Earlier this week, my Mom (who happens to be a pretty serious watch collector) had a good laugh when this “BiDen” appeared in her Amazon search while looking for a specific Seiko. I was equally thrilled when I saw it appear in your video and will put it on for her later. 😂
Those marks by the straps lugs indicate that the watch case is MIM - Metal Injection Molded and thus a cheap alloy like zinc is used then chrome plated.
I think you're thinking of die casting. MIM is mostly ferrous alloys and can be done for titanium and even tungsten. MIM parts would be too costly for this watch.
I bought a Spaghetti Scametti watch at the sale and got the stupid stuff in the box - but don't undersell it, the watch is allright! If you didn’t go for making a point with it, I think you could make a great watch! (I only hate the bracelet, but I've handled a Tsuyosa briefly, and they might have used the same manufacturer).
I’ve got Seikos,Citizen,Casio G-shocks,protreks,Accurist,etc and funny enough this watch hasn’t lost time against them since changing the battery,it’s a Chinese brand and nothing to do with President Biden,I bought this watch for my dad, whom I lost,so I’ve got it together with his citizen.
I bought this watch for my late dad,he loved it,I have it now, just replaced the battery in it this morning,it looks good, but it’s probably mass produced and cheaply made.
Presumably the Watch forgets the time on a regular basis, date remains permanently stuck on January 6th and falls out of its case randomly when the wearer is walking up stairs. 🤔
I love your take on watches most of the time. You have me in stitches, but when you point out good and bad points, you are honest, and that must be an important point, so when you say a good watch ⌚️ then I will get it and put it in my watch collection so keep up the good work
you might be able to calibrate the chrono second hand by pushing buttons with the crown out. I had a 10$ chinese chrono with a similar layout that you could move the second one second per button push until its correct.
This video has decided me to add three high-end pieces to my exclusive collection: a TROLLEX, a Chaque Heure Pour la Minorie (if you know, you know), and the crown jewel, a Spaguetti Scameti.
I bought a BiDen black plastic "dive" watch from Amazon for £9.49 for my holiday back in May. I wore it in the pool every day and I've worn it everyday since. It looks ok and keeps good time. Bargain
That watch is NOT stainless steel...AT ALL. All that rough area on the underside will turn into bubbles from skin sweat in a matter of months where the plating is coming off. I've been thru this before.
It sucks that it's listed as steel, at least we managed to debunk it at the end of the video, but customers shouldn't have to own a Mohs hardness kit to find out!
If you want a cheap dive-watchy watch, I would pay a few more bucks for when a similar Invicta goes on sale for $45 or $50. You at least know it's decent quality.
Do no watches sell on Amazon UK? Because the best seller on Amazon Japan is 7K per month, your watch would not even be in the top 20 sellers. Yeah just checked, even on amazon UK that watch doesn't sell, only 100 a month. But UK sales for watches seem a Tiny fraction of other regions.
It's kind of amazing how your mate didn't catch on that you were filming the conversation at all, not even after you basically told him that was what you were doing. 😆
1:19 Cant remember who i heard this from (some tech or scambaiter RU-vid channel years ago) but when it comes to "rating" systems, you can tell it's a dishonest rating based on high review, download, or sale numbers with an average rating of EXACTLY 4.3 out of 5. It's been found that these listings have hundreds, if not thousands, of paid or bot reviews, with the reviews having ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LISTING
9:21 lol this is like those target skateboards where they wrap the board then put the trucks on so there's always that bit of plastic between the wheels
If I was that watch company, I’d be tempted to use a larger selection of world leaders just to see which is the most popular. Shame they didn’t have a TrUmp just for comparison of sales figures.
Thanks for the entertaining review. For people who know even a little about watches, they wouldn’t buy it, but I’m sure it fools a good number of people. And depending on the outcome of the November Elections here in the US, the name of the watch may change. 🤔
Great review as always. I would just like to address two things. The first is that this chronograph layout isn't that uncommon. I have an emporio Armani that has the same subregister layout and a ticking Central seconds hand. I think the Chinese movement might be a clone of this TMI Seiko movement. I see a lot of chronograph movements like this come in for battery changes at the jewelry store where I work. The second thing I'm going to chalk up to the fact that you buy so many new watches you've probably never had to do it, but most courts chronographs have a future where you can pull out the crown and set the chronograph hands back to zero. When the battery on a chronograph runs out off in the hands are in weird places and I have to reset it for my customers. I'm not sure what you have to do with the Chinese movement in this watch but the manual should let you know. Sometimes you have to pull out the crown of the first click sometimes the second click, sometimes a combination of both, but there should be some way to reset the hands to zero. That's not even a manufacturing defect that's just something that needs to be corrected.
