@@snowflakehunterthe single of 1978 was recorded with 9 sets of their voices and this was released on the album the next year. But I thought this video was the UNICEF concert they did live. Would be strange if they were lip syncing to the official track while the orchestra pretended to play their instruments.
@@davidplanet3919 this obviously is not the UNICEF version. This is an official music video. As with all official videos this was done in a studio. Multiple tracks are always done and then they blend the track together to make it sound as good as it does. Get yourself an education on how this is done. I have worked in the broadcasting industry for over 15 years and I know exactly how all of this is done. Get educated.
Sometimes, newer fans don’t realize that the “BeeGees” are 3 brothers. Maurice and Robin are twins (the shorter two). Barry, usually in the middle and taller of the three is the older brother. BeeGee’s…..or BG’s, stands for “Brothers Gibb”. Their last name is Gibb. They had another brother named Andy who passed away years ago. Sadly, Maurice and Robin have both also passed away, leaving only Barry left. This was one of the greatest performing groups of a wonderful era. You should listen to more of their very extensive library. Every song is perfectly performed. No auto tune for these guys.
Most of what you say is true. To me they are the most talented group that ever existed. However, the name Bee Gees came from the oldest brother Barry, and their Australian producers Bill Goode and Bill Gates. All with the initials B.G..
Totally agree, there were so much authentic talent and actual instrumentation when it came to the arrangements, back in the day, that we did take all of that for granted
This was done live. No editing. No autotune. No retakes. Pure talent. On top of this, all of the proceeds went to a charity of their choice. Also, all that talent in one family. Their voices blended perfectly.
Auto tune didn’t exist back then. In those days if you didn’t have talent you weren’t allowed anywhere near a mic. What a shame that music today is in the state it’s in. Yes there are some amazing artists today like Chris Stapleton, Aurora, Gary Clark Jr etc but overall music today can’t touch the music back then.
@@Ray1969.I actually think auto tune is the worst thing to ever happen to the music industry; and especially live music. Since few of the singers today can stay on pitch live they started to add more and more choreography to live shows. Now they're more akin to musical theater than just music. Such a shame but I guess that's now what concertgoers want to see.
@@roadkill7314 couldn’t agree more but I think concertgoers don’t know what they are missing so it doesn’t bother them. If you took a bunch of todays concertgoers and transported them back in time to see people like Queen, Pink Floyd, Grand Funk Railroad etc they would have a hard time accepting todays “concerts.”
Kathy here, I am 68 years old, and it brings a smile to my face to see the younger generation discover the music my generation grew up with. Thanks for the review and check out more of their songs. And yes, no auto tune with these brothers. They started singing together when the youngest brother was like 3! They honed their craft from a very young age. Awesome and will never be dupicated.
Eternos... Tem um DVD deles em 79 especial Tv 79 que é ótimo e sim ao vivo eles era melhores...
Loved the reaction. You've just heard the greatest 3 part harmony in human history. Quincy Jones said, " those 3 brothers, singing together, have an instrument no one else has"
@@MaddyReactions they were born in the Isle of Man moving to Manchester before moving to Australia they have made 100's of songs for other artists too so glad you enjoyed them
No auto tune existed at that time. They donated all the proceeds of this song to UNICEF. They were not only talented singers, songwriters and producers but great humanitarians. Another example of this is their song Blue Island (for children of war torn Bosnia), and South Dakota morning written because of devastation caused by wildfires. Check out Medley in 1989 Melbourne. ❤
Guinness World Records lists Gibb as the second highest-grossing songwriter in history behind McCartney. Gibb's career spans more than 60 years. He and his brothers were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 as a member of the Bee Gees. They are the only group in pop history to have written, produced and recorded six consecutive #1 hits. They also had 16 Grammy nominations and nine Grammy wins.
I grew up with this great group. Love their early music especially 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "To Love Somebody", "Holiday", "Massachusetts", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "Words", "The Singer Sang His Song", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Lonely Days", "I Started A Joke", "Melody Fair", "First of May", "Give Your Best", "Lamplight" etc.
Yes, those are their pre-disco and pre-falsetto hits. Whole different style from their later work. Worth a listen. This song was recorded in 1978, so Barry is singing falsetto, but I wouldn't say it's a part of the disco trend.
@@Spazzmatazzz Well, the movie Saturday Night Fever and the soundtrack album (which is mostly Bee Gees) came out in '77. Barry had been doing some falsetto even prior to that. This is in the thick of that era. I'm just saying I wouldn't define this particular song as Disco.
