I’m the girl in the orange headscarf & sweater who thanked everyone. I had just had surgery 3 days before this event. I was so emotional, my brother & I couldn’t have asked for something better. ♥️ Thank you 🙏🏼!

It would be interesting to know about all the slave revolts in the U.S. The South suppressed most news about slave revolts.

Jeremy Jones poor choice of words and really, over all, this is an uneducated reply. they are most definitely not dumb thug slaves. they were people who were taken advantage of by society and were treated in ways i don’t believe would ever be tolerable. it is very painful just thinking of the possible ways of torture and humiliation their ancestors have gone through, without having a valid reason to be punished. this is a huge part of our history, so i hope you can learn to respect the past, look at it in an open-minded perspective, and also have respect for coloured people today.

This is beautiful, moving and empowering. Thank you! I used to provide public health care to people in LaPlace and other areas up-river from New Orleans. Whole families had multiple trailer homes packed on small parcels of land. Seeing this reminded me of the many people who had to choose between their medication and food and how many people in that area had cancer due to living in the shadows of chemical plants with poverty as a remnant of prior generations having their labor stolen in slavery. Reparations NOW!

Not only money makes greatness in somebody who overcomes such awful odds as did your extraordinary forebear. The spirit of collective, mutual aid is extremely important, and it is evident across the entire economic spectrum. Watch out for what extraordinary wealth can do. It can be a key component in the development of harmful social separation. And it can also foster wastefulness of various kinds, not to mention greed and other "sins". Now please, don't get my words twisted. It doesn't have to be that way. But look around and you'll see that extraordinary wealth can be connected to an increase in these kinds of ills ... and oftentimes is.

Yes bout time this story gets told. Love it. More..long documentary about these folks. a short piece doesn't do it justice. Justice deserves more in depth attention.

usually you only see confederate soldiers reenacting. nice to see the non-racist side
@SerPodrick
@SerPodrick 4 года назад
@Magpie your logic is that an emancipation march is racist because it's black people marching... Who else is to be emancipated under slavery? The confederates fought for to save slavery. It's clear which party sides with oppression

First of all, every historical event has sign beside the highway, close to were it happens. That said, reenacting is a way to teach others about what happened. The schools will not do it

Just let me thinking... In Europe we do memorials of history too. In Spain we recreate battles against the romans. Italians do the same against the french. The French agains the germans and so on. Historical displays are not a problem for us because is the past and also because you dont see many italian people in Spain nor french people in Italy and even if they are there they know its not their country, not their rules. USA has the same ethnic mixing in all the states (I'm not saying same proportion) and mainly the same laws. What should be a reason for unity becomes also a reason for unrest when commemorating the past

Very true. It’s still supposed to be a secret here. We did get a lot of support but also a lot of hate as well bc this isn’t just history; it’s still a mindset that exists for many people in 2021! I’m so grateful that Mr. Scott cared enough to bring this to life and that I was able to join in this reenactment. I would do it every year if it would help bring more awareness!
