So this happened on Thanksgiving..our news anchor mentioned not to eat too much ambrosia salad and I say to my husband ugh.. who eats that mess and my husband says I actually like Ambrosia Salad..so here I am.. and thanks for the recipe ..gotta keep my man happy!
My big brother is a widower and he talks about how his wife used to make ambrosia for him… This sounds like the perfect recipe to make for him, just to make him smile. Thanks for posting!
@@jujubee7351 no, not yet… Ever since his wife passed away, we make so many other wonderful desserts. I need to put this one on our list. he has a new love now, but I haven’t talk to her about it yet… it might be a nice surprise. Thank you so much.
My Mother loves loves loves this salad her birthday is Tuesday 72 years young! She used to always buy this or a coworker would make it for her and she hates sour cream so I’m happy you said you don’t even taste it I didn’t even know it had sour cream minute thanks for the recipe I will be making this tomorrow
Hi Caren. I have been searching all morning for different ambrosia salad recipes. And yours was the best! Not only did you give the recipe but the tutorial provided a lot of information. Thank you so much! And thank your stepson for me as well for asking you to make this great dish. This will be a great hit this Thanksgiving. Stay blessed.
LOL....that reminded me of my mother.....she had to have ALL the things....sometimes to the excess. I have a queso recipe (video on my recipe playlist), that she would always doctor up and I would tell her ...."NO NO NO.....less is more". I love my queso exactly as the recipe goes and she would drive me crazy with it...haha. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! Caren
I had this for the first time this Thanksgiving and I gotta say it was pretty good. Ours was made with Sugar Free Canned Fruit - Pineapple & Mandarin Oranges; Greek Yogurt, Shredded Coconut & Mini Marshmallows; I put chopped walnuts in the doggy bag portion I served for me. (S/F Fruit was used cause my son is a diabetic). Keeper dish!
This is it! I wanted to make this salad for my brother but every recipe used everything but the Cool Whip and I think that is a must when making ambrosia salad. So thank you so much for this awesome recipe! It took me a while finding you.
I used to nanny for a lady who became pregnant with her 2nd child....I found an online thread about what food to bring mom's postpartum and I saw fresh fruit mentioned several times. Although this fruit isn't all fresh it seemed like a good idea. her family loved it! now I'm making it for a dear friend who is due in a couple months :)
The cool whip is straight from the container....it came frozen from store but I set in refrigerator overnight to thaw. It is already in whipped topping form in the container.
When I make these recipes that my mom or grandmother made, it brings back such wonderful memories. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Merry Christmas!! Caren
This is a great recipe but I would suggest emphasizing the order that the ingredients are placed in the bowl. After mixing the cool whip and sour cream until it's smooth, put the nuts and first because they're the densest ingredient, THEN fold in the coconut, followed by the marshmallows. Once that's nicely mixed fold in the grapes. Finally add the canned fruits as they are super soft and likely to get mushy. Obviously this salad is going to mix and bleed regardless but I think the less sloppy it is the better. I personally like it a lil more chunky 😊
Love this salad. I make a couple variations to it. I put in instant pistachio pudding, a block of cream cheese, and I use the colorful mini marshmallows. We call it "Grinch Pudding".
I'm so hungry! I would just eat the whipped topping to begin with and use the fruit as a dip. Do you think we could put it all in a Piping Bag and just squirt it in our mouths like a can of whipped cream?
I'm not sure why there is sour cream, but I just follow the recipe that I have. I do like that it helps it not be too sweet and it just coats everything nicely. Thanks for watching and commenting!! Caren
My laptop had no sound so I just went along with you. This was my very 1st attempt at making this salad. So, I do not know if you rinsed all the fruits that were in any type of syrup; I did to get rid of unnecessary sugars. I also used unsweetened coconut. I added about 1/2 cup extra grapes, mini marshmallows, walnuts vs. pecans (I had no pecans), and I used "Lite" sour cream. I loved it, and so did my rehab team at work. Thank you for the inspiration.
I didn't rinse the canned fruits. I just let them drain pretty well to keep them from being too wet when I mixed them together. Your version sounds pretty great. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!
I am sure it would taste fine without it. If you like yogurt, maybe add a little of that or just more whipped cream. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! Caren
Huh never seen this way. Usually I just use coolwhip and very cheery mixed fruit. It was a tip my uncle got from a store years ago cause my mom liked it alot. Sometimes add bannana and rice.
I think it would be just fine if you left the sour cream out. But if you want it creamier, you could substitute it with plain greek yogurt. Thanks for watching and commenting! Caren
Why don’t you use the term “SON”?…. My mom always referred to us as her Stepkids.. it always sounded and felt degrading … ( notice I said Mom)… food for thought🌸🌼🌺
