Using white grapes is _genius._ The date one would be spectacular in savory dishes that call for honey. Another tip of the chef's hat to you! What will your brilliant mind think of next? : )
I know, right?... I have missed it so much and was a bit tired of the agave/maple syrup substitution, to be honest with you... Oh, and next will be a single ingredient that's also a superfood that's capable of substituting flour, starch, oil, sugar, and creams in recipes 🤯 You're going to love it 😍
I am already drooling 😛 in anticipation of your next recipe!!. 😛 There is something wonderful about your videos in that you invite your viewers in as you would a friend. By watching & hearing you telling us the recipe steps it serms the videos can trigger one to almost taste & smell what you make in our imaginations. (This is a serious compliment here!) Keep on with your wonderful videos. You bring vegan recipe joy to our lives. 😁 Which is all to repeat that I can hardly wait for your next video, it sounds soo good!! 😋
Wow I just made your Grape version for Honey Vegan It tastes like honey I've been Vegan now going on 17 years And one of the things I missed as a vegan was Honey. Thank you Chef Jana 😊❤
Sister, this is mind blowing! Here in Cambodia, I'm using fresh palm sugar made and gathered by the locals nothing to do with the palm industry. It is very nutritious, very delicious and full of minerals. I said goodbye to honey years ago and now, you present this: God Bless You and your cats and husband! 😍😘💖💚😁😊😉😻
I've been making my own grape juice for two years now, and can't wait to try this with my homegrown grapes, as well as the date one too. Always love good vegan honey recipes. Thank you, Chef! ♡ Sending you much love from Washington state, USA ♡♡♡ P.S. - Sending the kitties some love also.♡
I look at so many things and wish so much that there were vegan alternatives to honey besides agave nectar that just does not make it honey flavor-wise... And today, Jana, you have soo blown me away with your vegan honey recipe (🍯🚫) Yay!! 🎊🎉 Bee compassionate!!🐝💚
I'm so in love with your two versions containing no added sugar! I'll be experimenting with adding some dandelion, roses or probably herbs for a floral taste... ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That is great! I knew about apple honey and date honey but never thought or heard of grape honey! I love the idea! And the fact that it starts with a lisuidy fruit juice means it can be infused with, say, lavender sprigs, jasmine buds, rose petals, spruce needles, cardamom pods... Oh my! the possibilities!
I've made dandelion honey, clover honey, and apple honey (from cider), but they all require sugar. These recipes look amazing, and much easier than flower honey. And definitely healthier with no added sugar! Will be making them!
@@ridgleyhawthorne715 I get my recipes online. There are lots of dandelion recipes. I substituted clover blossoms for dandelions. With the apple honey, I bought cider from a farm market instead of blending apples and straining them. You can substitute any edible flower for the dandelions. You may need more, or less, sugar. I'm thinking of trying pears instead of apples.
@@ridgleyhawthorne715 The apple cider honey is really the most popular honey I make. According to non-vegans it tastes like real honey. But as I said, it does use sugar.
Chef Jana you have done it again! I don't eat entirely plant based but I've been trying to avoid foods like honey but I've never found a substitute. I truly appreciate the creativity and passion you have for your recipes. ❤
Going to experiment with the grapes soon! I have a juicer so I think that might take some of the work out of the process. Should be fun!! Thanks Jana!!
Oh I like the idea of grape honey simply because it is using end of shelf life ingredients....Just that is getting me excited. And thanks for not recommending the more expensive dates (as other channels would do.)
One concern is the texture, which looks fine. The other concern, a very important one, is the nutrient and micronutrient values. That might be an issue with replacing some kinds of honey for people. The dates honey look yummy and as healthful as possible with all the sweetness. Besides that taste is an issue. These both look absolutely delicious. There are a number of considerations but these look super. Thank you.
And one of the wonderful things about dates are that they are a low-glycemic load. Which mean I can have them, in moderation, and they won't spike my blood sugar levels.
