Thank you so much this was incredibly helpful! I genuinely learned more about the application process from this 12 minute video than from meeting with my pre-med advisors for the past two years.
Thank you for posting this!! I did not know if you had to have your MCAT score before submitting the application. I was scared that I would have to wait another cycle.
Since you can add more schools later on, when do you actually pay for the schools that you apply to? I have FAP, so I'd like to know if I would need to add all the schools at once or not. Thank you!
There is an overall fee and then a fee per school. You don't pay for schools until you officially add them, but I am not too familiar with FAP so there might be different requirements for that program
Hi, Im a canadian (quebec) candidate who wants to apply to US med schools for fall 2021. I was wondering if there is any reason not to apply to 15 US schools rather than 8. If AMCAS is centralized does it matter how many schools i put on my application? Will I be flooded with secondary application work? Im confused because I was advised not to apply to too many schools. GPA is above 3.8 so my options are open.
Is it realistically possible to get accepted to a medical school or high IQ university such as Yale with a ged? Will I be looked at differently and internship thrown out?
Hi, thanks for the video-it’s very helpful. I had a question about letters of recommendation. When do you “send” those out to schools? Are they sent in for your primary application? Or do schools request them during secondary applications? Or is it kinda variable?
The letters all go through AMCAS (typically), so it goes along with your primary application. That being said, you do not have to have the letters in at the time you submit the primary since you can add them and send them to schools later in the cycle. If possible, I would recommend having them submitted to AMCAS by the time you submit your secondary applications so they don't cause any delay.
Hi- If one has taken classes in a community college when in high school do that person need to add that in amcas application? If yes, then only the credits transferred?
You'll need to list all of the college classes you've taken at the community college and send in a transcript from that school (so not just the ones that were transferred)
Thx for the overview!! I’m really conflicted on whether to take the MCAT in April or late May...how detrimental do you think it would be to submit the application in early June but not have your MCAT score till late June? I’m just not sure if having that extra month during the summer to study would be that helpful or not (since I’m taking classes in the spring).
I think that if you will have your application submitted by early June regardless, it's a much better option to take it in late May and get your score back in late June. That gives you the extra month to study while you aren't in school (which I found super valuable). Then once you get your score back you can adjust your school list accordingly!
Hello Michael! ... Listen, we no longer are living in the dark ages where dissecting human corpses is having to get done in secret! If you absolutely enjoyed biology, chemistry, arithmetic (geometry, algebra, etc.), and you were able to excel tremendously in these subjects, let me introduce you to the real practice/pursuit of medicine. First, you want to work at the morgue where you can get up close to human corpses under the watchful eye of a teacher/superior and determine the cause of death so that your reports can be given over to the detectives of the crime scene. Then, you want to work as an ambulance driver so that you can save lives that are in need of critical treatment at the time of injury, so that you and your co-worker can drive the patient(s) to the hospital. Then, you want to work in the Emergency Room of a Hospital where you will be exposed to patients -from mild to severe- and you will see just how each patient gets cured from their miserable ailment(s). And then, after some time in the E.R., you'll want to join the red-cross so that you can get some in depth medical exposure and so that you can figure out what branch of medicine most intrigues you. SO THAT BY THE TIME YOU FINISH THIS REAL LIFE MEDICAL SCIENCE, YOU WILL BE A DOCTOR THAT CAN PERFORM ANY AND MOSTLY ALL HUMAN BIOLOGICAL PROCEDURES. Plus, you are a service to the community from day one & you're not getting yourself in any high dollar debts!
How many hours would you recommend me shadow? I’ll begin shadowing in the summer, but by their rule, I’m only limited to 60 hours or so. Would that be enough? Or should I do more?
I would probably try to get more than that unless you have a ton of experience with paid or volunteer work in a clinical setting. Shadowing is mostly for you so you are sure you want to be a doctor, so I would recommend having more than one experience in more than one specialty!
Can you make a video about your upbringing? How did you grow up so intelligent and organized? I want to know how to raise my daughter to be this smart and organized.
Thanks, this video Helped a lot! But I was wondering, Since the AMCAS requires you to list all/ any classes taken at all colleges, does AMCAS count GPA from the other colleges towards your total college GPA? I've taken an EMT class at a community college and didn't get a great grade. Will this count toward my overall college GPA even though my credits never transferred?
