Amazon CANCELS Expensive Flops After CEO DEMANDED Answers

The Peripheral and A League of their own have both been cancelled by Amazon Prime video after previously being renewed. This comes a little over a month after the Amazon CEO had started asking Amazon Prime video about their spending. Jennifer Salke has previously been mentioned as more interested in saving reputations rather than the bottom line. Especially important to consider when much of this spending has gone towards expensive shows with little audience appeal, or to writers who never even made created anything for it. Did you think the peripheral or a league of their own was worth watching?

The Periphal and League of their own have been cancelled after previously being renewed by Amazon Prime Video for absurd reasons. In a rare win for Amazon, sanity rules. Instead of renewing financial failures like The Peripheral and League of thier own because we wanted to preserve someones feelings, or we're been emotionally manipulated. The bottom line once again becomes more important. It's just a shame it took the CEO demanding answers about Amazon Prime Videos spending and budgets before these obviously bad decisiones were reversed. It begs the question, what will happen to the the people responsible for the decisions in the first place. Amazon Prime Video can't have the Amazon CEO looking over every decision all the time, the only way to run a company like this in the long term, is to have reliable leadership incharge in the first place. But what do you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

As I put below, Amazon would be better off if each month they gave a couple random frequent viewers of Amazon Prime content a million USD just for watching. This way they would get more people watching and wouldn’t require spending 100’s of millions of dollars to produce total shit series.

I wonder how the low end workers for Amazon feel, who are working for minimum wage, when they see Amazon throw tens of millions at no talent entertainment workers? The menial workers for Amazon help make Amazon profitable, yet get nothing for it, but grief, like getting sacked for taking a few seconds too long on a toilet break. Some of the Amazon workers take bottles to work with them to urinate in, so they don't risk getting sacked for taking too long at the loo.

When I was a freshman in college, I came into a seriously struggling theater program. The main director was enamored with weird, off the wall shows to "confront and challenge" the audience. You might get 20 to 30 people per show, the program was in bad shape. Along with me, came a new director who realized that the world sucks and people just wanted to be entertained. He started doing "meat and potatoes" shows. By the time I graduated, we had sold out, standing room only shows every single night. There's a place for avantgarde, off the wall sturm und drang - but it's not going to make you money.

When I was at an extremely prestigious film school, one of my classmates -- a German admitted because he was sorta black -- did a "meaningful" project based on the work of a pair of German post-war communist novelists. I think the company you're talking about is distinctly different from Amazon Studios. It's a very bad look for a woman in charge of the studios to be making decisions based on her emotions - While deliberately ignoring focus groups that told her the truth, which she did not want to hear. As a woman, I feel this is worse than cringe. It's feeding into a (some might say THE) negative stereotype men have held against women and the advancement of women's rights since the mid-1800s. Why don't the Hollywood decision making people understand that they can try to lecture as much as they want in their "entertainment" offerings, but nobody's watching them except perhaps a tiny niche audience, so what's the point? I guess it makes their smug conscience happy ("I've done MY part in telling the deplorables what to think") and helps them to feel "seen" by the people whose approval they desire - and that is certainly worth hundreds of millions of dollars, right, Amazon? 🤔

@@dronesclubhighjinks You mean why women should not be leaders? Well sometimes, you just gotta give them what they want. Give them enough rope to hang themselves. Kathleen Kennedy was one of the biggest ones to have fucked an industry with her decisions. Now it's Amazon's turn. They think making women act like men is a way to show off the power of femininity in their movies, they're only proving that masculinity is the trait most needed for leadership.

Jack Reacher is a fantastic show because it was based on the writings of an actual author, Lee Child. Someone without an agenda, someone who isn't trying to make an impact on the world, he's just trying to write a good story with good characters. The showrunner (Nick Santora) also happens to be extremely experienced and competent, which you can't say for many other Amazon dumpster fires like Rings or Wheel of Time (also based on writings of actual authors). @johnandersonii
@johnandersonii 10 месяцев назад
Wheel of Time has some of the best fantasy source material the literary genre has to offer. The show runners decided they wanted the name, "Wheel of Time", but they wanted to have theie own woke story which has nothing to do with the books at all. They produced a train wreck, but they'd already been greenlit for 3 seasons before the first episode aired. Most fans of the books bailed after the very first episode. If they'd have followed the books, it would have been a hit. It seems Amazon studios just likes setting money on fire. No way has any increase in prime subs from these shows covered the costs. Just no way.

