My goal is to one day have 1/4 of the amount of confidence that Ricky has in this movie. To be able to just introduce myself to my new middle-aged next door neighbor during a crowded business function and then asking them if they want to go get high outside.
I was actually so stoned last night when I was watching this, I started laughing uncontrollably when he said "this is Ricky Fitts". I couldn't quit laughing for like an hour. No idea why it was funny but it sure was.
Wow you guys smoke marijuana cigarettes?! Holyshit you're so cool can I be your friend? What a rare occurrence to "do marijuana" & then watch a movie? Bro pls tell me more, so fascinating did you get like so stoned? Like so high from doing the marijuana? Wow bro pls tell more....
Berlios Mate, go and try it for yourself if you're so curious. Being sarcastic behind a fucken keyboard doesn't make you cool, nor offensive either. You sound like a turd to me....... Now its time for you to reply with your wannabe comedian dickhead bullshit. Go your hardest pal.
The framing of the scene actually is a very strong metaphor. When the two guys are smoking pot outside, it shows the temporary escape for Lester from his own boring and stressed daily life represented by the building with a small door. He then reluctantly obliges to his wife's order to return to the building, showing his return to the routines that he resented so much. Just terrific.
"The people quitting their jobs like that now seem like the least crazy among us. Insanity is spending a life doing a job you hate in a place devoid of beauty to buy things to impress people who don't really care about you."
“What if I told you insane is working for fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years… at the end of which, they tell you to piss off? Ending up in some retirement village … hoping to die before suffering the indignity of not making it to the toilet on time. Wouldn’t you consider that to be insane?”
00:11 I don't know about anyone else, but I can SO relate to Lester when he hears that fake, forced, overly loud laughter. I feel the same way. If I had my choice, I would ditch the crowd with their high energy fake laughter and just chill out getting high with Ricky Fitts.
I love how Ricky was just trying to get it in good with their daughter. I mean that was his soul purpose. And his reasoning being that he was just curious about her and that he found her interesting. I think that (plus he's looks) is what's so appealing about him. Makes me wonder if when he no longer finds her interesting, would he just leave her? He seems to have a pretty cold side... though I think that side of him can be explained by his 18 year relationship with his father.
great fucking movie. I know a guy like this in my unit. he's care free on every level, sleeps with different women every weekend and is unphased and composed regardless if he is being hassled by superiors. the more you hangout with friends like that the more you want to be like them and mold their traits to your personality in your shape and form, then you become free and uplifted confidence. or perhaps unwillingly you do as such without even knowing until you catch it later on. i was really introverted at first and now im gradually growing out of it. that timidness hinders untapped qualities and confidence. surrounding yourself with friends like that bring out the best in you. life's too short to be a mental midget on edge over stupid shit
I feel like the guy next door can almost see Lester is going through a mid life crisis and he's bored out his fuckin mind, so he indulges him into the life of getting high and being free. Hes a smooth operator.
Wow. Two incredibly hot guys getting lit up, showing they don't care for the posers and people of authority and laughing through the whole thing... cinematic PERFECTION.
I was an adolescent/teenager in the early thru mid 90s. I don't remember the question "do you party" meaning the same thing as "do you want to smoke weed"
Several homosexual implications here 1. the ambigious word "party" 2. the boss's "doing whatever you are doing" statement 3. Lester inquiring about Ricky's age 4. the wife's suspicious look
@mishkalaka lol, sorry for the confusion. I was just pondering. Especially at the moment. He's just a very interesting character. I always think about why people are and where they are headed.
Getting caught by the wife is way worse than a student being caught by a teacher. Especially a ball-busting wife who will emasculate you like Carolyn did with Lester.
Granted I lifted this from IMDB so take that for what you will, but I read that Spacey genuinely broke character there and Wes Bentley was trying hard not to crack as well but it worked for the scene. Like I said it’s the internet so could be false.
@@gameroftheyear1000I could absolutely believe it. Bening is really comical as she opens that door all "drunk" w/messed up hair and Wes's smile after Spacey falls apart looks ridiculously convincing like he's barely containing his laughter!
I often cringe at the way movies portray weed, it’s always exaggerated and pretentious. This movie, however, did it PERFECTLY. As a stoner, I can relate to this so well. Even little details like the smile on Ricky’s face when Lester loses it. Ricky, being the experienced smoker, can just maintain composure while the other dude is just laughing his ass off. Brilliantly done
Ethan Diffey you don't get it. He is saying Ghost Rider is a horrible movie and very forgettable, so when they see the Ricky Fits actor in another movie, no one will ever say that is the bad guy from Ghost Rider.
When Ricky's talking to their parents and says " I go to school wth your daughter" and Kevin says "with Jane?" And Ricky says "yeah. Jane..." kind of dreamy I thought it was so cute :')
He's collecting information, isn't he? Like when he repeats Lester's name after learning it for the first time. Then he spells the name Jane in flame outside her house, as I do all the time when trying to impress a girl. Never fails
I remember watching this movie when it first came out, working in a video store when I was 17. It's still one of my all time favorites. It opened my mind to a whole new way of thinking. Absolutely fantastic flick.
@@timebandito4278 ohhhh i know and you new right from the get go that they were going to hook up hahaha like when they go through the drive through and shes like i think we deserve a little junk food after the workout we just had ... like ohhhh shit shes got balls then boom she gets busted buy her husband
My boss talked to me like this and my inner Ricky Fitts came out to play. I was prepared to get fired on the spot..one week later..I was given a raise. Don't be afraid to drown..
