In 1980, Warner Bros. released One Eighty, a smash LP that produced two of the year's biggest hits, "You're the Only Woman", reaching number thirteen, and "Biggest Part of Me", which reached number three. This album featured the two new members, Lewis & Jones, although Lewis had contributed keyboard work on the Life Beyond LA album. They dedicated one of their songs to Sandie Clark, a mysterious woman as yet unknown.

What made Ambrosia and Player so great , they wasn't trying to sound Black, they have a flavor of R&B of their own and it was so good.

Hall and Oates too. Not many white singers/groups could authentically play R&B, although for most of these artists writing soulful songs was the exception, not the norm.

Why can't we have musicians like this anymore? David Pack is maybe the most underrated artist of his time, he was / is a genius.

Because EVERYONE HAS AN ATTITUDE. What we have are entitled recording artists raised on Madonna. There is a major lack of heart & sentimentality in popular music. There is nothing like the 70;'s & early 80's.
@petuniasevan
@petuniasevan 2 месяца назад
@@michaelglenn367 Not just that. Autotune for talentless pretty boys and girls, packaged up by a soulless recording industry. The same chord progression over and over. Derivative music, often blatantly so. Most artists these days with even a modicum of talent are trying hard to be noticed online; there is no place for most of them in the 'business'. If you've ever visited Rick Beato's channel, you will get a good rundown on what is causing today's popular music to lack all originality.

In 2013, I went to a fundraiser in a banquet room in a famous, old downtown Los Angeles hotel. After about an hour of the fundraiser, this middle aged blonde guy who had been sitting directly behind me at a different table was asked to come up and perform for the audience. His entire table got up and went to the dais and started playing You're the Only Woman-- it was David Pack and his band-- I was gobsmacked. I did not recognise him behind me (good thing for him!). They proceeded to play all of these hits. I was almost in tears, the sound and voice were incredible. I got to meet him and tell him how much his music had meant to me for the last 35+ years. He was wonderful and very grateful.

He was such a genuinely nice guy and very friendly with all of us before during and after the show. Nice mellow tune. In 1998-99 I had a job at a store that I couldn't stand, but this song used to play a lot over the store's radio and it always put me in a good mood to hear it. A big part of my job at that place was sweeping the store, so I spent many hours following a broom around aimlessly and listening to music like this playing in the background.

I was watching life Timelife and their specials about having a set of 70's classics for a certain price, and as they played 30 second samples I remembered all that great music that I had forgotten. Thanks Timelife for reminding the great music of the 70's. you brought me here.

My South African, brother--welcome to the world as we know it--we're all looking for a woman who understands this kind of music. I have my fingers crossed, and I truly hope you find her. Good luck, my brother, I think you deserve to find her, and I truly hope that you do.

That organ is messing with my mind! This song will make you cry ...if you let go and let it take you back there (to that particular time in your life). I have so many fond memories. It's a painfully joyous experience. I wouldn't trade those memories for the world. People WAKE UP! This kind of music will never BE again. I'm not a pessimist. I'm a realist. I'm also a musician and a music lover. When I say 'it will never be again,' I don't mean there will not be talented artists. I mean they (the proverbial 'powers-that-be' ...we'll call them "THEY") have gone in another direction. They will not publish and promote this type of QUALITY music anymore. It will not be played over the public airwaves again (I'm speaking about "NEW" quality artists; not the old school artists). They have an agenda, and they are shoving it down our throats. New "mainstream" artists do not play instruments. They do not know how to perfect their craft, vocally. They are musicians in 'title' only. They don't know anything about music. They cannot take you on an artistic journey with any of their [so-called] compositions. Cherish the quality artists we had in the 70s, 80s, a little of the 90s. You will never see the likes of again in mainstream music. Now ask yourself .... why do "THEY" want it this way.

Look up "Hammond B3". It was an amazing instrument that produced a pure sound...

Wow I agree with every word you said. I could have not said it any better, great comments and so true. Glad to see there are real music lovers like yourself you truly can sit back and enjoy such great work by these artists. Peace and Love.

Rick Kernell Back when I was singing in a church choir, our choir director played a Hammond organ. I've always been in love with the sound of this instrument. Wish I would've taken the time to learn to play it myself. This guy in Ambrosia really gets off in his solo. That's one of the best parts of the song to me.

Larry Diggs Nothing is easier to love than great music. These guys were laying it down. And that organ solo!!! That was the highlight of the song to me.

Truly great music and the artists just knew how to make great music. The so called artists today just don't put and soul and passion in their music.

+Milo MacTavish Perhaps you're right. However, I did read an interesting statistic sometime back. It indicated that approximately 40% of downloaded music was from the '70s and '80s.

I was 13 when this came out. Did not care for it back then as I was into hard rock ie; Aerosmith, Sabbath, Rush etc. But this music was everywhere, Ambrosia, Air Supply... Now here I am, at 49 years old and have an appreciation for a lot of those easy listening bands /songs of the 70's and early 80's! So smooth...Still dig the heavy stuff of those years too!
