I can't believe that this band didn't get more recognition than they did, tight band and great shows live, Russell Smith has the most distinctive voice I've ever heard, their songs can't be covered without thinking about him, rip rus Smith
When the guitar solo on this song starts on "Too Stuffed to Jump",, it will bring tears of joy to your eyes. This is one of the best Southern Rock bands of all time and the guitar solo is up there with Aqualung.
This live performance was stellar. The Band was Tight. Every note played by all in the band blended together. The Tone and lead Byrd Burton pulled off with that Les-Paul here was perfection. RIP Boys🇺🇸
You can’t go wrong with a song from this band. Their first four albums are what Americana music is to the world -love,location and humor…..play on Amazing Rhythm Aces. ☮️🎶🔛🌎
Great, GREAT TUNE .....solo .....and of course Russell Smith' voice. Got to see the Aces just once .....great time, even got to meet the band. This song is a great cruising song, make a lot of miles down the road with this one driving you on !!! RIP Russell ....and thanks !!!!
They had a good number of hits in the 80’s, Russel Smith also wrote many hits for other artists. They had a real career and continued until Smiths death, so far from a Flash-in-the-pan.
Man I was about 15 years old playing music daily with my uncle & his old buddy’s when driving home one night my uncle played me maybe there greatest hits album & hearing Russell’s voice was one of the best things I had stumbled across musically at that young age !! It was very similar to when I heard Levon Helm for the first time , there’s just nothing like that kind of singer…. & The Amazing rhythm Aces what a cool friggin name & Holds True!!!! Just a Great Band all the way around!! Now I’m 40 in 2022 & yes there are good bands still playing but there NOT THAT !!!
I knew Byrd when I lived in Nashville. He was one of the sweetest guys you would ever know. And as a musician, he was one of the few locals that gave a Yankee like me the time of day.
Nice to know he was like that. He didn’t project like a guy with a big ego. Man I love his style of guitar playing and his tone on this and Dancing the Night Away especially. Cheers!
cool comment- dave- i was a yankee, corporate type straight out of college and barry and janis lived across the street from me. Very nice, friendly-we had a lot of fun
@@razorsharpe3371 You're absolutely right, there wasn't an ounce of ego in Byrd. The first time I met him was at a small custom session. I was the leader/rhythm guitarist on the session...... and imagine my surprise when Byrd shows up to play pedal steel. I had written the charts the night before from tapes that had been provided by the "artist". One of the slow songs was in 5/4, a thing you hardly see in rock let alone country. But it worked, and after all it was the artists song, so I wrote the chart as is. So the time comes around to do the song, I hand out the charts, Byrd looks at the chart, looks at me and says, "5/4?". Can't believe I'm doing a session with Byrd Burton. I say, "yep". He replies, "you have a tape?". I say, "yep". So we listen to a bit of the tape and all sudden Byrd says, "Well I'll be a son of a bitch! I've been playing all my life and I never ever recorded a country song in 5/4!!!" By the way, do you play fiddle? I used to know of a fiddle player named razor sharpe.... I think. God it was long ago....
One of my most favorite songs of all times. I remember when this come out. I would be driving my my old GTO. I WOULD KICK IT IN THE ASS that needle pointing straight down on a flat west Texas road.
One of them songs you don’t want to stop and just want guitarist Barry Burton to keep playing that thing out cause it’s a gem of a song and Russell Smith could write some good ones too 3:56
Saw them in the late 70's in New Zealand opening for Leon Russell...as close to perfection as I can ever imagine. Cool to find they reformed nearly 20 years later in part because of a steady stream of support from NZ and Aust
We turned up in a tiny town in southern new south wales called Tathra in a fabulous pub overlooking the ocean and to our absolutely stunned surprise here were these guys playing. Just fantastic. I always remember a comment someone yelled out "You look better without your glasses on Russell" and he replied quick as a whip, "You look better without my glasses on"
Arlo West has a great cover of this song, stating he would come home from school to hear his mom playing this song by ARA cranked up on their old stereo, and he became instantly hooked. And had been playing this ever since he first heard it. Its a great tribute to a great song.
@@johndeschenes8369 as a military brat, 10 states, and 3 foreign countries were my homes growing up. Never lived in Maine, been there to ski, beautiful, and a little too cold for me.
I didn't know Russell was gone, but you are correct . Remember "third rate romance " being played on the radio when it was new. A mixed bag on the radio then with hard rock, novelty songs , and things like this, which was great. Now ---- junk. An obscure band along with "Asleep at the wheel " which was also great.
All this running town to town. Brings me back Home. Trying to keep up with everything. Turns sad when you think of where you come from. So, I guess you knew it all along. Guess her memories are here to stay. Hooray.
Maybe my all time favorite band. They were so versatile. The could play rock and roll, straight country, country rock, southern rock, old time gospel and even a little jazz. No better writer than Russell Smith.
Larry and to all who can add to this library of this band- Thank You. My mind may be failing me but I seem to remember that all of the masters of their recordings were burned up in a fire. Check your vinyl and cassettes and keep 'em coming. And thanx!
Another fine song by Burton some years before he wrote the beautiful "Gulf Coast Highway" with Nanci. I hope Russell is in great short musicians heaven with Steve Goodman, who of course wrote the country masterpiece "You Never Even Called Me By My Name."
So smooth, great song writers. Just realised they were in Australia in 2011 and I didnt know! Look at all the hair. Ive just replace my Too Stuffed to Jump CD from to much playing.