999 songs to go. No autotune. 3 English Brothers. Deep rabbit hole. Suggest next How Deep is your Love, More than a Woman, Love you inside and out, Love so Right, Nights on Broadway, Fanny be tender with my love, Jive Talking and, of course, Staying Alive...that's just a few from the 70s in a 40 year career. They wrote all of them too. Have fun😊
@@diverdown631 They were actually born on the Isle of Man which is off the coast of England which makes them British. They didn't move to Australia until they were teenagers.
@@MaddyReactions Their actually British…no auto tune - however, vocal stacking were used in this performance . It was their tight high falsetto harmonies that had millions in a choke hold. Checkout “HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE” another massive, smooth R&B hit by them.
@@gavinmcleod7446Nah, we'll claim them mate. :) They formed the Bee Gees in Queensland, Australia - so they're ours. We might loan them to the UK every second weekend if they promise not to whinge too much about the Ashes.
@@TheNotedHero Would’ve had no international success had they stayed in Australia and not returned to the UK 🇬🇧 - your music scene was too backward and immature according to Barry. Their British first and foremost and more American than they are Australian….had massive success in the USA 🇺🇸 where Barry has lived for more than 40 yrs . If you convicts aren’t ball tampering you’re being unsportsmanlike with your stumping’s… when does it end with you lot.🤣
The Bee Gees had an amazing career--reinventing their style two or three times. Most people remember them as a pillar of the Disco genre, especially their soundtrack for the blockbuster movie "Saturday Night Fever!"
@@MaddyReactions Then you're already familiar with "Staying Alive"...but have you ever seen the official video of the Bee Gees performing it? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fNFzfwLM72c.html Also from the disco era, you are probably familiar with ABBA -- but have you seen their performance of top hit "Dancing Queen" ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xFrGuyw1V8s.html )?
I always just loved how Robin stood there with his hands on his hips with his cheeky smile. Seriously, how much talent did these brothers have. They are one of the greatest singers/songwriters of all time 😀
There was no autotune when the Brothers Gibb recorded this in the 70s. You had to have real talent back in those days. From left to right, they are Robin, Barry & Maurice. Robin and Maurice were fraternal twins, both deceased now, as is a younger brother, Andy. Andy was invited to join the Bee Gees, but opted for a solo career, which turned out nicely. He passed away at a very young age. Barry, the oldest, is the only one still with us. They charted songs from the 1960s-1990s. Incredibly talented brothers.
The Bee Gees encouraged Andy to have a successful solo career and he was planning to join the Bee Gees but died before that could happen. The Bee Gees wrote and backed up several of Andy's songs.
This song like the other from the super cult film Saturday Night Fever its 1977 ok cool.... and this song was with the orchestra of 100 musicians a wow sound... what a beautiful memory... kissss..
Yes they can really sing and they have many voices. No band can duplicate them they was one of a kind bands. They had beautiful genes and voices. I love Mo, Robin and Barry. Plus I love their youngest brother Andy Gibb. All 4 guys had those beautiful genes and everything that came with it.
Pure Raw Talent... Not those Self Proclaimed Superstars with their Computer Voices nowadays.... Just Three Immaculate Voices and a Topclass Bunch of Musicians
No auto tune no voice over no lip syncing !! Raw talent ! They harmonized so good they sound like one person ! 19 number 1 hits ! Read that again !! 19 !! Check out the early stuff words , Gotta get a message to you, I started a joke, run to me, to love somebody, Massachusetts, I could go on and on ! These guys were unbelievable
This is NOT autotune. Wasn't even around then. They are three brothers singing falsetto-a method of voice production used by male singers, especially tenors, to sing notes higher than their normal range. :) I grew up in the 70s and took this wonderful band for granted. They are MAGICAL! Thank you, Bee Gees!
You are correct it was in the late 70’s and early 80’s when the country was happy😥 What beautiful musicians that their harmonies can never be duplicated
Pleasure to watch your reaction to the Bee Gees 😍 Barry middle was 9yrs old twins were 6 when they start singing in unison, wow that himself is just amazing.. Their mother and father were musicians. They also have an older sister who did sing with them in their early days, but decided it wasn’t for her and 4 brother Andy Gibb but much younger than all of them became a forced to reckon with all on his own sadly, he died at 30 years old, and of course the twins have passed their sister still alive. Mother and father have passed on… rest in peace.. Amazing family of talent, every single one of them !!! Barry has been married to the same lady for 50 years. That’s impressive as well.❤️ They wrote songs for Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Samantha Sang and many more songs through out there the people have no clue that they wrote… I hope that Barry sees how amazing people have reacted to their gift in love especially this song has been very popular with the young folks. He has great meaning again bless you all.
