Like so many English regiments, reduced in strength to form these new amalgamations such as The Rifles.

I wonder if these individual units representing previous regiments are encouraged to maintain some of the former traditions to distinguish themselves from the other units serving within the Royal Regiment of Scotland?

@_RabbitLeader yes they do. Each Bn is named after the Regiment they came from and as such they continue the heritage of the founding Regiment. However, my Regiment (A and SH) are only a company sized group who provide troops for ceremonial duties.

@@neilward2148 Although only six by 2006 when the Royal Regiment of Scotland was created: R.Scots, KOSBs. RH Fusiliers, Black Watch, 'The Highlanders' & A&SH- the attrition of the previous fifty years.The remnants of 16 numbered regiments of the line that were converted in 1881 under Cardwell-Childers to 10 two-battalion regiments with 'territorial' identities , subsequently reduced to 6 by amalgamation and disbandment 1945-1994.

You call them "galoshes"? Amazing! In french, a "galoche" (which is pronounced the same as in english) means a rustic leather shoe with a sole made of wood. Gaiters may be?

Sounds like a Mollendorf march Not sure which one . Beautiful slow march tho, 👍 The Regimental Slow March of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, I thought, was The Garb of Old Gaul, same as the Scots Guards .🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧. Maybe this is it ..

@@kenUK762 Yes, sounds something like Mollendorf would've composed. However, I just listened to Nr. 1 and Nr. 2, and the played march really doesn't sound like them. Could it be something else?

@@johnscott3714 open to all British servicemen. The days of regiments actually being mostly from 1 region / country are long since over.

This is Balaklava Coy of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the ghosts of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The Royal Scots amalgamated with King’s Own Scottish Borderers to form the First Battalion RROS. Then they were spirited away into the New Ranger Regiment. Pontius Pilate’s Bodyguard, no more.

Now I think the Royals are 1RRS
