Look at the reception of the 7800XT versus basically any RTX 40 series card that isn't the 4090. I'll bet AMD wishes they skipped the high end on THIS generation. Nvidia's mindshare is insane, but their mid range value has been a serious weakness ever since the 3070Ti happened.

I brought a rx 6700xt this february which was 4000 rupees (arround 50$) cheaper then 3060 8gb, imo best decision i made. I don't have the money to upgrade frequently and i am planing on keeping it for atleast 4 years and maybe more.

I didn't like my Vega card because I couldn't see Grub or the prompt for my motherboard bios when using multiple monitors. 13:40 I have the same issue with a RX570 card. Won't work in a i5 system, but works in a R3 3100 system. The 5500xt I have work in all my systems, but need 750w PSU to never crash.

Years ago, who would’ve ever imagined eVGA would leave the graphics card business? AMD leaving the high end, whether short term or long term, is absolutely not a stretch of the imagination these days. Thanks for the historical summary. The longer I go, the more my RX 580 cements its position as my savviest component purchase ever (bought it brand new at a great price on a flash sale when prices overall were just ridiculous). :)

right at the end of the "shortage" in spring 2022 AMD was fully in stock (a whole wall of cards) at my local store, but that local store had the cards marked up just as high as the nvidia cards they only had 1 on the shelf of. I honestly think AMD and/or the retailers may have screwed themselves in that moment sales wise. it was the perfect opportunity to steal market share from nvidia but the cards just sat on the shelf unsold overpriced.

I agree. Nvidia runs prices bad enough to hand AMD victory on a silver platter, but they won't take it because they're deathly afraid of leaving money-per-card on the table, I guess.

Makes me a bit sad. I suppose if they focus on the middle it might be more profitable. 7800XT looks good. I will be sad there won't be more high end cards as 7900XTX is pretty nice, would have loved a 8900XTX (though I likely wouldn't be upgrading again so soon), oh well.

A year and a half ago I upgraded my PC to a 5800x3D and 6 months later HAD to upgrade my GPU because it died, Luckily for me Amazon had a Flash sale on the RX6600 8gb and I paid £180 for it which was £30 less than what I paid for my RX580 4gb back in July 2017. I will say this for the 4gb rx580 it IS STILL capable of playing many modern titles @1080p at low to medium settings. I actually paid £69.99 last week for a RX590 from Ebay, for a basic PC I am building for my mum's 80th b'day and that card will be total overkill for what she uses a PC for. So to summarise I think it is a really smart Idea of AMD to go back to basics and concentrate on the low to mid range of the Market, If they can Dominate that segment again, with Decent price to performance they can always releases a limited run of a High end card's closer to the release the RDNA5 if it makes sense. being as that will be the end of 2026 mid 2027

This was great information. I'm still running an RX 580 in my computer and I'm looking to upgrade, but don't have the money for anything better than an RX 6600. It'll still be a great upgrade. It makes sense that AMD would back off from the high end GPU market when it isn't profitable. They don't want to invest in something that isn't going to provide a positive return comparable to the amount of effort to make it.
@TechDeals
@TechDeals 9 месяцев назад
The RX 6600 is a great card and a nice upgrade over a 580, however... if you can at all swing it, a 6700 or 6700 XT would give you far more life and more VRAM. If not, so be it, but it's worth it if you can make it work.

@@Krenisphia I disagree with that because currently the 6700 cost 33% (~$280) or more than the 6600 (~$210). For someone on a small budget, that's a significant difference. That being said, I still like the idea of getting the 6700, it's just not a priority right now.
@johnnyfateSH419

@@Krenisphia it depends on the country you are buying this cards, 6700 isn't available where I live and 6700xt price is around $475 while the 6600 is $230. And with the supplies running out, both card are kind of hard to find now. Come to think of it, I think this why AMD can't beat Nvidia with market shares because RTX 3060 are always in stock while AMD cards are always hard to come by. Btw, Radeon cards simply perform better with most freesync monitors than Nvidia cards use Gsync-compatible. And I like RSR which can be used on almost every game, because I have some old games locked at 1080p or lower. RSR does a very good job on those old games.

