@@Rickmakes yes I use my Fire tv 2nd gen mostly for watch bluray digital movies From 30-50 gb size in 4k HDR on Stremio/Plex 📺🎥 that's why I need 1gp port 😅

100GB Ultra HD Blue-Ray tops out at a 128Mbps bitrate. Wouldn’t a few hundred Mbps via Gigabit to USB-2 adapter be more than sufficient for this extreme case, or does bitrate required increase when you rip the disc? I’m sure it would if you ripped it to h.264, cut I would think the bitrate could actually decrease for similar picture quality if you encode in AV1, for example. Please correct me, as this isn’t my expertise.

Nice test. For me, 100Mbps is more than enough for streaming 4K content, since the cube can only play/process one stream at a time. WiFi may be faster, but is less reliable and prone to interference. I see no advantage to spend extra on 1Gbps connectivity. I always try to hard wire my devices whenever possible and this is one of the reasons I spent the extra for the cube over the sticks. I use a small switch in my AV cabinet to hook up my devices (TV, cube, Onkyo AVR, etc.) and home run it back to my main home switch/router.

I have a similar setup with a switch behind my entertainment console. I think I have three things connected to it. That is three fewer things on my crowded wifi.

It didn’t take me long to realise that my cube was much faster via WiFi than Ethernet. My Ethernet was 96mg whereas my WiFi was 560mb. That is a big difference.

thankyou for the video, I stream my own content with plex and kodi that is very high bitrate and cannot stream smoothly over wifi and and 10/100 lan is slower still, when amazon came out with the new generation cube I was ready to buy it on the spot untill I learned it only had 10/100 ethernet but using a usb adapter in the way you have shown here I should have no issues.

@@Ipeacocks I did try it but it still didn't work right, the issue wasn't so much that the usb nic wasn't fast enough to keep up, the issue seems to be that most usb 3.0 nic's dont like to run at usb 2.0 and I get dropped packets enough to cause me issues on the cube, I have since re-encoded my collection to h265 with a lower bitrate so most now stream no issues over the built in ethernet and for everything else I use a lower bitrate with plex encoding while not perfect its good enough for how I use mine.

I purchased the cube, I have a Ethernet adapter usb c, can I use a usb c female to usb a male 3.1 adapter or does the adapter have to be usb a 2.0??

Shouldn't hurt to try it. I'm guessing it will work so long as the ethernet chipset in the adapter is compatible. I don't think the USB adapter would cause a problem.

@@user-lm7ii4ri6n Although the wifi name may have all three streams in it, allowing for the device to pick the best stream, you can also setup individual streams in the router. For instance, i created a 2.4G stream only for my smart home since it was having issues with the mixed stream and then a 2.4/5/6 sream for everything else. I can create a 6G only stream if I needed to as well. This can be acheived with most routers. I use Ubiquiti so there is a lot of customization you can do there for wifi.

Its connetet but slow, im using a German Test by Telekom. The Speed of my Internet is😊 normaly by 800mbit/s but with the Cube im Not able to come over a Speed of 250mbit/s...

Apologies in advance as I am just a ordinary non-tech user of Firesticks. I have the 4K Max Firestick and with wifi connection I am getting 170mbps, I was planning on buying the 3rd gen cube as I assumed it would a) give me a much more consistent mbps (which it would as its wired) and b) a much faster mbps, but that’s not the case??? I that because its max speed is 100mbps? Thanks all

That is correct, the max ethernet speed is 100Mbps. The 100Mbps ethernet would likely get you very close to 100Mbps speed whereas wifi can vary depending on interference and other factors.

Wifi depends on your router to deliver a stable experience. If you have multiple wifi devices on your network (i.e. smartphones, laptops, echos, etc...), they all limit the bandwidth. 100Mbps ethernet delivers exactly that, ALL the time. Those 100Mbps should be good for just about everything you do over this connection. Streaming services deliver up to 25Mb/s at the most) for 4K HDR content.

I have fire TV cube gen 3, I have 250mb internet, and can get this on Wifi, but not stable, on ethernet and can get 96mbps. I tried the 1 Gb usb ethernet adaptor and it went to 36 mbps. any ideas why? Thanks

The most reliable way would be to set up a separate SSID with only 6GHz enabled. If you have a single SSID serving up 2.4, 5 and 6, it might switch back and forth.

Bought the “current” amazon basic 10/100/1000 1 gig ethernet to 3usb and it doesn’t improve at all. The new one looks a little different maybe they changed the chipset? Someone help me please

@@PaceyPimp Wireless isn't better. They both have their pros and cons. Wireless can be faster but often times wifi networks can be congested. Ethernet tends to be more reliable. Wifi or ethernet are capable of streaming 4k content.

@@PaceyPimp That can give you faster network speed but the regular ethernet at around 100Mbps is 4 times faster than required to stream 4K video from most streaming services.
