It's like the bullies in Disney movies lol Fun fact I like to throw out every time someone brings up the soccer/football thing: "Soccer" actually comes from a British college newspaper. At the time, there were several different rule sets for football in use. "Association football" ended up being the most popular and was eventually adapted into the international standard ruleset, but a couple other variants that are still around today are Celtic football and Rugby football. This one sports editor for a college newspaper liked to abbreviate things in a British schoolboy slang style, so he'd call Association football "soccer" and Rugby football "ruggers".
