i'm from holland and i think that the most people that i know would say about america is that they think that they are beter than the rest of the world. but that isn't. and thats sometimes the problem.
+Iese00 It's interesting how true that statement is yet many people in the US use European countries as a comparison of how the US should handle issues like healthcare, gun control, education, environmentalism, taxation, etc.
+Alkalinium because , they can do so much stuff to to world. thats incredible. no country in the world has some mutch power. obama can do want he want. not really when he says not the words god bless you america he has a really big problem. thats hypocrite. yes thats the word for america hypocrite. you can start a war because what happend 14 years a go 9/11 . in that war have died 10.000 americans and people from irkak 1.000.000. dead body not a only soldiers but also children . a land full of dreams they say....... ( sorry for my bad english i'm only 15 years old hihi)
+Alkalinium I've spoken to some people and it seems the assumption stems from how optimistic and individualistic we are. If we say, "American is awesome", in our mind it's an optimistic and individual statement. It has no bearing on our opinion of other countries. It's a statement that stands alone. To cultures that are less individualistic, it's interpreted as "American is awesome and is therefore better than you". It comes from viewing statements from a community standpoint rather than an individualistic one. I'm not sure that's the case in lese00's area, but that's what I gleaned from people I've spoken to from other countries.
Now do an only American one, Where we see Americans talk about what they think about Dubai or Bangkok or New Delhi And let's see how many of em even know where it is.
+Abdirizaak Mohammed Actually ask them about Thailand if you want to ask them about Bangkok. It's not like they're asking about a specific state, like Alaska or Nevada. Cut asked them about American stereotypes. America is well known, like Thailand, China, Japan, you saying that is unfair, when the people in the video probably don't know about all 50 states anyway.
+Alie Killiko True. But Addis Adaba is a major city and a capital. We should know where it is. I wouldn't have much to say about it stereotypically, but I think of it as having a rainy season.
Nick Johnston Omg, oversensitive much? It was a fucking joke and meant to make people smile. I even added a ":P", so that people won't miss it. I thought Germans had no humour. Apparently that's a stereotype for US-Americans now too. (And no, you probably don't know more geography than I do; I'm pretty brilliant at it. [And before you get me wrong again: No, I didn't say that US-Americans can't know geography])
+Anisa Hussein lol, Way to be thankful for what you have. I'm not saying we are perfect, or that we should strive to be only "good enough" but that doesn't mean we need to look at our still-great country like an angsty teen looks at.......well everything. I'm tired of this unnecessary putting-down of america BY AMERICANS as a way to feel superior, or cause it's now trendy. You think we are the worst thing to happen to huanity, or that our freedom is nothing but a myth? Go to any middle eastern country, or pick a random country on the map.....you are very likely to miss your terrible, worse-than-cancer America. Sorry if i came off disrespectful. :)
+Anisa Hussein Honestly, there will never be either of those in this world. True freedom can never be achieved in society, no country has or will ever be truly just. Its just the way nature works, it doesn't have to appeal to the human reasoning. But yeah, people have this wrong notion that the US is doing very well at both of those which is wrong. Countries like the Netherlands and Sweden are doing better. But hey, the US is certainly better than half if not a little more than the rest of the world.
America: it's a continent. I'm Indonesian who moved to US a few years ago. My impression of this country: Food, Quantity over Quality. High Fructose Corn Syrup. I have difficulty eating something sweet here because they're just toooo sweet. I am considered fat in Indonesia/60kg, I'm perfectly normal here. Their measurements are different compare to the rest of the world; miles, inches, pounds, feet, fahrenheit. People love spending time inside than outside on holidays. Commercials on TV are re-tards, sometimes don't make sense. Their groceries list are microwave stuffs and instant foods. Few bought fresh ingredients. The positive side: you can just wear whatever, nobody will say you look bad even if you look bad. There isn't many black outs like in Indonesia, electricity is always on/except may be there's natural disaster. On general, americans are very open and nice. *and also Indonesia is a fast changing country while US is a slow changing country. Sometimes I feel like living back in the 90s here.
+The Centrist Perspective This is a cliché. Just like it would be a cliché to said that this answer was probably written by a person who knows the world by sitting on their couch and looking TV.