There was some driver problems with 5700xt at first but those kinks are all gone now. The 5700xt still runs certain games better then a 2070 and is on par with no doubt. Good show. I have the 7900xtx and it runs good but is gigantic and heats up my room, everybody wants a nvidia card just like they want iphones, the tech is great but mainly its a name game i believe.

@ElladanKenet
@ElladanKenet 9 месяцев назад
I think the driver issues AMD had with the 400 and 5000 series really hurt them. Even if they got fixed relatively quickly, they were around long enough, and word travelled fast enough, that virtually everyone abandoned them for Nvidia. And Nvidia made some major improvements since the 900 series so that now, they 'seem' to be better to the average person. They just don't know. And even the potential customers who are being told that AMD is actually good and a better value aren't believing it. Which is a shame. But also, I think AMD's mind is made up, thanks to the success of ChatGPT and the burgeoning ai market. AMD is insentivized to use their production for what makes them the most money, and that is a highly sensible way to do things, as a profitable company would. And if they can't get back market share, they might as well make the most money they can with what limited share they have.

17:00 The 7900XT, the price and performance, compared to the 7900XTX, killed whatever momentum AMD was seeking. Most people, who would have bought the 7900XT, either (like sheep) shelled out the extra $300 for the 4080 or waited for the 12GB 4080 to be released as the 4070Ti. That is where I think AMD's GPU share started to sink toward the single-dogits.

Just my opinion on the way the NVIDIA GPU stack should have looked. 4090 24GB - $1600 (no changes) 4080 16GB becomes the 4080Ti with 20GB at $1200 4070Ti 12GB becomes the 4080 16GB at $800 (I would buy this maybe 3 of them) later slot in a new card 4070Ti 12GB slotted between the new 4080 and 4070 currently at $700 (bad seller but its there) 4070 stays where it is at $600 with 12GB of course they could have made the 4070ti and 4070 both 16GB cards to improve their appeal... Maybe there was something with chip design that didn't allow the 16GB on the 4070ti but man that would have been the perfect 4080 if NVIDIA wasn't so damn greedy with their VRAM. I swear it seems they are doing everything possible to avoid making another 1080Ti.

AMD's track record, they have done this multiple times in the past although it's been awhile. A simple node change will get them 3/4's way there, if they used 4NM this gen they'd likely match/surpass Nvidia's efficiency. Take the 7900 XT, throw it on 3NM, add a modest 5% IPC gain + higher clocks and they're within striking distance of those targets. They "could" sell it for $500-$700, especially with their massive margins and with the way the economy is going they likely won't have a choice. @@user78405

Hi Tech, I think unless AMD catches up in terms of software, nobody is getting a Nvida pricing high end AMD card. Nvidia can charge 1600+ not just because the card is fast, it's also because it has the best RT, Raster, DLSS 3.0 support, pretty much the whole package. The 7900XTX is price competitive, but if people want the best all round, then they'll go straight for the NVIDIA card. I think AMD made a lot of mistakes in terms of pricing and naming card, but their current high volume sellers tell a story of it's own. 7900XTX great alternative to the rtx4080, 7900XT at $750 demolishes the rtx4070ti, 7800Xt $500 very compelling against the rtx4070, 7700XT horrible compared to the 7800XT, but strong against the 4060ti. AMD needs to offer a much bigger value in order to move the masses to try out AMD cards around 15% to 25% cheaper than their Nvidia counterpart. It's horrible to have Nvidia dominate the high end, but I think asking AMD to push for the high end every generation would take away chances to catch up in the long run.

