Amazonius was recently split from Tapinauchenius (hence why the orange tree spider is no longer T. gigas but A. germani), and to my mind, this looks like a locale of T. plumipes that someone collected from the Caqueta region of Colombia and misidentified as the wrong genus. Look at some photos of adult T. plumipes and see what you think. Either way, you are correct about its arboreal tendencies. Beautiful spider.
@gunnartribelhorn
@gunnartribelhorn 3 дня назад
*sorry, this likely wouldn't be plumipes as it's only been collected from French Guiana, but I still think it may be a closely related Tapinauchenius.

Hey Dave! I’m in the same boat as you in the sense that I’ve never even heard of this species before. Granted, Canada isn’t nearly where the UK is when it comes to tarantulas/inverts. It’s really quite a lame country in that respect. Great video though, Dave! Hopefully we’ll hit the nail on the head! I’m happy to hear about the Q&A video again! I’m very much looking forward to it and hope you do it soon!! I already put 4 questions for the Q&A on the last video but…ah what the heck! I’ll throw in two more. -Does Dave have an individual favourite in the Beastie Room? Camera Lady can answer as well! -What did Dave expect when he started the channel? Did he expect what it is today and how quickly it has reached this point? See you on Monday guys! Have a good weekend. -Noah.

Yeah I was going to say that, I too have an A. germani that was previously known as Pseudoclamoris gigas and before that a Tapinauchenius I think! They can't make up their mind :P But yes all arboreal. Dave's lady looks a lot like my purple tree spider Tapinauchenius violaceous actually with the bronzey/shimmery bum (the purple on mine can only be seen with a flash).

It is definitely arboreal, since they were only seperated from Tapinauchenius in 2022 (ref: Taxonomic revision and cladistic analysis of the tarantula genera Tapinauchenius Ausserer, 1871, Psalmopoeus Pocock, 1985, and Amazonius n. gen. (Theraphosidae, Psalmopoeinae), Zootaxa 5101). There does not appear to be any A. caqueta, however, so potentially this could be A. germani instead. Edit: note also the width of the scopulae = arboreal

Question: Whats the difference between New world and Old World Spiders.
@irinafischer3211
@irinafischer3211 3 дня назад
try google, there is plenty info there :) in short: old world = medically significant venom, no urticating hairs, generally quite fast and said to be quite defensive. New World = a lot milder venom, urticating hairs (almost all), many species are said to be more beginner friendly, as they are slower, less defensive. That being said, there are always exciptions on species and specimen level :D

Some folks online say that the Amazonius sp. caqueta used to be known in the hobby as Tapinauchenius sp. Caribean Diamond or sp. Union Island. Perhaps this helps? Oh, and they also say that these tarantulas are stupidly fast, haha.

I also don't see much on these guys. The only thing i see with that exact scientific name is one with the given common name of Caqueta tree spider so i would guess it's arboreal? Other than that, on Arachnoboards i found mention of Amazonius genus in general being recently reclassified from Tapinauchenius and that their care requirements are similar to that of most Psalmopeus species. Nothing i can confirm on any personal experience, unfortunately, but maybe will give some directions to look in for better info on your beautiful new girl

For a Q&A video… If tarantulas get their hydration from their food and drinking water, then why are some tarantulas said to require a higher humidity environment? What would the reason be? Are their book lungs different than other tarantulas? Do they need humid air to breathe properly?

I have no experience with this species but I can tell you without even trying to look it up that is going to be an arboreal spider. Looks like every other Amazonius and Tapinauchenius I've kept, with the signature abdomen dimples. And I've been trying for a while to find an example of any genus that contains both arboreal and fossorial species. Can't think of a single one, maybe you can? I guess Maybe you could say Cyriopagopus... but that genus is such a bird's nest you never know if your spider is going to be called a Haplopelma, Cyrio, Lampropelma, or Omothymus on any given week... so I may have just answered my own question typing this post LOL My original opinion that this is an arboreal spider remains the same
