AMD is Sandbagging - RDNA 5 Specs & Release Date
A recent interview with AMD showed that they will be deprioritizing flagship GPUs and focusing on market share as well as unifying their architecture into something called UDNA. However its possible that this strategy may only be temporary as leaks are suggesting that RDNA 5 may be the largest leap in GPU history thanks to the new chiplet design and could be a Ryzen moment for Radeon leading to MUCH better prices and performance.

@desmasic
@desmasic 12 дней назад
They probably meant "3x faster than anything AMD can dream of having", which is technically true. At the moment, nVidia will overcharge as much as possible, they don't care anymore. Meanwhile, AMD overcharges thinking it's nVidia while not having any card coming close to what nVidia's overpriced hardware does. This is why most people don't buy AMD.

And so both uses upscalers and its terrible too because they use downscaling your resolution to make more frames and one has latency problems and while the other has stability issues but one thing or 2 things that both are sharing in common is that they use it in the high end segment instead of the low end segment where this thing is needed the most and also for low power devices such as the gaming handhelds and when gpus are running out of vram this upscalers are essentially obsolete.

I run a 7900XTX myself, but this happens almost every generation, AMD hype comes out, people speculate and ultimately, everyone is disappointed. Nvidia retains the crown or gets it back pretty quick. Vega64 hype anyone? I really don't think AMD NEEDS a super high end either. What I would really like to have is a Ray Accelerator card that is vendor agnostic. Kinda like the old Aegis PhysX add in cards. I'd pay 200-350$ for a second card that was dedicated to ray tracing.

From the perspective of sheeple you need to have a halo product. Top down selling is a proven strategy, and that is why Nvidia will always do whatever they can to have the top performance crown. The common consumer has zero ability or desire to understand or research anything, so they will always chose whatever the "best" is. I know people who have worked in IT for 25 years and who are casual PC gamers who still to this day barely acknowledge that AMD even makes GPU's. You can go to a Microcenter and hang out in the GPU section when its busy and just listen to any random customer talking to the sales guy and hear the exact same. It has been this way since 3dfx died and the Geforce 256 came out.

Given the minimal improvements from the 6000 to 7000 generation its entirely possible that AMD gets larger than average gains, Nvidia did something very similar going from the GTX 980 to the 1080 where there were design improvements that yielded huge gains over a single generation. AMD also admitted they could have made a more powerful flagship, either by higher power consumption or larger GPU Die. THAT SAID RDNA 3 was the advent of the MCM (multi-chip) design that was supposed to deliver on similar/better performance at much lower costs but that never actually manifested for us consumers (especially the price part). None of the actual confirmed changes released up to this point indicate huge performance gains for RNDA 4 so unless pricing comes way, way down there is zero indication AMD would be able to deliver a 2x increase let alone what is projected here for Raw performance. Price is what is going to matter for them over the next 2 years for AMD because let me tell you no one is going to want to pay $500 for a RX 8800 XT, that will need to be a $350-$400 GPU if they want to get people excited again.

This doesn't make sense to me, for at least a couple reasons: 1. WHY would AMD essentially tell the high end buyer "We won't be making cards for you", essentially leaving those buyers to go to Nvidia, RIGHT before releasing a high end GPU themselves. Sounds like a monumentally dumb move. As AMD themselves have said, the top end is a small slice of the market, so why on earth would they tell that limited number of customers to go away before their own release? and 2. It seems to me much more like lately AMD has been OVER-hyping their products, even going to dishonest lengths to portray their stuff as better than they actually are. Remember when they released graphs saying their product is just as good as a much more expensive competing product, only to forget to mention that those results were limited by a completely different component in the test system? It doesn't look like AMD to underrepresent products, at least at the moment.

I would call it “doom and gloom” to believe that AMD is cutting out high end products. That’s just a change in priorities. Instead of focusing on performance, they focus on value. I think it’s good when companies go through cycles of priorities like this. Some generations improve value, some improve performance, or hell even improving the power usage for the same performance.

These cards would be nice for the top 1% but need to really shake the market. If they released a 7900 xtx class performance card for 500 dollars 6 months ago they would've kicked ass the problem is they are going to wait for Nvidia to release their next cards. Then they are going to release a card just under Nvidia's 5080 for a hundred dollars less. They need to do what their CPU division did with Ryzen.

