My Japanese mother came to the U.S. in 1959. She shopped for groceries by looking at the pictures on the cans and boxes. She taught herself to read from the Bible, Webster's dictionary, and the National Enquirer (no joke). She went to church every Sunday (her father was a Shinto priest). She NEVER taught us Japanese because we WEREN'T Japanese! She passed the U.S. Citizen's test, a perfect score, She STOOD for the National Anthem and put her hand over her heart EVERY time! She voted EVERY time! She was subject to racism, but NEVER from a WW2 Veteran. She NEVER took a handout, not even an unemployment check! She worked harder than anyone I know. She opened a restaurant providing jobs for legal people. She paid her taxes! Military, police officers, and firefighters had discounts (free on their birthday). When she passed away, we found out she left strict instructions were she wanted to be laid to rest; her country! The United States of America!
ROBOTLIX GAMING ...I know for sure the Mark Dice interview portion was true! It is actually worse than this! No child left behind policy has lowered the education...at least in Iowa. In Iowa you don't have to send your kid to school...you don't have to home school them. You or someone you know can teach them whatever you as a parent feel is necessary! Could be basket weaving...plant growing...WHATEVER you want. No requirements! So sad!
and i heard they have done away with teaching cursive writing , drivers ed , and some shop classes . in my school we had wood shop , metal shop,body shop , electric shop . and that was our regular school , not a vocational school . ( which was LCJVS , located 10 miles away .)
My class (graduating this year) was the last, as far I can tell, to be taught cursive and it was never really developed beyond the letters themselves. It's going to be really funny in about a decade when the kids of today are fresh out of college and can't sign their own name.
54321blader damn, I was homeschooled up till the 7th grade, and my mother was the best damn teacher I ever had. Taught me more stuff than these useless teachers today ever will. I know a lot about our country, I can write cursive, and all that stuff. It really sucks that I have to grow up with this (de)generation

I'm going to say that America's education problem have less to do with the schools themselves, and more with the parents. I went to public school like just about everybody else, and I still manage to school everyone on things I've learned in school, that's because I had parents that made spend hours a day studying and doing homework. The kids that are "stupid" generally had parents that didn't give a fuck about their child's future and never bothered to enforce discipline on them. Just my observations.
I ask my son when he was 4 to 5 years old the stars and stripes question. Now just remember something. When you ask a child questions like that they keep it real. My son went and looked at the flag on our flag pole and played and looked and came back in. His answer was 100 stars and 26 stripes. You probably know what he did to get that answer. Lol
Don't worry everyone the federal government is still hard at work pouring money on the problem so now all kids have laptops, calculators and google to think for them, and they're hard at work confusing them about reality and gender and so.....