I have many watches, seiko, citizen,Casio G-shock,lorus,timex,sekonda,I bough a rose gold colour Tommy Hilfiger, nice looking watch until you look inside or change battery, then low and behold you can tell they are like your Armani cheaply made watches in china made of mediocre materials, and it’s plain that all the profit goes to the relevant fashion houses,I was told by a mate to give a wide birth to designer watches as they are of inferior quality,I should have listened to him,but it is ticking away so I’m sort of ok with it for now,it’s best to stick with reputable brands.
You can set the Chrono hands by pulling the crown and using the pushers if you want to align them properly. Hold/push the top for seconds counter and hold/push the bottom for the minutes. Don't ask me how I know this 😂
I got a BiDen years ago from Amazon. Apart from one button which got bashed out (why do I not take off my watch to play football?) it's lasted brilliantly. I am amazed at how indestructible the face has been. I've slammed it many times and it's only got a single, short hairline scratch. I think it was for less than £25 and I have to say it's about the best £25 I've ever spent.
Reminds me most of the Bulova Marine Star line. So many royal blue with gold accent references from Bulova. I reckon that’s who they’re trying to copy.
Hello everyone. I'm new to the watch community and recently discovered Vescari, seems a good deal from a Dutch micro-brand, still don't know if it ends up being a good option. I'd love an opinion... Cheers & a happy new year! Great video btw.
Yeah that was my first thought too. Also, the rough finish on the inner surfaces are just machining marks, it's probably just a cheap SS alloy that's softer than 300 series.
Cool review but for $30 more you can find an Invicta pro diver with a reliable seiko NH35 automatic movement, sapphire crystal, and 200m water resistance.
Late to the party, but I thought for sure it was going to be an Olevs. I have an Olevs that's collecting dust, but I'm a Vostok and Pobeda guy. EDIT: I've been to Guangzhou several times. It's absolutely lit. If you ever get the opportunity to go, I'd highly suggest it.
I bought one of these BiDen watches. I couldn't afford anything more expensive. It tells me the time and, when necessary, the date. That's all I need. Mission accomplished. I hate watch snobs.
Off topic I know, but my Dad has an all stainless steel (SS) Casio that looks like my 91 that my Mom got for him in 1981. It still works. Do they still make a SS watch? My 91 is 16 years old still runs, I wore it to Iraq in 2008/09 & might want to retire it.
I got the black megalith made by the same company, using the same cheap insides . I gave a 1 star review on Amazon, I got an email saying i could have 75 percent money about 25 I took it, as the watch had stopped, I went to an actual jewellery shop paid 65 for a sekonda ( last expensive watch I had, I broke ergo why I buy under 100 gbp) got the sekonda back home and just to annoy me the megalith started working. But the insides are plastic and cheap..
unfortunately the sekonda isn't going to be much better. theres a good chance sekondas come out of the same factory BiDen was made in. if you want good dependable watch brands under 100 GBP there is a wealth of choices, but you gotta do your research.
I'm going to be honest and admit that this is the first video where I realised Spaghetti Scameti was not just entirely fictional (I don't know how it passed by me for so long). You guys are great, instant buy for me.
I know I'm deep in the hole the moment how just seeing the dial and the slow ticking seconds hand is enough for me to identify it's using a cheap SII VK63 movement.
First, it's a stretch to refer to this as a watch brand. The factory that puts it out is merely assembling parts that include a Japanese movement. That is, if you can even trust that it *_is_* a Japanese movement and not a Chinese counterfeit. The only Chinese watch I ever bought didn't last one week, so I won't be burned again and I doubt the watch in your review will survive its first battery change. Anyone who orders a watch off Amazon deserves exactly what they are likely to get -- one that is defective or counterfeit, or both.
