This is very incorrect. Araucanas were the originators of both ameraucanas and Easter eggers. Easter eggers are just mutts with some araucanas or ameraucana or another blue egger. They are not the originators of anything, and it's somewhat offensive to claim that. Araucanas are a much older breed that originate from Chile. Ameraucanas were bred from them to eliminate the genetic issues that come from both the rumpless gene and the tufted gene and thus to improve their hatch and laying rates. Easter eggers can literally be any crossbreeds people care to pass off under that name.
I had no idea we had a chicken breed, and it's named after a fucking tree holy shit of course we saw a chicken and went "ah yes, this looks just like that tall bush with spiky leaves" ... why do I feel patriotic over that? fuck the condor we got tiny murder pigeons
Came to say just this, Araucanas are the OG genetics. Easter Eggers are mutts that have some blue genes that can result in a range of blue-green egg coloring, sometimes even brown if they get the recessive-recessive lottery.
I have 2 laying hens and they are very quiet ladies and the docile part is very true. I couldn't ask for better hens. Now I got a leg horn rooster...he may be pie next Christmas 😂 I got 2 eggs today and one was teal the other was a sky blue. Both are very pretty eggs. I hear they lay brownish ones also? But havent gotten any yet. I have had my hens now for about 2 months and have gotten about 2 dozen eggs from 2 hens which isnt bad! I wanted to start small I get things under control and figure out how I'm gonna even do it. But next spring I plan of getting baby chicks! ☺ idk if I'm gonna go with more ameracanas or if I'm gonna get a couple barred rocks cause I really wanna get some variety and also maybe even an olive egg layer that would be pretty 😊 my rooster needs more ladies anyway he is a really pretty male he has a giant comb and waddles and one beautiful tail! Was told he is a show chicken! 😅 but Idk if I wanna get into that.
real Ameraucanas only lay blue eggs. period. they may be different shades of blue but still blue. if they eay other colors they are the easter eggers/americana or some other name to make you thinki you have a real Ameraucana.
Depends on who you buy them from. I got 2 hens for free 💁 but I knew the lady. most people will sell a hen for $7-$30 a hen depending on breed. And roosters come cheap, normally for $5-$10.
You also dont know how old the chickens are when you get them from someone when the chicken is full grown most the time if it is a full grown chicken a person can say it's a 11 month old chicken when really its 2 years old and almost at the end of its laying days. Chickens egg production starts slowing down when they are avout 3 years of age. So really its best to go with chicks... You can buy offline but it is risky I would go to a local poultry farm and buy a dozen chicks and some starter feed and raise the chickens from chick. I will let you know tho you will end up with more roosters than hens so the more chicks you get the better odds you will have more hens. Cause you can buy 12 chicks and most the time 9/12 chicks will be roosters 💁 sadly and you only need 1 rooster to 8-10 hens so the other 8 roosters you get kinda turn into dinner cause their aint no point in feeding a bird that one doesn't produce and two they fight and make a whole lot of fucking noise. So you got two options 😂 either get 2 dozen chicks and end up with 6 hens and 1 rooster and 15 some birds in the freezer. Cause a chick is only $1.50 some are $2 😐 I'm not shitting you