Ah yes, The Brothers Gibb. 😄 They have a lot of great songs in their catalogue, Maddy. They did such a great job of using their vibrato together to sculpt their songs. Really good stuff.
The Bee Gees were a main part of the disco era, back when we used to all go rollerskating! ❤And by the way, they didn’t really use autotune in the 70s and 80s, that was pure singing!
Love the reactions on this song from younger women. All money raised from this song was donated to UNICEF and still providing money. They raised millions!
An amazing british group. They were born on the Isle of man and then moved to Manchester uk until the late 50s then their parents moved to Queensland in Australia. Then the group decided to move to the USA and thats when things started to change for them and had hit after hit. So many hits over the decades not just for them but writing songs for lots of well known singers.
To know for all those who didn't know because I was on this shoot at the time and Travolta almost didn't make the film because 1 month before the shoot he had just lost his girlfriend in an accident and was still very affected and he wanted to make the film as a tribute to her...(and even if there were difficult filming conditions because he was already a star in New York at the time because he was in a TV series filmed there popular, that's why we were filming in the street at 4-5am because too many people came to see the filming).. here's some cool information to know...
I was 20 years old graduating from.college when they released this amazing song tor the very first time in 1978. The memories you have at that time would remain in this song , it becomes a Time Machine !
I have listened to at least 50+ reactions to BEE GEE's songs, and to a person every reactor is blown away by the music of this group. I love their music and it is so fun for me to see the "melted" reaction of new listeners.
I was a junior in high school in 1979. This song was a popular partner skate at the rink near us, the weekend hangout. We weren't too sure about the sudden disco craze that popped up that year especially after taking in The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Kiss, and Queen for most of the 70s. But you couldn't beat the shivers this one generated when the harmonies hit just that right pitch in there.
All 3 had spectacular falsetto ranges - though Robin (on the left) also possessed an almost ethereal vibrato to his voice. For the purest sense of their talent, seek out their "One Night Only" show. In the middle they did a medley of a number of their songs (and they wrote hits for others as well as all their own) with just the 3 of them standing around a single microphone (much like this video) and a guitar. During a snippet of "Knights on Broadway" there's a spine-chilling harmony with Maurice (the one on the right in this video) doing the falsetto and shortly after as they step away from the mic a little you'll notice Robin turn and give a nod "nice one" in appreciation.
Just came across your channel by accident, but happy that I did. First, good luck to you and the channel. Now, regarding the Bee Gees ... you likely have heard some of their hits but may not have known it was them singing. Some other comments below mine have already mentioned several of their tracks. These guys were one of the biggest bands in the 70s. Barry Gibb (the main singer there in the center) is the king of falsetto. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the "standard" people compare that vocal tone against ... or at least one of them. You are correct, no auto tune. That didn't exist until ... like the late 90s? Early 2000s? This is just raw, pure talent. Oh, and another thing you should go back and watch it again. You will see that all three of these guys are just relaxed singing the song. Barry was like swag personified in his day. Him just rocking to the music, thumbs in his bell bottoms and then casually leaning forward to sing. I mean, come on. Anyway, I wish you nothing but success!

I grew up listening to bee gees in the 70s and 80s. My father was a big fan. My father passed away in 1990 and every time I hear BeeGees reminds me of listening to them with him. Great music. Side note: new to your channel and you’re beautiful.
Before the BeeGees were a disco group they used to sing ballads like My favorite "I just got to Get a Message to You" and "I Started a Joke" Thanks, Rick
This is pure talent. Please react to more of their hits. There is a plethora of songs to choose from. This was recorded to support UNICEF, which is a children’s support organization. They donated all proceeds to this cause. So far it has made over $10 million dollars for the charity.
No auto tune, no filters, live, no retakes...the Brothers Gibb (Bee Gees) were incredibly talented. The 2 on the outside were twins, Maurice and Robin, and Barry was just high note insane. Unfortunately the twins died much too soon from medical issues 😢. Just Puck any of their songs, you'll be impressed. A must do is Staying Alive.
The Bee Gees were ridiculously talented. Happy are those with ears to hear their music, the artistry-craft behind the music, and the love behind the craft. In their music the world drifts away no matter how troubled has been your day. With appreciation and thankfulness comes an uptick in strength for the living of tomorrow. And note: three brothers, one microphone. Yep, ridiculously talented.
