The 10-foot-tall, 1,200-pound equine monument sits at the end of a corridor of trees in the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park of the Marine Corps Heritage Center in Triangle, Virginia.

Reckless was one of the guys. They fought together, they ate the same food, slept together, reckless is a war hero that saved the US Marines asses.

There are actually three statues of Reckless the War Horse ... the original is at Semper Fidelis Memorial Park at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia: A life-size bronze statue of Reckless stands at the end of a tree corridor in the park. The statue is accompanied by a list of her military decorations, including two Purple Hearts, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California: A life-size statue of Reckless stands outside the Pacific Views Event Center, depicting her carrying supplies through rough terrain. The statue was created by artist Jocelyn Russell and author Robin Hutton, and dedicated in 2016. Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky: A 1,000-pound bronze statue of Reckless was dedicated in 2018.

There are more that have been put up. One in Korea near where the battle happened. Here is the list of all the monuments There are five additional monuments to Sergeant Reckless around the country by artist Jocelyn Russell: Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA (October 26, 2016); Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY (May 12, 2018); National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Ft. Worth, TX (November 13, 2019), Barrington Hills Farm, Barrington Hills, IL (September 2019); and the World Equestrian Center, Ocala, FL (December 2020).[45][46] They are similar to the one located at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.[46] A memorial to Sergeant Reckless at Yeoncheon Gorangpogu History Park (Near Battlefield of Outpost Vegas Battle) was dedicated in 2018

Reckless was notorious for eating anything and everything like the campaign hat the Aussies gave her she promptly ate she also ate a couple of her blankets and in North Korea she went into a tent and ate a Marines poker chips and at the Marine Corps ball she didn't eat a piece of cake she sauntered over to the table and ate the whole cake

Absolutely one of my favorite stories/events/horses ever! And I love this video about it.. every time I watch a reaction to it (there aren't enough!) I get misty eyed when he mentions the Marines thinking they aren't going to see her again when they send her up the hill to deliver ammo during the fight.

You mentioned the varied asian diet. During the Korean War when locals would get treated by the army medics, they couldn't give the Koreans any inoculations because the inoculations were cultured in horse cells. The Koreans ate enough horse meat that they had the antigens in their blood streams and would have allergic reactions to the shots.

My gramps served in the Korean War in 1951 with the 1st Marine division. He earned a few Purple Hearts during his time, with one time waking up on Okinawa Japan after being blown up by a grenade lol. He’s 94 years old and wants to sit down for an “interview” with me so he can tell me about his time in combat, and time in the Marine Corps. I gotta ask him if he ever saw/met Staff Sgt reckless. Staff Sgt reckless out ranks my gramps by one promotion 😂

5:39 Yeah, that isn't a rifle in the conventional sense, it is firing a 75mm artillery shell, and what makes it recoilless is the fact that the back end of the gun is open, so the same blast force that pushes the shell out the muzzle is also blowing back out of the breech. The danger area behind the gun where no one can stand without being hurt is 50 meters. It is like standing next to a bomb. 27:01 You laugh, but the joke is, that isn't a joke.

There are two statues (that I'm aware of) dedicated to SSgt. Reckless..... The first, which you can probably visit, is located at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, located in Triangle, Virginia. The second monument dedicated to SSgt. Reckless is located on Camp Pendleton, which could be problematic for visitation. As Camp Pendleton is an active Marine Corps installation, visitation by the public is typically restricted. Also, if you're foreign nationals visiting from other countries, visitation could prove difficult just from a security and vetting concern. Unless you personally know someone on Camp Pendleton who can sponsor you onto the base for a visit, you may not have much luck. The National Museum of the Marine Corps, though, is open to everyone. Hope that helps.
