What does someone who actually reads think about the Kindle Oasis? This is a review by someone who is not a tech person but an actual reader. This review will also do a side by side comparison between the Amazon Kindle Oasis and the Amazon Fire 10.1 inch. This review will cover tips and tricks of the Amazon Oasis as well as what it can and can not do. It also covers the additional equipment that is required if you want to listen to audiobooks.

Ground rules for my channel: On my RU-vid channel, I have zero tolerance for disrespect. The book community is one of the nicest, kindest, most open communities possible. Personally, I really enjoy finding people who read the same book that I read and feel the complete opposite of how I feel (maybe I missed something, maybe the other side has a valid point, maybe I can learn something). However, I am respectful. I still like people's videos that I disagree with. But anyone who is personally attacking another person, I'm out. I ban those folks from my channel. Hate has no home on my channel. (Examples of personal attacks: You are an inattentive reader, you have no imagination, you don't know how to think. This list is not all inclusive.)

I feel like some very simple research or even scrolling down to the reviews would’ve saved you $300. I really enjoy mine because I switched the page turn buttons to fit my needs and took time to understand that it’s a dedicated reader and log off from internet for a while. I definitely just say return it and switch to a fire. That’s what I did, just the opposite way.

There is a huge difference between seeing some random specs which mean almost nothing to me and seeing the devices and comparing them side by side. I was in a unique position where I purchased both devices at the same time. It was not unreasonable to expect that the top-of-the-line reader would be able to play audiobooks and allow you to view eBooks at the same time. It is a dedicated reader! It only does GoodReads, eBooks, and Audible. It should have been able to do eBooks and Audible at the same time. Amazon does not state clearly on the Oasis that it does not support immersion reading in the specs box. It is buried in a many paragraph description, and it is still not clear that it will not do both Audible and eBooks at the same time - it only mentions that it won't highlight the words as the book is being read. I was just trying to listen to Audible while I had my eBook on the Kindle, and it would not work. I have 20 ARC's that are waiting to be read so the Oasis is a non-starter for me.

I have a Kindle Voyage. In my opinion, the E-Readers are great for reading books.

I love my Oasis but then I’m not a fan of audiobooks, I don’t tend to retain the information lol.

You could have watched reviews or researched and that would have solved your problem. I hate reading io the fire. Very whiny review.

I'm so sorry you wasted your money on that. I'm really happy with my Kindle Paperwhite; it's so light and small and easy to read. Peace!

I've heard good things about the Paperwhite, but it also does not support immersion reading. I have Sara (which is my version of Barney, the only dinosaur I could think of in Land Before Time), and that seems to be working out much better! Have a great week!

I agree about the speaker thing. However, if do an audiobook and read on my smartphone the reader scrolls as the words are read. An E-Reader does not have the necessary screen refresh rate.

Totally Agree! The oasis is a rip off when the paperwhite is cheaper and does almost all the same things.

People can spend their money however they want, but I was so disappointed that I wanted to provide enough facts to allow consumers to make an informed purchasing decision because I greatly regretted The Oasis. When I called to return, the representative did everything I told him not to (that I could not drive some place to drop it off and I wanted a refund to my credit card). He set me up to drive to UPS and to give me an Amazon credit. Called again and UPS didn't bother picking up my package - they just dropped off labels at my house despite the package sitting out. Called again and the rep pretended they couldn't hear me. Called again and was told to repackage my return into 2 boxes and UPS would pick up tomorrow. Overall, it took almost 2 hours on the phone to return this. Extremely displeased.

Thank you for your review. I don't care for amazon as a business, but I appreciate the review on the e-reader. I may consider an e-reader in the future and now I know oasis is absolute garbage for my wants. I stopped trusting amazon when they kept blocking an honest book review I bought from them and then they threatened to kick me off. No worries. I have boycotted them ever since.

Glad it was helpful! It took almost 2 hours on the phone and 4 phone calls to finally return this. I even asked about concierge level support similar to American Express, and they have nothing.
