The thermal camera sure does make short work of diagnosis. I do electronics as a hobby and you have definitely demonstrated the value of thermal imaging very well. Maybe I'll be able to justify a thermal camera for myself soon. PS: Thanks for periodically mentioning the amount of heat you need to use with these high layer count boards. Very helpful for finding a starting point with the temp when trying to remove a faulty component.

I love that Infineon Technologies actually has public datasheets for this chip and there is stock at at least one of the big suppliers. Normally you get ghosted by some off the wall and down the beaten path company that doesn't supply datasheets to the public and no big supplier stocks their chips.

Even though I don't subscribe to your channel I absolutely love it!! you are so informative and knowledgeable about the trade I just can't wait to see the next one.

Have been looking to upgrade to a better video card , it’s interesting to see a lot of repairs on Nvidia cards and not a lot on Amd , though it could be that they aren’t the go to card for system upgrades.
@twizz420
@twizz420 Год назад
Exactly, it's because more people buy Nvidia cards, and people who buy Nvidia cards tend not to know what they're doing with computer hardware as much as AMD users. So they end up destroying them with liquid metal or whatever. It's the same reason you see a ton of Asus laptops on here getting repaired. It's not because they're poorly made, it's because everyone and their grandmother has one. Most people also think AMD is worse for some reason... The 6950XT is actually as good as (in some cases a little better than) the 3090 Ti... And AMD is a lot cheaper, too.
@brunocracco2949
@brunocracco2949 Год назад
Maybe a market share effect more than a reliability difference ? Nvidia is 80% of the GPU Market... 4 times more faulty Nvidia cards than AMD, given the same base reliability.

QUESTION: Why does it matter "where" you inject the voltage? If there is a short circuit, wouldn't any point flow the voltage to the "bad part" Just curious. Thanks.
@Claymore729
@Claymore729 Год назад
Why would you go inject it somewhere else? If you found the short by checking at the drain, you know the short is there. If you go inject somewhere else, you might not land on the right circuit.
@aseelbirdsCG125

Always inject volt throughout supply not from charger or adapter's And supply will be automatically shut down and control volt
@davidefogagnolo

well you don't want to inject into a sensing line or into a small trace, you want to inject into the main rail bus

How do people keep spilling liquid on their video cards ... CPU case not a thing? Even if you fix this stuff, the components will just oxidize/corrode from the PCB within months anyways.

7:48 These are the ones that make me wonder about bridges under the chip. That little pad around the 1 o'clock position, and the larger pad at 3 o'clock. Neither appear to connect to the pins, or other hidden pads. It must at least be possible for it to happen, so I'm curious what could cause it, and if they are all ground or no connection or anything else.

AMD reference board designs are typically overbuilt. Usually the best version to go with when buying used, as long as the PO didn't molest it with a screwdriver, they'll function for the long haul.

Sending my Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GAMING OC 12G back for RMA for the 2nd time. Bought it on 11/16/21 for $1400, and it died 3 months later playing Valheim (of all games), now it died 12/29/22, playing Valheim again. The first RMA, the PC would boot, but had no HDMI signal, they repaired it, and it worked for almost a year with no issues. This time, the PC wont boot if the GPU is plugged in. This card has two sockets for power, the left most socket gives it power, and the right gives it light. The lights work, but if you plug in the PCI-E cable into the power socket, the PC won't boot. I already cleared CMOS, and put the BIOS back to a working default, other GPU's boot the PC fine. I think there's been a short circuit on the power socket or something...I have a Seasonic GX-1000 watt PSU, so that really shouldn't be an issue.

To inyect voltage in a coil, you should measure ohms first so, coil does not suffer. You inyect then in the lower side of the coil (ohms).

@@HazeAnderson that says about your Knowledge in electrónic, coil divide the line so, the short its in one side of it. When you inyect voltage to the shorted side, the current will not pass by the coil. If you inyect in the not shorted side of the coil, then the current will pass true the coil and could cause to damage it.

I thought it was a bit dangerous to power-up the graphics card with no heat sink. But you are the expert!
@gucky4717
@gucky4717 Год назад
First of all there is almost no load when you start a GPU and there are temperature limits which will throttle the card down, but only up to a point. Even an idle 4090 does not take more then 15W.
