definitely give it a go to try all paints of same brand with just the glue and water PM. I have heard using a pearl/metalic paint of a variety of different brand paints will cause cells to will have to test that theory out.

Do like car painters do .run the cord around your shoulder or behind your neck. Basically hold the dryer in your hand.extend your arms in like the Jesus position. With your other hand holding the cord. Be sure the cord is at your back. Then adjust the cord as so it is over the shoulder of the arm that’s holding the dryer. Voila cord is now not an issue.

Fabulous Gilly.....your commentary has had me in fits of giggles & that’s how it should be ! Very interesting to see the difference in using/not using silicone.

I think if you swiped the side that didn't have the silicone again, you would have gotten more cells. I have seen it done and I think if you don't put silicone, you need to do a couple of swipes as the paint on top (yelloe) needs to be thinner. Try it and let me know. Thanks.
