A big elephant bull joins a herd that was peacefully feeding in the Amboseli swamps and checks each elephant cow for receptiveness. The elephant bull had obviously picked up the pheromones of a cow that was ready to reproduce but as he moved through the herd his scent tests came up negative even for the cows that released urine for him to test.
Elephant bulls are usually either solitary or in small batchelor groups only oining the herds to reproduce, but this herd had a couple of big bulls hanging around so although none of the elephant cows were receptive at this point it looks certain that one is close to being ready (most likely the one providing the urine sample).
