American Airlines 1974 jingle single

This here little piece of audio is of a vinyl single that was distributed to American Airlines employees announcing the new 'Doing What We Do Best' campaign in 1974. Side one is the chairman at the time making the announcement and side two is the longer version of the jingle itself.
Normally with these type of videos, there's a long shot of the label, but this record had NOTHING fancy about it, thus I'm slapping in a small gallery of the airlines' old (and older) logo. May it rest in peace.
On a personal note, I had this record for freakin' decades! I don't know why I wanted this record, but I do remember that I charmed my Mom's friends, who were obviously AA employees, to give it to me. This was a good 5 to 6 years before I got into airline memorabilia.
Annoying side note: I remember a Facebook video of a 3 minute radio aircheck of a radio station near LAX operated by PSA airlines named KPSA. If anybody out there has a much larger extract out there, please let me know.
Thanks for putting up with this obscure culture fanboy behavior,
Don-O

Classy airline back then. Made us all proud to be employees.

"Customers don't write to American Airlines about its terminals or airplanes, they write about its people." Bob Crandall was a leader who appreciated his employees and customers.

Wasn't he the one who created the B-scale wages that caused airline staff to suffer lower salaries?
@kathleenjohnson9847
@kathleenjohnson9847 11 месяцев назад
No, he didn't cause the airline staff to suffer because the new scale wages did not apply to them. He did save AA from bankruptcy; how many airlines went out of business during this time frame? I can think of about five.

I love flying far and wide to see the land I love, Climb to find the blue horizion, the sun and sky above! It's my flight and I know it's right and I just smile inside From the sunrise in the East to the sunset in the West We're American Airlines, doin' what we do best! Fly...... Doin' what we do best - American Airlines Doin' what we do best - American Airlines Doin' what we do best - American Airlines, Fly Away! Nothin like the sun and mornin' light from high up in the sky Or when the shadows climb the mountains and evening turns to night So many things to say and do together you and I From the sunrise in the East to the sunset in the West We're American Airlines, Doin' What We Do Best!

Nobody ever says thanks to you guys enough. So thanks. I know you are there to protect and help us, and too often taken for granted. Love this song, and wish Crandall was still around.

"Hello - this is Bob Crandall" - what a voice!!! What man!!!

Crandall was a ruthless business man, who didn't care if he made any new friends, but he knew how to run an airline, and run it well. Unfortunately, you can't say the same for the AA of today. From it's planes, to it's people, it's different, and not in a good way

I watched -- yes, watched this jingle performed live at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in the Las Vegas Convention Center in 1981. It was performed by a band and chorus as part of a medley of hit jingles produced by Dallas-based TM Productions, which at the time was one of the leading jingle producers in the country. Thomas Dawes wrote and Tom Merriman produced this iconic and memorable jingle for American Airlines. TM's credits include ad campaigns for Levi's, Budweiser, Coca-Cola, and The Gap among many other clients.

I retired from American and they are a great company to work for. I think i still have this record in my AA Memories Collection. Met Mr. Crandall a few times and he was always fair and a gentleman...and very smart also.

Watch it sadly as I was lucky enough to fly for them. Unfortunately their sexist attitudes required me to resign when I got married. 1968

American would still be the finest airline in the world if Bob Crandall was now the CEO instead of the downhill slide they've experienced under the present regime. I lived in Phoenix in the 80s & almost every time I flew it was on American.

There are only 2 or 3 :60 spots with this music on YT; "Stewardess/Cat/Girl" and "Lots of Crew" are the two most prominent.
