Why 7 Eleven Is Closing Stores In America
In 2023 there were 12,592 7-Eleven stores across America, now there are only 9,492 left. How did America's biggest convenience store chain lose thousands of locations in only a year? A few of the reasons are due to rising costs of goods, changing market conditions and restructuring of the company. But that only scratches the surface!
7 eleven has been in almost every neighborhood across America for decades. But, in recent years, the company has faced significant challenges, leading to the closure of hundreds of stores across the United States and Canada. In 2024, 7-Eleven plans to shut down 272 more locations.

The closing of these stores in underserved neighborhoods will result in less places to rob and steal from.

I was devastated yesterday after I found out that my 7-11 that I always went to was going to close in two days. I don't know why they are closing since that location was pretty busy all throughout the day.

7-Eleven bought Speedway (gasoline) stations in 2021... but have not renamed them as 7-Eleven stores.

Here in deland Florida we had these convenience stores all over the place and yet 7-Eleven wants to charge top-of-the-line prices no wonder no one wants to go there

Crime and 7-Eleven often seem to go together, not mentioned in this detailed AI report. Private franchise owners have many complaints. Being open 24 hours when absolutely nobody comes in, except perhaps a robber, forced to show items that expire daily that nobody will buy, ending up going into the garbage or that's dinner for the owner. The appeal of 7-Eleven just isn't for customers and franchise owners, the $30 in the cash drawer worthy of a death sentence for the cashier.

I'm old enough to remember when they were an American-owned company, the Southland Corporation based out of Texas, and when they were open from 7AM-11PM. I also remember when they allowed some franchisees to change to 6AM-1AM operating hours and had a surge in sales.

7 Eleven does have a delivery app 7NOW here in the US. I don't know about Canada.😊 Not all stores are on it, I don't know how a store gets on the list. I really like their sandwichs and pizza.

Which stores are going to be closed in Houston and when?

One of the biggest glaring things I can think of is over-saturation. Similar to Starbucks at one time... In a lot of areas you'll see multiple 7 Elevens within close proximity of one another. That's probably one of the biggest reasons. Many other gas stations are doing similar things such as Sheetz, Royals Farms, Wawa etc...