Just because the show features people that are different than you, doesn't mean there is an agenda. It just might be a story that involves people who might be different than you. All they had to do with Wheel of Time was stick to the books. 1 book per season and you'd have an audience for a decade. The amount of minute detail descriptions should make it PERFECT to be made into a true tv show. Everything they could possibly need to know about the entire world is right there for the production. Instead - they hired a person that wasn't a fan, showed disdain for the source material and for the fans, and adamantly wanted to make it his own. You can tell that the set designers scoured the books. But none of the showrunners bothered to read past the first few chapters, skimmed the rest and didn't bother to even get the cliff notes of the entire story. Amazon really needs to cancel it, or hire a good showrunner, listen to Sanderson, and start over.

The books had such a huge following that they often made it through the entire first season, hoping the series would eventually return to the original plot and show some of their favorite scenes, but the show kept disappointing them until the end, when it became clear it was irredeemable. They're not going to be fooled again.

For me, and likely for a lot of other people, the moment I hear "diversity", or "inclusivity", I actually find myself anticipating that something will be an abysmal mess full of preaching, dislikeable girlbossess, male characters who act like door mats and lots of sermons about how wonderful the author's favourite ethnic group/whatever gender designation is. It actually got so bad that when I recently read a startrek novel released in the eighties, and Spok started talking about life being: "Infinite diversity in infinite combinations!" I found myself wincing even before I realised he was talking about biological species, and not whatever identity some pink haired lune has desired to call them/her/cat/zee self today! The double irony is that prior to this era, I've actually enjoyed series like torchwood, or books like Christopher Liden's falcon banner, which do have prominently gay or bisexual characters and half of the fiction I've read or the films I've seen have had female protagonists. The difference is, those were characters first, female or gay or whatever second!

See, I saw Current Year happening when Torchwood came out and decided to skip it at the time. I think the real irony is that Startrek is a really liberal show built upon an incredibly liberal world view, yet they talk about life being infinitely diverse. I guess it doesn't have to be ironic if they where implying that life being diverse was a problem that had to be eliminated through forced integration and ideological homologation, but I somehow doubt that. It's what people like that do. They preach about things that sounds good, while in reality they do everything they can do destroy those things and turn everything in to a despicable brown paste.
@darktenor4967
@darktenor4967 10 месяцев назад
@@theghosty99 I'm afraid you seem to have misunderstood my comment. I did not say startrek did not include the concept of diversity, I said that because these days the concept, even the term "diversity", has been attached to so much bad fiction; often fiction which is in its term misandrist, straight phobic, or racist towards white people, I have a pavlovian response of hatred to even hearing the term "diversity", these days. Is it possible to create a good story with say gay or none caucasian characters? Hell yes, Fyi, I'm reading Victoria Shwhab's shades of magic series at the moment, which features a large range of bisexual characters, and a major plot relevent romance between two guys. However, it also features genuinely interesting world building and complex characterisation (even if it's principle female character is a bit of a Mary sue." However, I was recommended the series by my lady, as good fiction. If however I was recommended it by someone who spoke about "the diversity", I wouldn't have read it, since at the moment "diversity" has come to be associated in my mind, and likely in the minds of a lot of other people, with implicitly bad writing. That was why I winced when I found it in a startrek novel. As many have said, if writers want people to sympathise with characters from a given minority, just write good characters from that minority, and most people will like them, because news flash, most people are not! actually racist/sexist/homophobic. most people do however hate bad writing, and when "diversity", is always associated with bad writing, people are going to start hating that too. Hope that makes sense.

