I can't believe that I've never seen this channel before. You've articulated the game so that the rules are easily understood. Great content. Subscribed.
Thanks man, that’s awesome feedback - thanks for the support, it’s much appreciated. The channel has only been going a couple of weeks, so there will be more content on the way 👍👍
Great battle reports, this is the second one I’ve watched. I’ve played many games now and love the system. You do it great justice. One small comment, only horse artillery get the free unlimber move. We made this mistake originally and have corrected since. Look forward to your next one.
Cheers Richard and thanks for the support, it’s much appreciated 👍🏻 good shout on the unlimbering, i have changed recently since getting hold of the Glory Hallelujah supplement as the epic rules state you can move and unlimber on page 12 under Firefights and that’s not specific to Horse Artillery but it does state horse in GH, so I’m guessing it was a misprint and will go with that for future 👍🏻
Enjoyable game to watch, you make playing solo like is it very easy to do. The only thing that I would add will be more table space for tactical movements around the flack and such. Great Job, keep them coming.
Thanks for the support Alejandro, it’s much appreciated. I mention on one of my other videos that I’ll be “upscaling” my next battle report to a 6x4 table, as I have probably reached the limit of army size for 4 x 4 games, albeit it does show you can get a good size and fun game at this scale on a 4 x 4 table 👍🏻👍🏻
Great play-through and good job painting all those minis (I've not yet mustered the motivation to paint mine). I personally found the change from inches to centimeters to make the proximity of units distracting. I think I'll stick with inches so the units aren't quite so on top of each other visually. I also raised an eyebrow at how exposed - and often in the front - the artillery units were. That aside, loved the video and I hope to see more!
Thanks for the comments Aric and I think that’s one of the great things about Black Powder games, in that you can adapt to your set up and preferences 👍. The artillery point is an interesting one, as they’re definitely more vulnerable to assault when I’m playing Napoleonic battles, but with the ACW rule about requiring a command roll to charge and -2 modifier if attacking to the front, it makes it quite difficult to get at them! Whether that’s historically accurate is debatable 😂
Just watched this through and very good battle report - Figures look great too - hope you make more of these as a great watch - some interesting additional rules for the ACW that sound promising (whipped, moving through units etc) - I am toying with the idea of ACW epic and like the scale and set up of the warlord stuff as easy to get onto a relatively small table - is this effectively the Gettysburg starter set you've got on the table?
Hi there and firstly thanks for the supportive comments, much appreciated. I’m really enjoying playing at this scale, as been mainly playing 28mm for years and wanted to get into ACW. I got the original starter set over a year ago from the initial release, but I think the Gettysburg one is similar, albeit probably better as you get more variety in terms of units - both are good VFM in my opinion (and I have no ties to Warlord!). I’ve still got about 8 Regiments to do from the starter set I got, but have purchased some of the mixed brigade boxes, so I’ve got some cavalry, Zouaves and skirmishers on the painting table hopefully ready soon to record the next battle report. Hope that helps and best of luck
I enjoy the playthrough a lot - but oh my, it buggers me that the artillery is leading the attack. There's something terribly wrong with that in a historical context of the period of black powder. That appears to be a huge flaw in the game rules.
Thanks for the feedback Anders. I’ve found that you can be quite flexible with BP rules, so you can always add you’re own level of historical context in terms of how you use and deploy units if that’s what you enjoy in a game. Appreciate the support 👍🏻👍🏻
Just curious as to what size your large command bases are? I'll be getting the Gettysburg battle set here soon and want to use larger bases like you did for my Corps/Division commanders.
Hi there, yea I discuss this in the other video I’ve posted - I use 60mm for the Commander in Chief and then I’ve got some 40mm for the Divisional Commanders, albeit not in the battle report - hope that helps
Hi Richard, probably unlikely for the time being, as it’s the style of batrep I’m aiming to produce, but appreciate you taking the time to provide some feedback.
Hi there, see attached from Warlord Games website - it’s part of their epic scenery range - road or rivers store.warlordgames.com/products/black-powder-epic-battles-roads-scenery-pack?_pos=1&_sid=615087335&_ss=r Hope that helps
Hi there. This is scenario 1 from the supplement you get with the starter set, so it’s fairly even in terms of both sides apart from the Union having a slight advantage on artillery. The Epic miniatures range has been expanded, so there’s Cavalry, Zouaves and Skirmisher sprues out now, which I’m working through, so that will give games more flavour. There’s other unit rules as well that adds further dimension to it which wasn’t used in this battle report. Hope that helps 👍🏻
