We lost the late and great Bobby Rydell yesterday in Philadelphia what a talent. Me the Masterblaster still play all his great songs on my internet radio show Classic Soul RIP.
I’m thinking Rita Pavone, a huge Elvis fan who came to Nashville and met Elvis who gave her a painting that was done of him. Rita was recording in studio nearby with Brenda Lee , who told her Elvis was next door recording and Rita so excited ran over and people tried to prevent her from meeting Elvis but he turned around , saw her and said” I know you, seen you on tv, you’re Rita Pavone” and gave her the painting which she treasures to this day.
I do think Bobby Rydell had the superior vocals, but Frankie Avalon sure had some great tunes and knew how to put them over turning them into smash hits.
Patricia Carli and of course Gigliola Cinquetti were the winner with "Non ho l’età". That was also the 1st priced song at the ESC in 1964 in Kopenhagen.
