+Trick Shot Tennis Another one is the what I call "lefty serve" where you switch to a forehand grip and slice it into the opponents body. I've hit multiple opponents with it :P

Thanks Zorawar, in order to get that much been on the samurai sword you have to accelerate as fast as you can under the bottom of the ball and that will give you a tremendous amount to spin. I use the 98 Wilson blade with the 20 x 18 string pattern at 59 lbs. Stay in touch my friend

Trick Shot Tennis I will check out, that was awesome. I had an underhand trick serve when I played college tennis and only used it on players that were jerks! But I got a bunch ago aces out it. Take it easy.

Bait and Switch and Double Ace are both illegal, for deliberate hindrance. The second ball on the court during the point is the culprit.

+maizenblue2441 ACTUALLY not so - once you complete a swing at a ball and miss it, like in the Samurai, it is a Fault.

ARVEE CEE Hmm. I don't see any specific rules about it. Whiffing completely is a fault. Arguably, the samurai's initial swing isn't an actual swing "at" the ball if the player has no intention to make contact.

+maizenblue2441 The USTA conveys the following: A “whiff” does not count as a swing unless it is a serve. If you whiff a serve it is a fault (Rules 19). That Rule 19 is the ITF's official Rules of Tennis. He completes a motion - therefore a "swing" - a second is ONLY permitted on Groundstrokes. Interpretations of the FULL Foot Fault Rule on Movement also eliminates some serves as a few people have pointed out. It doesn't just apply to crossing/cutting the baseline but changing feet or direction and a firm umpire would likely be bitchy about it enough to discourage. The Hindrance Rule might also spoil a few as well and so a "Let" or 3 can be expected :) The Phantom and Con Artist are the best of the Legal trick serves and variations have been used in tournament play. The racket never comes up toward the ball in the Phantom and so he's permitted to still make an action on the "live" ball. Bait & Switch and Double Ace can't be done since you're simply introducing two "live" balls simultaneously into play, which isn't allowed. You're only allowed 1 until that ball is "dead" and a point decided. However, others that involve excessive movement likely would never get off the blocks since the receiver would likely put a hand up for the distraction or confusion over just what in hades you're doing! :) BUT: For fun with friends and just Skill Development, they're all Great Tricks!

ARVEE CEE We agree re. the second paragraph onward. I'm still not convinced about your points that the samurai would be illegal. I saw that exact paragraph in the rules, but what is debatable is whether or not he "whiffed", since he had no intention of making contact with the ball. I would also argue he didn't complete his swing. The initial forward motion is effectively analogous to the the initial backward motion of a typical serve. It serves to get the racket in position for the actual underhand serve, even though the ball is in the air during the motion.

Most of them are legal serve, a few are not. I just played in the national 30's division championship and pulled off the "con artist" trick in front of the chair person and it was completely legal. Stay in touch, I'll have a new trick shot video for you shortly

+Eric X. The _Phantom Serve_ is not legal because the ball actually is tossed by the racquet, not the hand (exception for players who can use only one arm though). The _Samurai Sword Serve_ can be judged illegal as the ball is missed except if the whole serve is completed in one smooth motion (no pause allowed), just like Mansour Bahrami does.

Yes, they are legal, there are some exceptions- the ball can't bounce on the court after you toss it before you hit it :)