Wheel of Time is such a great series of novels, Amazon could easily make it as popular as Game of Thrones. I read both series of books before they were put on screen. Both stories are excellent. The story line for game of Thrones branched out in so many different directions, it was hard to follow in reading the books. Wheel of time is a better written series, consists of 14 books and has the potential to run for 14 or more seasons (IF AMAZON WOULD JUST STICK TO THE STORY AS WRITTEN). The first season of Wheel of Time was very disappointing, but not as disappointing as Rings of Power. it can be rescued but will probably go down the same path as Rings of Power. Never really was a huge fan of Tolkein's writing style, but the stories are great. As for Peripheral, I thought the concept was good and I was looking forward to the next season to see where it went. Even still I think Amazon couldn't help themselves by injecting cultural ideologies into the story which destroys its integrity. WoT felt so half-assed, top to bottom. Casting was atrocious besides Thom Merrillin (+1) and maybe Rand, in a different setting? If there was a more progressive gender identity goal to push a narrative by Amazon then it absolutely was not needed. JUST TELL THE STORY!!! There are so many badass women characters in the story that don't require a "reimagining" to make it current to our times. There are literally millions of people who are part of those communities, who don't give a f*** about your political agendas and just want to watch good stories. If they include representation, that's nice, but it's not the be all and end all. Amazon had one of the best tv shows with The Expanse when they took it over from syfy after they cancelled it. The first 2 seasons they made were absolutely superb and i believe big hits with the audiences and the fans. Then they bought lord of the rings rights and had a massive panic about how much they had spent on it. Total buyers regret, the people in charge of deciding things like this acting like they had a literal blank cheque and not caring about the cost. The wheel of time was bought about the same time and they gave it a full 10 episode season, but as a result they started to pocket pinch on other shows, the expanse was subsequently reduced from 10 episodes to 6 for a final season (the creators wanted to take a break as the books take a 20 year break at that point, hopefully in a while they will come back for the last few seasons of books) and it shows at times from the rushed storytelling it should have had the full 10 episodes. I fully believe that they overextended themselves with rings of power, and they will not admit how much of a failure it has been because it would just look so monumentally bad a failure with how much they spent on it. The thing is, as someone who did go back to watch the end of it - the last 4 episodes are actually good and really entertaining - they will make it a multi season show just so they can say they have a full story for what it cost, and probably release it on disc to have it be a set with the peter jackson movies.

@@RoseBaggins The problem is FINDING one of those "true female fans". Oh, they definitely exist... but they are also seriously outnumbered. Even then, most of them would probably find it difficult NOT to interject more "chick flick" type activity into the story... like talking about their feelings in hallways... etc. For things like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, etc., the ratio appears to be something like 5:1... and HIGHER, in terms of male to female ratio of fans. THEN... Characters can't really be any smarter than the writers... Male geniuses outnumber female geniuses about 7:1. Now, you don't really need a genius to run a sitcom... or a rom-com... because they don't take much imagination, but when you have to "develop" some alternative world (as in fantasy), magic system, super-advanced science and technology (Sci-Fi)... it darned sure helps to have someone smart enough to do that... For example, you've got hundreds of people involved in making one movie or show. A person might watch 100 shows in a month of streaming subscription. Let's say that they pay 10$/month for the streaming service. Let's say that 1/2 of that subscription goes to the streaming company, and 1/2 goes to the people who make the shows... That would be 5$ per person... split among 100 shows... (5 cents per show) further split among the hundreds of people who made the shows. IMO, a thornier problem is... Why do those people deserve residuals in the first place? If THEY do... then EVERYONE does... or no one does. So yeah, the industry went into very stupid deals that make no sense, completely driven by fear of missing out (FOMO). Obviously somebody was clever enough to get paid for nothing just on the off chance he has a good idea while sitting on the pot and somebody smarter managed to establish this as a new model for keeping talent close. @@smb123211 Here's some extra food for thought, how many passion projects only loosely base their project on the source material? How many change up characters, swap them or fundamentally alter them? How many passion projects bloat their budget so much and yet have nothing to show for it? A passion project sticks to the source material as best as possible, does it's best to bring beloved characters to the screen and also tries to balance it's budget to get renewed and to give the fans what they want. They don't produce a mediocre faux "intellectual" show and then try to strong arm the producers into renewing by calling them bigots. Where is the passion for the material? Sounds like it's all about a pay check.

@@scribbles1424 A passion project is an emotional product vs financial one. My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Sound of Freedom were passion projects that happened to make money. Fame has proven far more important than money for most. The Peripheral differed from Gibson's book but was true to the ideas - wish it could have completed. I've told my wife a zillion times, "Why can't they just follow the book?" But "Twelve Monkeys" (a French novella) & "Magpie Murders" (Horowitz) were superb despite differing from the book. Writing and casting is more important than copying. "Battlestar Galactica" gender swapped yet is regarded as one of the best sci-fi shows ever made. These vids get annoying fast - clickbait repeating the same message ("Let's Hate Snow White") 10 times a day.