Skipping the high end makes a lot of sense with the current economic uncertainties. I'm not sure how it is across the pond, but here in the land of cheese and clogs barely anybody wants to spend thousands on hobbies. Cost of living well over doubled since the funny flu, some basic necessities tripled in cost even. A loaf of bread costs closer to 3€, but 3 years ago it was sub 1€. The government only admitted to 4-4.5% inflation, so people didn't get more money. AMD has more reasons than just purchasing power I'm sure, but it comes at a good time.

I can only speak from experience, so here it is: I really like AMD, and the last card I got from them was a rx 6700 non xt (got a good price at the time in my country for it) right when the mining craze was starting to die down. Well, what do you know, the card was unusable: black screen and driver crash/restart followed by the occasional complete system reboot in EVERY action that required 3d acceleration. That means internet, games, every single gaming client out there (the worst was Epic's launcher where hardware acceleration could not be turned off), even windows desktop.....the card was unusable basically. Looked online for every possible fix, emailed amd CS support, no success....and THAT is why I continue to use nvidia to this day and why I think so many people choose nvidia or just don't buy anything new if they can help it lately. Is AMD faster in raster than most of nvidia's counterparts? Apparently, yes. But are they working, HASSLE-FREE? No, I don't think they are. And all tech youtubers and reviewers who 95% of the time get their cards directly from producers and don't encounter all these issues don't seem to understand that maybe their cards were cherry picked from the best lots in order to ensure functionality, but maybe the rest of us are not so lucky. Bottom line is, AMD has a history of questionable functionality, be it hardware or software related, and I think this is the end-result on a global scale. The evil competitor may be evil, but his cards are fast, stable and just work. Plus, doesn't hurt that their marketing team has been killing it for years now.

No matter the reasons. No matter how we spin it. This is bad for video card consumers. I hope AMD can reclaim market share by doing this. I must admit that when i buy a new video card, i look at the AMD and buy the NVIDIA because it just works. I upgraded from an old blower style 1080GTX to a RTX3060ti...it just worked. I want to buy AMD but when it comes time I spend more on NVIDIA for the reliability...I am the same with INTEL CPUs. I have owned AMD CPUs and GPUs in the past and hope to again. I don't know what it will take to get me to switch back and if I don't know...how can AMD know. I will say the 7800XT is very compelling in price to performance. The reason I have held off is to see what happens to the 6800XT and 4070 prices. Also, AMD, for the love of all that is Holy...please quit destroying your branding. The 6800XT competed against the 3080. Now the 7800XT competes against the 4070...you should have called it the 7800 or 7700XT if you really needed the XT branding...then the step down could have been a 7700. I swear AMD's marketing is just so broken at the moment. The really messed up this generation with the XTX moniker.

I would urge you to give AMD another shot to be honest. I have found their recent GPU's to be nothing but reliable. I have had a 6700XT, 6800XT and am now rocking a 7900XT and have had no more issues with these than nVidia cards I've also had in my multi-PC household - which is to say really good reliability for both. AMD CPU's have been a bit more hit and miss, I have had a 3800X and 5950X which have been rock solid stable, but a 5600X in another PC had a rare crashing issue related to boosting too high and I had to limit the boost to get it stable. Just got a 5800X3D as my final gaming PC CPU for AM4 and have had zero issues with it so far.

Price the 7700XT at 500 like they did and eventually work the 7700 down to $400...they might take some market share back ... but as it is...people walk into a store and dont have a clue about what is what these days....most people dont watch tech tubers to find out the deals.

