So good to hear PJ's salty voice again. We miss his passion, endless knowledge, experience, wisdom and humility. We are yet to see his equal. Hope he is enjoying good health and vitality.
Was landslide in Barcelona today watching ETNZ go up two nil against GBR. Different eras, different boats, different technology. It's still cool to watch both variants of AC.
Che bella che era Luna Rossa ...sul fatto estetico siamo sempre stati i più belli....quelle si che erano delle vere barche con le vele al vento con tutti gli scricchiolii che le vere barche tengono 🇮🇹
I like the big mono hulls and hearing all the creaking, groaning and straining of the hardware and ropes against the wind and water. I wouldn't have a problem if they wanted to bring in more modern technology within this formula though.
So nice to see this type of racing again. Modern day cats are certainly spectacular and exciting but so was this. It's like ODI cricket and a five day test cricket. The longer version is more pure. Modern day Americas Cup racing is synonymous with the average attention span of people today.
These boats versus the foiling catamarans? Do I have to choose? The modern cats are amazing but these are actual sailboats. I can see what they're doing with their sail trim. The cats of today are like spaceships...super cool but not resembling anything I'll ever be able to sail. I love them both.
@@JoeJones-yx5be 0% it is wholly illogical. And not only that it's incongruous with reality to the extent that there isn't even a relatable emotional valance. There is no conceivable rationale to divide monohull from catamaran as though one is or is not a "sailboat". It's a complete nonsense.
This is apples and oranges compared to the nee AC game. Sail Trim and tactics can't be replicated in the new boats. If speed was the only thing that matter now race fans wouldn't watch anything but drag racing. Classic monohull match racing will Never die in the eyes of true sailors
The America's Cup isn't about match racing, it is just a match race format because it is only 2 boats. The America's Cup is supposed to be about a combination of design and skill, developing the best sailing program that your country can put together, monohulls don't fit this bill anymore. The America's Cup should be a box rule and with a nationality rule. We just need a defender to actually implement this.
@Angelous Bacon what part of "a perpetual challenge cup for friendly competition between nations" is difficult for you to understand? www.americascup.com/en/history
Non so cosa farei per assistere in diretta in barca a vela ad una competizione così importante....penso che le mille sensazioni che si proverebbero, sarebbe un libro di emozioni indescrivibili.....
I watched this after seeing the latest races and have to say this is streets ahead for interest and ex citement. Do you think we will ever go back to these designs?
not with the Americas cup.. will these type of boats race again? I'm sure they may already but again Americas cup will most always be cutting edge boat design.
@Despiser Despised funny you mention F1 - a sport I know pretty well. I'd argue the strategy in F1 is like monohull racing while the simple speed factor with multi-hulls is like watching drag racing.
yep last of the real sailboat races, did you see when they stopped before a start, both pointed and stayed in one direction, and backed up using the sails
in a museum ?? even vendee globe imoca monohull do have foils ! and they sail in the worst seas like the current tempest in the south indian ocean. so what s the point of those old fashioned boats, a part from nostalgia ??
Queste erano regate....l’uomo, la sua forza, l’intelligenza, la tattica e la sua barca! I rumori delle corde stressatissime, le vele, il cambio delle vele, i commenti a bordo....cosa è rimasto di tutto questo? Nulla! Che peccato!
With the slow boats there was still tactics. necessary. The new fast boats are won by the better logistics (material). Whoever invests more money wins the America Cup today
@@PeterAden. Totally. Went down 2 Mondays ago or is it 3 to Team Emirates dock and saw the boat. Extremely impressive. Worth the 3 stage bus journey. Cheers.
It depends on wind angle and strength. If NZ had clean air they would have been able to stay there and run over the top of Prada but they didn't and couldn't because they were getting dirty air off Prada's sails.