Funny enough, the design of the watch reminds me of a Zenith Rainbow frome the late 90s. I'm not saying is a one-for-one homage, but certainly is similar.
Vincero is also another one. Designs are definitely better, though their QA, while decent, does have the occasional miss. And yeah, MVMT’s automatics got way better, especially the Cali diver. It’s comparable in terms of specs to the Seiko 5 GMT, except it has a sapphire crystal and is ISO certified. I cannot speak for their quality as I don’t own one.
I bought a BiDen about 4 years ago. To be honest, it has been the only watch so far I have bought solely because of the brand, as a commemorate piece so you will😂. The watch totally lived up to its expectations, which in this case was a negative. The battery of the real Biden outlives this ones, but it is still a keeper.
Hi, not sure if your gonna read this, but my name is Michael Aguirre and just got into the watch game. Could you possibly do a video comparing the WISE ADAMASCUS AD861A Stainless 904L To a Seiko watch of equal value from the presage collection and compare them? Please this would be so awesome and thanks for your videos!
These watches that major online retailers are letting sell, mislabel products are dangerous.. I am allergic to nickel and I would have a bad / painful skin reaction and possible an asthma attack if I put on a plated watch like this. I bought a "stainless steel" bracelet for a watch from amazon and put it on a watch ...within 30seconds of putting it on I started having breathing difficulty and felt a burning sensation on my wrist ... I basically ripped the watch off my wrist and had to get my rescue inhaler.... ended up with a red itching reaction to this supposed 316L bracelet for about 5days afterwards.
Buyers beware: do not wear while cycling, walking up stairs, or ascending very small platforms. It is safe to wear while eating ice cream and sniffing people.
The Sunon PE90 is garbage, that will break down in a few weeks or maybe months if you ever use the stopwatch functions. There were some popular Megir homage watches that used the PE902, and according to watch forum members, myself included, they had very short lives. I actively avoid Chinese quartz movements because of that experience.
Great review, but you cannot accurately guide a metal by a scratch test. If you want a definitive answer (especially with a very cheap watch) cut the case in half to see if there is some sort of plating shenanigans going on. Or if you have the budget or a friend that work with a mass spectrometer send it in for an analysis. Vostok uses some very soft stainless steel, but they (in most cases) are stainless albeit softer than 316L. A scratch test is merely testing 'hardness' based on if a particular material can scratch another material.
So wait. You’re an Amazon affiliate. You drive traffic to their site with every video, and you often encourage people to buy products from them. Now they turn around and say you can’t show their website in your videos?
If it was like kind of foggy and kind of dark, and you were standing 30 feet away, and you tilted your head just right with a little squint...... Sure that thing would totally pass as a yachtmaster 🤣
One necessary pronunciation correction: BiDen may be tongue in cheek, but look at how it is spelled! "BiDen", with that capital "D" strongly suggesting, that the correct pronunciation is actually "Bee Denn", which certainly appears like ... oy, dat sounds like some Chinese name or thing or something!
Amazon is filled with third-party ( generally inexpensive ) products that are identical to each other. Just with a different 'branding' on it. A factory in China will make a 'run' of them for one investor, who will sell those as a third party seller on various online platforms. Then another investor will also purchase themselves another 'run' of the same product, just with their 'made-up-brand-name' on it. Usually they will be priced differently. - to catch Westerners off guard. This is a regular and perfectly normal business practice in China.
I guess this watch is interesting due to its popularity, but I'm surprised you took the time to review it, Ben. To me, it's clearly a dreadful watch. Even if it were stainless steel, Lorus offer steel watches with 100M WR for similar prices, so it still wouldn't be unique on the market. The design is indeed not a carbon copy of any other, but it is a Rolex Submariner design with an added chronograph. And the kicker for me is the 2-tone design. Watches that masquerade as gold and aren't, to me, look extremely cheap. Because it costs so little I respect this brand more than the likes of DW, but it's still basically a useless watch to anyone who buys it.
Amazon reviews are only good for discovering if a product has a reliability flaw. Otherwise most praise only represents the fact that it operates as described within the short time owned, without anything to measure its true performance or quality.
Got an androgynous 'matey' bubble bath for Xmas... cannot wait to take the plunge...Q...do ya think the 'Raidox' shall suit the experience or shall I go for a certified diver?