Its not propoganda. DLSS is just that much better. On my 3080, I can put up with DLSS on the highest resolution setting (whatever its called) and barely put up with it. FSR just gets shimmery edges. I didn't know about AMD releasing a better card with less VRAM in the past when they were the ones who started putting out 8gigs of vram in the first place. That is such an AMD move that it doesn't even surprise me lmao, they always manage to shoot themselves in the foot anytime they do well. The mining boom was the perfect time for AMD to make their gpus mass available for cheap when Nvidia were busy selling to miners and yet 6800xt cost $1200. Looking at the reactions for the 7800XT (both from the consumers and Nvidia), AMD could've easily done similar to the 7900xt/xtx instead of following's nvidia's shitty and predatory tactic of moving the entire product line down and upselling the higher tier cards (mind you AMD did this with the 7700xt). if xtx was something like $899 and 7900xt $699 (it's the real 7800xt with 30% uplift over 6800xt) it would've looked the 4090 look crazy expensive and the 4080 outright silly. the 7800xt could still have been $499 and 7700xt $399. AMD will end up lowering the price within a few months anyways tho and miss out on all the release day hype. I'm interested to see what the chiplets do next gen and if AMD starts taking raytracing more seriously. The biggest difference however in my opinion is DLSS (AI), in a lot of games the performance difference in RT titles are pretty close but it's DLSS vs FSR that makes all the difference, both in terms of quality and performance and now with ray reconstruction the gap widens even more because for the first time Nvidia will have better visual quality when it comes to RT games.

They're skipping because they can't keep up. Pure and simple. Some of AMDs issues has been they simply couldn't produce enough GPUs to compete with Nvidia. IMO. And now with the 7800XT release, although they sold out quickly, they don't appear to be able to fulfill demand. So are the new 7800XTs just that popular or there's not enough stock or a mixture of both? I started to get one on launch day but decided to wait a bit. Actually,none is buying anything. You can go to microcenter and they had nvidia GPUs stacked up to the ceiling. They had to move a whole wall of motherboard over stock so they could continue to make room for all the nvidja cards. Nvidia distroyed AMD during Covid where not enough cards could be make quick enough. Remember miners? Yeah,they bought all those hundreds of thousands of rtx 3060. If you factor in miners who purchased probably 70% of all GPUs back then that should make things a bit more fair to AMD. Nvidja was just able to make way more cards. As of right now though,i don't think anyone is buying nvidia. However they just made so much money already that they could care less if they barely sell enough cards. They are set for the next 5 years. That being said,they probably still want to keep making money and having control of market share which is why the lower the price of the 4070.

I'll bet we're close to a thermal wall. The 5090 honestly I don't feel is appreciable improvement over the 4090 either if early rumors end up being true. AMD can't make a 8900 XTX, so what? It probably still wouldn't be as good as a 4090, and if it was, not as good as a 5090. I don't see why AMD needs to make x900 XT/XTX level on 8000 series. How about something low profile that's nice, has an 8x interface and no power plug for once. If we're going into a frame generating, machine learning upscaling reality..............AMD's FSR seems to work in everything and is in consoles, AMD isn't done.

Nvidia drivers: Constant development, work most of the time. AMD drivers: Roll the dice and cross your fingers. I've personally isolated and reported bugs down to the exact version where it changed, and demonstrated a fix by overwriting the newer file with the older. Status: not fixed last I checked. This could be a good thing. Having one rock solid midrange card with the whole driver team focusing on it could improve their image, and lead to better future products - and sales.

The greediest sons of $%$%)$% 🤡are the game studios that don't optimise their games enough for the hardware that cost an arm and a leg every other year. Just look at the last Jedi Survivor game on PS5 for instance. They optimised and stabilised FPS with their latest patch; what did they do? They removed ray-tracing completely from the game! A feature that Sony and Playstation are marketing like hell as being available on the PS5. But when push comes to shove, most game studios stay the hell away from spending money and time into optimisation. Sony can keep on marketing all it wants that most games don't yet take full advantage on the PS5 but reality is different. Mind you, the PS5 hardware from the hydrid AMD architecture is very dated, yet it's capable of rendering beautiful games such as Horizon Forbidden West at near stable 60fps, 40fps, and 30fps depending on the graphics mode you opt for. Back to Jedi Survivor. It's PC counterpart is still performing horribly... why? I wonder... In short, yes, companies are all greedy. Hardware companies try to throw better stronger faster lighter hardware at the problem while game companies optimise less and less and pass the cost onto us the gamers/enthusiasts. It's that bloody simple, as always, follow the money ... 🤑