+Ruthann Tesfaye What she said for 'paradise' was similar pronounciation with Turkish word 'cennet'..I bet it's same Arabic origin. It was incredible seeing that :)
As a New Zealander, the first thing that came to mind was patriotism and ignorance toward the rest of the world. A major percentage probably don't know where New Zealand is, or the fact we are rated #1 in Freedom across the world
+Dhalgrim That is changing though. Most younger conservatives are pretty socially liberal these days. And the amount of people who identify as atheist or agnostic is growing. That's why some Christians are crying about a war on God.
Lmao I’m bored American culture isn't remanent of what you think when you hear "culture". It's much more peculiar as the culture is raised around rich entertainment productions, large portioned food sizes, heavy patriotism, football. Those are just simple ones, but looking the history of the US, the culture is quite rich and very diverse
I think American culture is the diversity and mix between all of different in cultures of the world . American culture is Civil liberties, equality and freedom & ofc Hollywood has shaped the whole world The land of opportunity . But sadly America is no where near that image now ,I hope y'all can make it up. PS. I am not from USA and never been there.
Their culture for us is that they have no culture haha, that is, cowboys, American football, hot dogs, cheerleaders, etc. Basically the idea of 1950s movies. Pretty empty, sorry.
Rocio Catalina what does that even mean? What do you define as culture? Specific music, foods, clothing, language, traditions, etc. because America has all of that. It is literally impossible for a nation to not have a culture
+DeepInYourLady the only pizza invented in Italy is Margherita??? almost all the pizzas invented are italian, only few recent one are been made in other countries (like the pineapple one) and If you go to Italy you can see that there are pizzerias everywhere, and pizza is really really popular...don't offend someone culture just to raise yours please
I don't blame her. Most roles in movies and tv shows are white people even when its historically inaccurate. The popular media generates that most people are white I see what she means
@@andydany3260 I know that part, but it's wrong, North, Central and South America are different REGIONS, not continents, and "America" it self, is the whole continent, from Greenland to Argentina.
I thought everyone thought we were just dumb and overall the stereotypes were obese, stupid, and lacking cleanliness but it isn't really like that from my knowledge. I live in America and lots of people are pretty athletic and know lots of things.
What americans think America is: USA What America really is: USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, those islands in central america, Venezuela, Colombia, Equator, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguai, Paraguai and also Brazil. THIS.IS.AMERICA.
When most people say 'America' they're usually referring to the US. Isnt 'the Americas' what you mean when you're combining north and south America? I'm confused now lol
I actually really like this video and I'm extremely disappointed in the comment section. The people in the video said that the stereotypes weren't necessarily true, and the French woman even said that her country is also perceived as knowing everything. Comment section, please be a little smarter. Not all Americans are fat, stupid, etc.
Holy shit she got it spot on "dumb, mostly eat fast food and are very patriotic". Obviously not all Americans, but I would wager that a majority are exactly that
Andy Pej I would agree with those sentiments. I, too, am an American, born and raised. Been learning several languages in the hopes of going to school overseas and eventually live elsewhere permanently. There are things to like living in the third largest city in the US I'll admit but overall, I think living in Europe might be a better fit. We'll see... Bien à vous
I'm from uae, Dubai and I think that Americans are very kind loving people, very open. I admire the entertainment there.. Like I can't imagine my life without American entertainment
+Aysha I'm honestly amazed that so many people from the UAE seem to like America so much! I hope you aren't disappointed If you ever visit America!! :D
+Mini Halo I went to america and I loved the people even more! Honestly they are so kind! I never felt I was away from home. They smile at you and will even start a conversation for an hour even if they just met you! I travel a lot, and america is the only country I felt this way ❤️
+Triple A Gaming Its rare to see a down to earth american like you, but sadly i have seen far too many Americans spam the chat chanting 'you hate us cause you aint us' and stuff like that.
I'm from Brazil and when I think "America" I think about the continent. America is not a country. The United States of America is not the hole thing...
it's the Americas you're thinking about or just North America or South America. The United States of America is a whole country, but we call it America or USA for short.
