I guess they had to leave off the feet in order to pay for the diamond stylus? The line output sounds rather tinny, so it's not fully impedance matched, although it's not as bad as some suitcase players I've heard.

Back in July I bought a kedok (kedok was the seller) suitcase player for $65 cad that’s with a $15 coupon a couple days before prime day it was in my budget price range and because I’m new to owning a record player I didn’t know much about how to buy one so while I was waiting for it to come I was watching videos and came across record-oligy and loved the videos I watch that I subscribed and now have been subbed for almost 2 months I’ve learned a lot

Its a start. Ive been in 5 years now and have a decent set up. Dont let people tell you as a newbie that what you got is garbage. I look at as entry level and once you know what you need and how you want the room set up... then you can go after the bigger better machine. Ive got several different and types of players. All on good deals. Now i get to sell and get the others to someone who can use them. Im just glad youre a newbie coming in to the fold. Welcome.

A decent pair of amplified bookshelf speakers do wonders for these little players. I recommend the Edifier 1280Ts, which cost around $100 for a pair. Might be a little steep for a beginner, but these are wonderfully versatile speakers that can be used as a basic home theater setup, as computer speakers, or as a means to play audio from portable devices (cell phone, mp3 player, cd player, etc.) without the need for a full 'stereo setup. They can be used with a basic player,, and later on they can be hooked up to an LP60 or other proper turntable.

When it comes to entry-level turntables or record players, the more newcomers get to see and experience the better it is for the hobby. I grew up in a household with record players and records but never one of my own. When my wife got me the Crosley all-in-one it started me down the rabbit hole. Receivers, speakers, phono preamps and cartridges along the way. Now, I have a multiple turntables and looking to buy my first $1,000 turntable and it would never have started without that Crosley all-in-one.. (And yes, my wife regrets it)

As of 9-4-23 they got it on sale for $34. At that price it'd really make a great starter player. I'd though recommend getting some good $10 headphones to listen to it. Later down the road upgrade to a affordable magnetic cart player. Good review.

If anyone was going to buy a suitcase player, I would recommend this one based on the fact it comes with a diamond stylus. That's way ahead of the ruby/sapphire styli that are on other suitcase players. With a diamond stylus, you are going to get at least 300 hours of playback as opposed to the 100 hours with the ruby/sapphire needle before it wears out.

If it had a Banpa magnetic cartridge with the flip stylus, it would be so much better. Speed adjustment on the top or back would even be better.

Great review. I used to have a setup with a Miracord turntable, Shure M93? cartridge, ADC 404 speakers and various receivers. All long ago. Now put together a Realistic SA10 (sold for years for $29.95- bought EBay $25.00) . A couple of Pyle Home speakers which seem like the old Radio Shack Minimus (about $25.00). I have an Ion turntable I used to digitize my 45s. For my small space and not want to disturb condo neighbors, works well and I play mainly opera (and my mother's old LIberace!) and works well for me at low cost.

What would be nice for these suitcase TT/ players is to include a lithium battery pack so it can be REALLY portable and play records when power isn’t available At least playing this thru your hi-fi or other amp speaker makes it sound better than the tiny speakers in the set.

It did sound a bit wobbly (wow and flutter) on those last two tracks especially, it must be said. The lid of the device can be used as a 'now playing' place to sit your record sleeve onto so you have a ready to use track-listing; of course. The sound from an input device will also be available via the headphone and not just via the speakers. (Just pointing out the obvious perhaps, but there you go). Speed issues MAY also adjust/correct slightly after some usage, of course. And, depending on the weight of the record it could also affect the speed perhaps too. Again. a slight drop of oil on on the moving parts (motor and the like) might also affect overall performance. I'd prefer to use better speakers than the built in ones; for better separation of stereo and improved sound overall. One other thing to consider is when playing 78's the sound will be in mono, of course, so what happens with regards this for this player? Does the sound come out of one speaker (or headphone) or is it sent to the 'middle' or 'duo' field, whereby the sound comes out the same from both speakers. Just asking as it's not mentioned in this review. (I won't mention the forgetting to plug in the device though. Oh, I have, oops!). LOL.
@w7777777s
@w7777777s Год назад
All mono records give you identical sound from both speakers. It’s sort of baked in to how it works.
@stefanegger

WELL... The sticker says 5V, 1,5A and the back legend over the connector says 5V, 1A, very misleading. And the input elector says LINE IN, while the back says LINE OUT, so I am not sure if the function is even what is desctibes on the labels.
@Recordology
@Recordology Год назад
There is a line input on the front… It is 1/8”
@GaryKeepItSimple
@GaryKeepItSimple Год назад
The book says 1.5 amp power supply, and the sticker says 1.5 amp so it is fair to say it has a 1.5 amp supply but the panel says 1 amp which means it will only want 1 amp. as a normal load. That is normal, 1 amp needed 1.5 amp supplied to allow for peaks and as a safety margin. I would be worried if it did not have a 1.5 amp supply.

In my opinion, once you have reviewed one these suitcase record players you have reviewed them all. There are very little differences between them and they pretty much perform at the same level. This one seemed to have zero quality in terms of sound dynamics. Especially when listening to the direct feed sample. As to the subject of tracking force, while 5-6 grams is within tolerance it is by no means ideal. No it won't immediately "grind up" your records. However, the heavier the tracking force the faster your records will wear. If you play your records exclusively on a device with such tracking force you will start to notice it much sooner then on a device with a lower tracking force. Especially if your playing records pressed on styrene. Such as some 45s. These devices are good for those that want to explore record collecting and aren't sure if it is their "thing" or for a young child to play those story time children's records.

The lack of rubber feet is odd. Even the cheapest of these usually have them. Feet and a pitch control would make this punch above its weight at this price. As is it's barely acceptable.

Such mixed feelings about these. My first was one of these (Victrola) I just got last year. I knew it wouldnt sound great (especially with on board speakers), but never expected it to be outright horrid, or for it to fail to play most things (regularly skip on most all modern records i tried.) Ultimately led to me buying an actual turntable 2 weeks later, because it did give me the bug for the vinyl hobby. Its funny because you cant knock these too hard for getting people into the hobby (never would have happened if only thing on the market were $150-200 for even the most entry level turntable), the $40 suitcase got me in, but yeah these suitcases ARE junk 😂
@kevinpatrickmacnutt
@kevinpatrickmacnutt Год назад
They won't damage your records, they just don't sound very good. I will say a drop of oil to the bearing may resolve the wow and flutter issues. I bought a Crosley used for about $10 to play with and I got it sounding a little better with an improved Banpa stylus, speed adjustment and some sewing machine oil. That said, the Skywin mechanism is extremely limited as is the ceramic cartridge.

Very fair-minded and thoughtful review. My ear detected significant wow when playing all tracks, but this may be due to the turntable's 10-inch platter (not a full-size 12-inch platter), so the LP being played doesn't have as much support as with a full-size platter. The disk did not appear particularly warped, but might be a slightly off-center pressing. All in all, I liked the Amazon Basics record player for what it is.