This is so amazing and super awesome, Chef Jana❣ You are a genius! I have been missing honey in my tea, cookies, yoghurt and cakes. Now I will definitely be making these two vegan honey! Thank you so much for inventing these recipes and for sharing!🥰😋👏👏👏🙌🍇🍯🧡
Thank you so much. Honestly, I watch your videos for two reasons. 1) I love to cook and use new plant-based recipe ideas. 2) You are so positive and kind that watching your channel is uplifting. I hope you know that you make a real difference in the world and you help so many people.
Thank you. I had a cold with an awful cough in early fall, and remembered my mother giving me a big spoonful of honey for that when I was little. I don’t know if it really helped, but it tasted good, and was given with love. Honey is one thing I do miss. I had it in tea or on toasted, buttered bread. So good!
I’ve been mostly vegan for about seventeen years. During my first fourteen years of veganism, I made no allowances, whatsoever, quite happily. About to tee years ago, I became quite ill with a virus, and wasn’t being helped by simple elderberry infusion as I often had been. Since the, I’ve made allowances for consuming small quantities of honey and propolis tincture when I’m ill. While I suspect many vegan pseudo-honeys are perfectly serviceable in cooked dishes and as garnishes, I’m certain they do not have the medicinal properties of honey, even it the vegan pseudo-honey were cautiously made with with local, medicinal flower blossoms, it would not match the medicinal power of honey, which has the anti-microbial boost of hydrogen peroxide. I’m not proud of this allowance, since it makes me a non-vegan, but it has meant that I’m able to recover from illnesses a little more efficiently. I also never, ever crave the honey and propolis-tincture containing syrup I use after my recovery. My mind and palate instinctively shuts down at the idea of consuming it if its medicinal functions are no longer required.
Some fragrant herbs can be thrown into that boiling water. For example, linden, mountain thyme, lavender basil.. Good luck and cats are also very nice.
I stumbled across a fruit combo that tastes almost exactly like clover honey. I made syrup from ground cherries and a syrup from elderberries (just juice and sugar) and combined 1 tablespoon of each and was shocked. The story behind it is that it was the first time I foraged elderberries and it was a very underwhelming experience but before I threw it out I figured I would try combos with other juices and preserves I had previously made. Another couple interesting combos is prickly pear syrup and elderberry syrup tasted like cherry punch and autumn olive syrup and elderberry syrup tastes like cranberry sauce.
I love your innovative takes on these recipes. I will have to try the grape version myself. I also wanted to mention that if you live in the southern states, sorghum syrup is also very similar to honey (right out of the jar). In other parts of the country, it is not easy to find.
This is grape molasses but less cooked and thickened. You can get grape molasses and add a little water to thin it out. Also date syrup is similarly available, at maybe Mediterranean stores.
Difference is the store bought are pasteurised, quadruply adding sugar to the final product. This is incredibly digestible and can be made healthier by eating it with some healthy fats like almond butter to slow the insulin spike.
Yummy, I sent this to my sons wife. They have an ancient grapevine that covers an entire acre, the trunk is as wide as my car. They never are able to use all the grapes. Thank you so much.
Love this! I haven't made vegan honey yet, even from apple juice. Now I have more varieties!! Question... does the grape version work plenty well even if you don't wait for the grapes to get over ripe? Like, using them straight from the store? Thank you for the great videos!!
Hi @Chef Jana ! I tried grape honey today.... followed all the steps but the color didn't change at all....even after reducing the quantity by 1/3 as suggested. I simmered it all along on low heat. Its has cooled down too but it does not look anything similar to the one shown in the video...... what is it that i am doing wrong... please respond. thanks
Date syrup is really good too..but I guess this would work better for some recipes..especially colour wise. I guess if we are health conscious...we need to just keep the intake of all sugars..including carbs and natural sugar like this low..but better for you than refined sugar..am sure. Recently I have been using coconut sugar as occasionally I make a cake..am wondering what people think about stevia and etythritol or other low GI ones? Are they good in cakes??