South Americans & Canadadians don't call themselves American just because they are in the Americas. I fucking hate it when people cry a river over this shit. It's VERY well known who Americans are when people talk about Americans. USA = Americans We aren't called USA-icans. Shut up omfg.
M8 everybody knows they ain't be talking about Mexico or Canada. In fact, before the revolution we aren't even allowed to call it the USA on tests because it didn't exist yet, so we are used to say America and USA. If we were talking about Canada, we'd say Canada, if we were talking about southern America or a country in that continent, we'd say that countries name. We all know damn well that America isn't only the U.S. Don't whine about this like everyone is neglecting all the other countries. We aren't, it is just easier to say America than saying the United States of America. And please, like people in America don't say: oh I went to Europe when they went to Sweden or something (¬_¬) I get the frustration, but can you not???
aardbeidelijkheid Well I've met people who ask me if Obama is the president of North america and South america bc they hear people saying he is the president of america, it is not bc it bothers me it's bc CutVideo are a serious youtube channel so they should write the titles of their videos correctly.
+ı ąɱ ą ʂῳɛɖɛ, i used to think that too until i visted the uk. my username on some website used to be "i-wish-i-were-british" lol. that's def not the case anymore.
honestly though I'm from America and I think the coolest thing about it is that all of these people fit in. I've seen people just like them in the country and that just shows how diverse it is
I've been to California (I live in Canada, so plane ride to lax, then we stayed there for a bit, drove up to Monterey and Santa Barbara, up to San Francisco, then down back to la). I could see why it's called the sunshine state.
Saeyoung Choi I mean, when we have a Little Tokyo in the state, you're bound to have fujoshis/fudanshis in the area hehe Clear is my favorite route in both games :D
My pet peeve with "They aren't well traveled" as an insult is that that woman, and others who say this, seem to forget how big the US is. We don't live in Europe where one country is less than a days travel from another. All methods of travel besides using ones own feet is expensive. Planes especially. There are many Americans who want to see the world. They don't have the means. A lot of people travel from state to state, but some can't afford to do even that. Besides that it's simply amusing (and predictable) to see other countries criticize the United States for things they won't own up to themselves (Not particularly the people in the video). They call us ignorant based on perpetuated stereotypes and little insight, and believe they know something without actually being there. It's hypocritical. Of course, there are people like that in America too, but at least some of us have the ability to recognize it.
+Flora Tully very true, the closest countries near us are Canada and Mexico. Many people i think forget that America is basically by itself and surrounded by ocean on both sides. It is also easier for European people to be more "cultured" because their societies/cultures have been around for much longer than the U.S.
That woman was australian so not only is it the same size as the USA but much further away from everything too... Australians make it a priority to travel and learn about cultures. We also have a far better working environment than usa (minimum wage is about $18 per hour, we get 4 weeks vacation leave), we have free healthcare, etc, etc. a free market economy like USA has means many people will never have the freedoms that Europe and Australia have bc it aims to make dome rich and keep the poor poor. Not saying out country is perfect but as someone who have travelled a lot, USA is the last place I'd choose to live...
+Sarah B LOL, where do I begin: 1. Your healthcare is not "free." Please stop saying that. Nothing is free. You pay through much higher taxes in Australia than the USA (MUCH HIGHER) that so many Americans do not like and having the gov control their health care needs, while health care in the USA is subsidized to a certain degree and people and businesses pay out of pocket for private care. 2. LOL, most Americans make more than minimum wage with $21.50 an hour in the USA being the average. And your Australian dollar is worthless compared to the US dollar so there is a reason your minimum wage is higher. 3. Australians cultured? I have been around Australians back in my day and the last thing I could call your breed is "cultured" especially after a few drinks. You guys don't have a great reputation as you think. 4. Who asked you if you wanted to moved to the USA? LOL, like your special enough that 330 million people in America care whether you think USA is place to live. I got news for you - hardly any Americans think about Australia or think it of it as a place to settle or want to live either. I think I covered it all.
+Flora Tully Your comment is proof positive you're not well travelled and a little bit ignorant. There is a world out there that isn't the US or Europe. Including that woman who was in AUSTRALIA! From the US you can get to Europe in less than half the time (And for half the price usually)!
