I finally pulled the trigger and just went and bought me one Saturday and I have to admit I had to change my comment. You are absolutely right about the mic. I find myself shouting at the thing and sometimes it does not hear me at all. I find myself cutting it off and back on then for some strange reason it starts to pick me up. Very frustrating like you said over all I like it
I recently acquired my (device) and have been thoroughly testing its functionality over the past two days. I am pleased to report that it is performing exceptionally well, with no noticeable latency or performance issues.
Regarding how it looks when the screen is blank/ off, before I saw any reviews my hope was that third-party companies might start offering skins in a dozen colours, so the Hub would blend with the wall behind it more (whether wall-mounted or stand mounted). However, that was before I knew that the glass panel covered the entire front of the device. So, I wonder if Amazon should have offered the Hub in multiple colourways (white, black, light grey, magnolia/ light cream, and maybe a blue), and perhaps given people the chance to set the main background to an infinite number of colours, again to try and blend it in with its surroundings?
Yeah, I definitely agree with you. I definitely feel Amazon rushed to release this device. I'm sure they will fix loads of problems and make a more wall friendly device nex gen. I think wireless power will make devices like this so awesome! Then you don't have to deal with an ugly cable.
It's literally what GH home hubs have had for years. Yes, it has POE, but really, how many home users use it? Plus, stand the extra $30??? Plus the cost, ouch
Excellent review! I just got the unit myself and I'm extremely disappointed in it. For one thing it is extremely underpowered. The lagginess is insufferable. How in the hell was Amazon okay with this? they just had to cheapen out and put in a cheapass processor in a 180 dollar product! The UI needs a lot of work as well! It is not very user friendly or eve optimized for quick actions. Both points you have expertly pointed out in your video. Thank you.
Hey, thanks for your feedback! Yes, I think this was a rush job. They took forever to release it once they announced it, so I was suspicious from the get-go.
I assume you have turned on whisper mode. Whisper works fine on mine. I have mine set to show the clock unless I manualy wake it, & it works fine all day. But when room gets dark (sunset) the display turns off. If I turn on lights it comes back on, lights off, display shuts off again. Any ideas?
What? Lol, you use "echo" as your wake word? I go out of my way to not say the wake word Alexa. So now I'll have to not say echo for future reviews. Thanks for the heads up. 😁
When was the last time you experienced amazon updating something ? Apart from adding advertising to prime paying members , I dont recall any socalled updates.
Updates to software and hardware. Those updates I'm talking about. But I totally get what you are saying. Amazon is definitely out to make a profit now a days. Feel like the golden days are coming to an end.
@@AtHomewithLucasAmazon has always been out to make a profit. Like how McDonalds is a real estate company and not a food company, Amazon is an Advertising company, not a Tech company.
It's very easy. Put the device in paring mode (each device is different, so read instructions) then ask Alexa "Alexa find new device" should take a few seconds to a minute then she will say found new device. Or you can use the Alexa app to add a new device.
@@AtHomewithLucas Yes I have it wall mounted but it’s running the app fully kiosk browser. I made a custom dashboard for entire house and no I don’t use show mode but I can still yell Alexa commands at it, best of both worlds
@@AtHomewithLucas 8 neodymium magnets (32mm x 2mm), 4 on the wall and 4 on the tablet so is actually removable! Made a hole in the wall to run long usb cable through
Wow! You did what I wanted to do years ago (but I was renting). I might try that with my Fire Tab now 😁💯 This all makes me want wireless devices so bad. I can't imagine it being too long, seeing as they have wireless powered lamps now!
Yeah I know about that. What I was saying is it often doesn't hear me. Like most echos in my house lol not sure is they are annoyed with me or what haha 😅
Hi. Thanks helpful video. Have copied your poe solution, which works well. However, even though Internet is available via poe the device uses WiFi! Any solutions here pls?
😅 my dude! You have nothing positive to say about this device and that’s what troubles me because it is clear, especially by the name of the subject of this video that you are 100% biased yet you have all of the devices in your home by Echo, if you had anything positive to say it was clearly omitted purposefully. Next time you want to give a review on something especially at full review? mention some positive things. #FOH.
Well, I definitely touched on positive things and also gave it a high star rating. So, it sounds to me like the video wasn't watched all the way through.