Buy Rdna 5 or wait for Vega?

Suspect that RDNA5 has been rebranded as UDNA 5 and getting worked more as some sort of CDNA/RDNA unification all along more than likely. I think as you add the sorts of things to really increase ray trace capacity it starts to look even more like it can have an essentially more general purpose kind of setup anyway more than likely.

8000 high-end was scraped because design was late and would have been too close to 9000 series launch, which is why they put all resources related to 8000 highend to 9000. I would be extremely disappointed if they had to do same to 9000 series and I would probably loose hope of getting chiplet gaming compute unit been split. Main issue as far as i understand is getting the these computes unites to talk each other fast enough and thus theoretical max performance especially for gaming is meaningless. It all comes down to how costly the communication will be, and if it would indeed be only 70% I bet AMD would be pretty happy. Even 50% would be insanely good for fist gen.

Hope? Yes. Reality? No. As a theoretical concept, it's valid, but that's as far as it goes. They've been having problems coordinating multiple chiplets without serious latency penalties that cripple performance.

Sound like an AI card and it sounds early for a next generation since RDNA 4 isn't out yet sounds early for a UDN product unless UDN is a rebrand of an existing likely AI development path.
@amindamok
@amindamok 12 дней назад
They are not sandbagging. They will not be releasing any 9000 series any time soon. Let alone a card the pushes 600w. AMD development is always weighted more toward efficiency than performance. They make their money serving a market where efficiency is king and that will always have a direct effect on whatever consumer product they develop.

so amd is providing a true " sli " config with rdna 5 , still worried about the latency between the chips tho , unless, each gpu chip in that chiplet design can do one specialized task , like , 1 would handle vertex generation, the second could do the raster part, the 3rd could do the post proccess, so on and so fourth , actually ,something like that could be beneficial on console , the devs would just have to worry about the timings for each chips

Not a chance even this will be real from AMD. Enthusiast will be shedding close to $1999 to $2499 or more at retail for a 5090 GPU, by the time RDNA/UDNA 5+ comes out NVidia may have the 6000 series ready to cook. I believe it's a mistake that AMD will not compete in the high end GPU this time around.
@Diglo1

You are jumping the gun here. AMD has already done multi computedie GPUs for CDNA. It is not any good for gaming because gaming requires lower latency. That is the reason why AMD went with single "big" compute die and multiple memory chiplets. There is massive overhead in this type of design and it is extremely amazing how well AMD did, but there clearly was performance left untapped. Going with two or more compute chiplets makes any many times more harder to get rid on the overhead it brings. AMD is much better of with big compute die and memory chiplets like they did with 7000 series or just go as far as they can with monolithic die. While CDNA type architecture is perfect for compute, AI and simulation applications and scales very well, that sort of architecture would require some heavy substrate modifications and some heavy innovation to get rid of this so called "buss" between the dies. Currently there has to be a buss for chiplets to talk to one another and those require controllers for those busses. This is all additional logic which requires power and space and inherently generates higher latency. For gaming application this buss has to be super fast so that it won't become a bottleneck. It is much more difficult job to do vs what they did with Ryzen CPUs which till this day have that inherent flaw, though it has been mitigated trough out the years. However there will be a point where CDNA type architecture along with RDNA3's ideas will generate new innovation and products that could possibly overcome these issues. Or we discover a totally new way of doing GPUs. EDIT: There are currently TSV's which with 3D packaging can do almost just that which is to get rid of extra busses between dies. With this sort of setup it is possible to connect two dies with the shortest possible paths. However this will bring another issue which is heat and getting both dies cooled. Also packaging two very expensive dies without braking both is very difficult and possibly out of reach for current 3D packaging technologies.

it was true far in the past and recently the 6900XT, well used (powertool + watercooling) beat the 3090 about performance & consumption, just the RT was the problem, with RDNA5 AMD have a chance, cause they will work just as nvidia card, that's not the case with the 6xxx series. amd don't have bvh and less hardware optimization about RT processing. anyway, actually on 4K even 4090 isn't enough =)

highest mid tier 8000 for me next year which should be great to hold me over till RDNA5's Highest Mid tier Card. I also hope they have em lots in stock because I been wanting Reference Cards going forward. also everyones against it but can I have my 3.1 power connector on my AMD cards already...having a single cord vs 3x 8 pins would be nice