+Geometric Fro For one, I never said Europe specifically. And I reckon you need to remind some Europeans that Asia, Africa, and South America exists. Two, when I say "affordable", I do not mean simply monetarily and again, I was not talking about traveling solely to Europe. I'm not arguing with you because there is nothing to argue about. Have a nice day.
Please do more of these! I teach middle and high school world languages in the US and I'm always looking for things like this to help students with perspective and to evaluate their own culture. This entire series is amazing, although I can't show the insults one in class. :-)
That Chinese Girl was spot on. I hear the same thing pretty much anytime I talk to a local in China. Also a fun fact. If you do happen to be white, a seeming majority of people in Western China (don't know about the east) will assume you have blue eyes and blond hair. Basically they think all white people are blond and blue eyed, so they don't even think to notice your real hair or eye color. It's kind of like how many westerners don't even try to notice a difference between Asian ethnicities.
okey im spanish and i gotta say that i used to think that all americans were superficial dumb people who thinks they and their country is the center of the world, very patriotic and without any critical thoughts on politics: its everything about the show for them. but this year i met some american people that were studying in europe and i found out that they are shy, kind and humble people. It was very surprising for me! stereotypes and prejuices are shit, just keep openminded and value each human being for who they are not where they come from!
O K A Y YES they should specific that because isn't different continents is the same and almost USA song don't deserve the name of America , South America Latina here where USA stole all things HERE where we are de the 3rd world we are against to people think America is only USA America is a continent aggg
Buuuuut i'm American and have traveled all over. Hell, I studied abroad in New Zealand when I was only 16 all by myself. The most interesting part of the experience was the mind-set of the people there, which encouraged me to travel more and to learn about the world around me. I agree to some extent, I have friends who have never left their state, and have no clue about the world around them. but don't slap that arrogant judgement on all of us. So too answer her question, it is just a stereotype and it's not true for all Americans, you saying that, it came off as if you don't exactly understand the world around you either.
+Sebastian Paredes not necessary, if you read the video's title you could either think it's the continent, or the country that actually isn't called "America" only
Lets be honest when those people in the video heard "America" they were only thinking about the USA. And most people saw the title of the video they thought USA.
I actually thought they meant the continent, I sometimes forget people from the US think America is just their country and it translates to the rest of the world through their culture
I mean, we know America spans two continents, and a lot of us refer to our country as the U. S. I find it is usually foreigners who call it America because we used to do that back when our country was less established, but, now, we just use the term U. S.
I'm from New Zealand and I think that America focuses a lot on history (which is important don't get me wrong; so that way history doesn't repeat itself) but doesn't really focus on the current events that's happening in OTHER countries. They also don't seem to focus too much on their education system considering their rankings globally and how for a country that big, it's pretty low. As for the people, you can't judge everyone as 1 person. Everyone is different. Sure there are some assholes who do some nasty stuff but if that was representing all of America, then it would be pretty chaotic. I know that this is a long comment but overall I think that America is filled with some talented people as well as some dumb people who do stupid things, their education system is not the best, and they focus (most of them at least) too much about themselves when really they could be more aware of other countries.
One thing that I absolutely hate about America or for those who get butt hurt and consider America as North America is the feminism. You have these women who complain about getting verbally abused by men when most of the time, they're just overreacting whereas in countries such as Cambodia, you have these girls/women getting sexually assaulted by (not only just ordinary men) but also men that are part of the military. Girls that are 13 getting pregnant it's just... horrible. Think about what's happening in other countries before you full on rants about someone calling you dumb names such as fatty or stupid.
@@Munkie I totally agree! I'm American and I believe a lot of Third Wave feminism is based on a bunch of crap. It feels as though it seeks to destroy women more than uplift them. Third Wave feminism, to me, seems to completely ignore legit issues involving women, such as human trafficking/sexual slavery, which is unfortunately rampant in our country and all around the world but it hides in the shadows. Praise God for people who work to save victims of sex trafficking and who work to catch the criminal involved.
wow, that is quite an accurate observation. I am American. I've only lived in the same town on the East Coast my whole life thus far, but I feel like your comment sums things up well. Sometimes, I feel our school systems do not focus enough on specific time periods of history and how they apply to/affect our life today, I agree, we do not seem to discuss current events a lot at all, and at least where I live, we were only taught world geography primarily in 6th and 7th grade. We are supposed to learn United States Geography in 4th and 5th grade, but I was taught practically zero geography at my school. :( It was not prioritized.