Bee Gee's owned 1977 School dances all over! Platform shoes, flared slacks, and silk shirts wide open at the collar. Was a lifetime ago, and I remember it well! 😍
Their mom found them singing in perfect three part harmony at the ages of 5 and 8. They started to at 6 and 9. Were established as the BeeGees in 1958. Wrote all their own songs and have given us over 5 decades of songs this great. They absolutely never disappoint.
I got a Bee Gees Greatest Hits album for Christmas when I was ten years old. I've still got it now. Great reaction. These reactions help people find these gems.
If you dive into this rabbithole, then you have a lot,lot to do.....It's so sad that only one (Barry Gibb, with the high voice) is left today... R.I.P.
No offense to the young and uninformed. THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS AUTOTUNE IN THE 70'S OR 80'S. If you couldn't sing in tune you didn’t sing period. 😮 Just love when youngins finally hear our music 🎶 youngins finally
Right you are! In those days, you were either good or gone--survival of the fittest! Today, "singers" don't need talent to succeed. Good looks, autotune, and a big promotion budget is all it takes...and the result compares poorly with the "golden era" of popular music: '50s through '80s.
First time hearing your reaction video and I love your insights love your vibe love your genuine feelings for the genre, just an outstanding RV. New fan from California! And yes I crushed the like and subscribe 😉
The Bee Gees were the biggest acy in the world during a 5 year span in the 197o's. People used to joke that Barry, the oldest and primary singer, looked like Jesus and was reincarnated during their run. His great hair, perfect vocals, and handsome looks carried them through the disco era, along with the music they created. Along with the talents of twin brothers, Robin and Maurice, the group was indelibly wedded to 7o's dance music. Until disco fell apart. Songs from their catalog for your ears are; NIGHTS ON BROADWAY, LOVE SO RIGHT, HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE, and YOU SHOULD BE DANCING. Their youngest brother Andy is talented, too. He looks very much like Barry sans the beard. Also, from the 7o's. BABY COME BACK by Player YOU'RE THE ONLY WOMAN by Ambrosia I'LL BE AROUND and COULD IT BE I'M FALLING IN LOVE by the Spinners. The 7o's and 8o's were my favorite decades growing up. We had fun. And the music makes you feel good all these years later. Something we could really use more of now. Keep smiling 😃.
In the day, I came from a Country music background and many country fans and many hard core rockers would belittle the Bee Gees music (seems laugable now that we all did this) - many held a grudge for their influence in popularizing Disco - but as I have aged and seen changes in music and now free of gendre lock-in, I am amazed by the Bee Gees! I think this song could be one of their best. Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb wrote this track with "Tragedy" in an afternoon off from the making the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie! Amazing talent! They wrote Islands in the Stream! Which ws a big cross over hit for Dolly Parton w Kenny Rogers - and their talent in force from the 60s thru 70's into 80's was undeniable - Its great to sit down now and listen to them and be in wonder of how good we had it as far as music is concerned back in the day - we had been spoiled ;-)
Awww im so glad you appreciated that amazing display of vocal talent and beautiful harmonies, im 51 and I say a good song is a good song whoever sings it, but for someone young like yourself to get chills from this song shows this song speaks to people of all ages, it is undoubtedly my favourite song of theirs and one of my all time favourite songs, just great lyrics and faultless vocals ❤️
Maddy, this was 1979...the Bee Gees 1st mega hit, and it was MEGA after the disco era songs....these guys are just too awesome, and the studio they are recording in, right there, is the famous Criteria Studios in North Miami Beach....they recorded the whole Saturday Night Fever album there. Barry still lives with his bride of over 50 years in their LA Gorce (the name of the neighborhood in Miami Beach) mansion....it's beautiful !!!! I live in a western suburb of Miami
I first saw the BeeGees on the '60's Australian TV Show, Brian Henderson's Bandstand. They had their first number one hit in Australia, then took off for international acclaim virtually launching the Disco era. These guys wrote around a thousand songs. So many great hits. Thanks for your reaction Maddy. Cheers from Sydney.
I'm from New York city. Oh and yes thats there voices. I am 60yrs old and I grew up listening to the Bee Gees. They are all brothers. The two on the ends are twins, Robin on the left and Maurice, Barry is in the middle. He's the oldest. I have a great song for reaction to. Barry Gibb and Barbara Streisand and the song is called "Guilty"
These men are legends, My father always used to listen to them and I as a kid never understood the talent these men had instead I laughed but now wow man I got shivers down my spine from this music.
