hi from germany . wooow how amazing . what a brilliant voice . i love Barry White since the seventies and now i love you Lawrence too . thanks for sharing your fantastic audience . best cover ever .
Yes, he didn't do a good job on the song. He didnt hit the right notes all thru the song. people KNOW that song, people of all ages, know that song. People my age know the song, word for word and note by note. Hos stage presence sucked, it wasnt natural and half ass, choreographed. Yes, for those reasons, They cut him. In the finals, he was # 9 out of 10 acts. Not a good sign.
I think this was a bad song choice. Did he sing it well, yes, he did a fantastic job. The first two songs sounded more like his own version of the songs, whereas he came across more like a Barry White impersonator and I think that’s why he didn’t get the votes to stay in the competition after this performance. It’s a shame because Larry is a phenomenal singer. When he sang “Old Man River” he just blew me away. What a powerful, deep voice with an insane range. I think this was a safe choice of song, since he sounds a lot like Barry anyway, but there is only one Barry White and when you sing his songs, you’re putting yourself in direct comparison to Barry. At that point, it’s going to appear a bit Karaoke, even if you sing it perfectly, to take on a Barry song, you need to be able to somehow sing it better, or come up with a unique arrangement as to not be in direct comparison to a legend like Barry White. I was really disappointed because Larry should have been able to win that competition. He lost to a chicken chaser, country music singer. Hey, Kevin Skinner was a really great country singer, but he really moved forward based on his first song, which was incredible, but to tell the truth, every performance after that was really mediocre at best. He was just so good on his first performance and had that great “chicken chaser” story that everyone loves. Voters alway want to push for the person with the most pitiful story, helping them go from nothing to stardom, because it makes each voter feel like they had a part in changing that person’s life. I think if Larry would have picked a less challenging song, but blew it out of the stadium, he could have easily won. It’s too bad, because I really liked him best. It also wouldn’t have hurt if he had a better, sadder backstory because we all know that is what the producers want to push in your face.
I like his voice, But he didn't "nail it" and he wasn't in tune on some of the notes. He is not Barry White and never will be. He needs more practice. Close, but no cigar.