Let me edit it from an actual american Large, Free if you're white, Dreams come true if you're rich , food, music, military that's way too big and should be focused on schools and health care, anything but open minded, Happy if you have money
+scifirocks Not really. Violence in America has been on a rapid decline for the last two decades and is at historical lows. It seems like there is a lot of violence due to social media being more prevalent and everyone around the world is now more connected and in tuned, and the USA is always in the spotlight due to the country's relevancy in the world. If you think violence in the USA is bad now then you should have been here in the 80s, LOL. Today it is rather peaceful compared to any other time.
+TM56 Agreed! Also, you gotta look at too where the violence is coming from. Mostly inner-cities that are either gang or drug related or just a freak dumb butt here and there. If you get out of the cities, it's almost non-existant, almost.
When that guy from New Delhi said we have freedom and justice, I rolled my eyes and burst out laughing! What America does he know because the one most of us know is the complete opposite!
For some reason, I first think of is their untrue liberty/freedom/justice... I don't have any right to think like this wihtout seeing it in person, but I just feel like the freedom they cherish is fake
You make yourself sound foolish by saying you have no right to your opinion and then stating your opinion. Come and see for yourself; afterwards you may still honestly disagree (one of those "fake" freedoms), but you won't be ignorant.
+American Made Sorry, I didn't mean it that way; and I do plan on travelling there, since travelling is one of my dreams, and I do want to be more cultured about the world and different countries, but from what I read and hear about and see, I wouldn't like to live there.. thank you for the constructive criticism, someday I'll be more.. not ignorant..? :b
You can say many things about The United States of America, but not having real freedom, & Justice is just not true. We are the only true country of Liberty & Equality. We fought a Great War to end the tyranny of the most powerful country in the world (at the time). We inspired great minds, build a whole new type of government "for the people", we are a beacon of hope for those who don't have the same liberties as we were so bless to have. Even thought we might be misguided or lose sight in what is true and just, but we always prevail. - Your Typical American 😜❤️
Julian Hernandez I dunno, I just would like to live in, say, Greece or Italy.. (and I'm not sharing my location for several reasons, including someone who's bee stalking me on social media. I honestly don't know why)
Totally not a criticism, as such, just an observation. No anger/annoyance from me on this. I think it's funny when Europeans, or Australia or New Zealand, say that America doesn't know anything about the outside world, especially Geography, but if you hand them an unmarked map of the US and ask them to label the states, they usually can't do it any better than Americans can label European countries.
Many of us would have a general idea where some places are on the map e.g New York is on the east near the top, Florida is at the east near the bottom, California is on the west coast, Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi is in the south. I could name a bunch more states but not really know where they are, I've never been to America so I'd say my knowledge isn't that bad. From England btw.
Which is my point. I've never been to Europe, but I know where a bunch of the countries are. I'm a bit iffy on Eastern Europe, but I could do most of Western Europe pretty easily.
+Christina Telles yeah Eastern Europe is very tricky, wouldn't expect people to know the countries on the map, I'd struggle! But I think that's besides the point. I think the point is just having more general knowledge about different places (and I'm not saying you don't personally) not necessarily where they are situated on the map. I've seen comments from Americans complaining about Australians doing 'Spring make-up looks' here on RU-vid because the northern hemisphere is going into Autumn/Fall, they seriously didn't realise not everywhere is in the same season :| very worrying!
Oh, I don't deny that there are stupid Americans, and ones that didn't know that the Northern and Southern Hemispheres have seasons at different times were probably kids, but I've heard people from all over the world say really stupid things before. It's just funny that if someone from somewhere else says something stupid, then just that person is dumb, but if an American says something stupid it's becaue most Americans are dumb. I just find that amusing.
lol you think only USA has states? Let me name some of the countries that consists of many states: Germany, Russia, India, China, UAE and so on. Can you name these countries all states?
