Thomas was a finer composer than his reputation would suggest. I've seen his Hamlet once but as usual the ballet was cut. Bonynge's complete recording of the opera with Sutherland from the 1980s heavily edits the ballet so I think this version is more complete. This has a nice energy to it. Many thanks for posting.
Thanks; I love the music on your site. It's too bad the ballet scenes get cut on most opera productions these days; but I know the shows already run long, and it's an extra expense. I hadn't heard this in a LONG time. Back when I was a kid, some of it showed up in ballet classes or was used for old-fashioned competitive figure skating programs. I know it's mostly out of style now, but there's a lot of fun music there .sort of lost.