I think the coolest thing about America (as an American) is that you can start off working at McDonald's and end up being the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's definitely possible and that's what I think of as 'The American Dream', making something of yourself.
Banah Isayas but maybe the wealth culture is also a problem (I mean, look at all the stories of success (oh oops, economic success obviously) children are told)
But a social upgrade on a normal way is almost impossible. Collages are ridiculously expensive!!! How a normal citizen can afford that ? Collages are only (or most) for the privilege people. How someone from a hood like Compton can go to college? If he is a Sport wonder kid he has good chances to get a scholarship. But on a normal way ? No chance. No matter how smart he is. And what’s then a good alternative to get money? Become a drug dealer. You see the problem?
I don't want to be the person to say that hurt a little bit...but I'm embarrassed for living in the US. Like I just feel like every minute I want to leave, and it's not a possibility. I just want people to understand that the US isn't all racist and full of obesity there is some sanity in some places.
woah why do you want to leave? this is a great country. instead of leaving, prove those stereotypes wrong. im proud to be an american and always will be. there may be people who see america as obese and racist, but millions of others see it as the land of opportunity.
+Will Poole Because everything about America is negative? I hate to burst your bubble but not everyone around the world holds America in contempt and is quite fond of nation for some.
Some of these people really hit the insults. As an American this makes me angry because when we look at these countries we look up to them and not down.
I would say patriotic because americans value their country a lot and i feel like a lot of other countries see that as a way of thinking that they are better then others and it might be true in some ways but not in others
Oh and i agree with the french girl with that most americans don't know their geography that well I mean let's take buzzfeed for an example : they made a video where americans had to label all the states and they couldn't even do it THAT IS YOUR COUNTRY you should know it
+Marloes Mermans Don't judge us all- they're idiots from California. People from there care more about their low-carb gluten-free paleo raw vegan lifestyle than education.
I'm a chinese from Asia, and growing up, in fact to this day, when i think of America i still think a country that has it all (near perfection)and while i know that it is not, this is a mindset for many of us asian living in asia. many of the people i know dream of living in America and we look up highly to someone from/to the country.
tsooling I'm glad you have that idea. I hope if you ever come here it's all that you've hoped for. It feels like nowadays a lot of people in the U.S. forget how good they have it and try to find problems with everything. I love when foreigners come here I'd love to meet people from other countries more often :D
This made me so sad because of the way we (Americans) are stereotyped throughout the world. There are so many people here who aren't clueless or ignorant about the world, who aren't obese, who don't constantly eat junk food. Of course many people here have earned those descriptions, but I just find it sad that in these countries people see the US as a place where the houses are built of gold and people sit around 24/7 eating pizza. Maybe some do, but generally speaking, there are amazing and hardworking people in the US. Sorry for the long comment, but I just got so sad watching this. Now please, don't get me wrong, I am definitely not saying that these people around the world should know better, nor am I arguing that the whole of America is perfect, but merely saying that I wish the world would realize that Americans are not all piggy slobs.
Sorry , i live in Roma in the center town. Every day i meet and i see MANY american tourists. Often are fat and rude , always are ignorant about art and history and sloppy , bad dressed and with disgusting flip flops at their feet. No quality in their life. Ugly people, this is sad , but it s my experience and i m a professor of sociology
So many people believing that there are no limits to your dreams in America makes me want to make it completely true. I want to make it so that no matter who you are, when you arrive in America anything can happen. When foreigners talk about America like that, it gives me so much optimism.
***** Both of those werent a insult lmao. And im no Trump supporter i wanted Hillary to win. Now go and learn what insults are because you obviously dont know what they are.
Christian Orddonez OMFG YOU ARE WHY PEOPLE HATE OUR COUNTRY, IDIOT. I sincerely apologize to all in this comment section, I can atleast try to assure you that not all of us are like that.
I love America. We have education, freedoms, and good living conditions. That's a lot more than a lot of places. Yeah, we still have a ways to go and things to fix, but I love living here.
Joe Martin you'd have to be ignorant and naive to think that we don't have freedom in the United States. Have you gone to countries that don't? I doubt it.
