The series was filmed in 2004 ... So happy Fred got to fulfill his childhood dream of driving a steam locomotive in his last year . He sadly passed away in November 2004 a few months after filming . A legend sadly missed but still bringing smiles to many . 🙂

When you've finished watching this series, I'm sure you would both be extremely moved by a video called "Fred Dibnah - A Final Goodbye: The Day Bolton Stood Still". As the title suggests, it's all about Fred's funeral and how Bolton paid a truly fitting tribute to the man.

Fred always makes me smile, really enjoying watching these with you both. After this I highly recommend Fred Dibnah's Building Of Britain, each episode focuses on different areas of craftmanship, engineering, and architecture within Great Britain. From cathedrals and castles, to manor houses and canals, Fred takes us through how it was all done. His knowledge is next level.

The ornate wood carvings are for pattern making in cast iron and plaster moldings. Even in Victorian times there were not enough craftsmen to build everything out of actual wood, so for structural purposes and practicality fancy work tables for instance were made of cast iron using wood patterns, and plaster molds for picture frames etc

When you come to the UK, you must visit the Black Country museum, where a lot of Peaky Blinders was filmed.

2 sundays ago I had a day out on the Bluebell Railway. A beautiful sunday roast dinner in a fully restored Pullman Dining Car ( Fingall ) and then a quick nip over to the other side of the tracks for a run on the normal steam chuffer :) 5 1/2 blissful hours on Steam trains, a perfect sunday. Seriously recommended !

There are some great heritage railways in Gwynedd, North Wales where you can do a sort of tour of the region by steam train. The Conwy Valley Railway Museum at Betws-Y-Coed, the Ffestiniog Railway and Welsh Highland Railway all give a nice tour through the mountains and villages of the region. Starting from Betws-Y-Coed on the edge of the national park, down to Blaenau Ffestiniog, connecting with the WHR at Porthmadog and finishing at Caernarfon. After that, just a few miles south is the Llanberis Lake Railway, and finally the Snowdon Mountain Railway goes from Llanberis, right to the top of Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales. Along the routes are a number of mediaeval castles that are worth a visit too... Particularly Dolwyddelan, Caernarfon, Dinas Emrys (in Beddgelert) and Dolbadarn (in Llanberis). It's the sort of trip you could devote two or three days to at least.

I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time and love watching your reactions. As a now retired Engineer Fred Dibnah is one of my long time heroes and I live just a few miles from Fred's home town of Bolton. All that you have seen to date, from his time as a Steeplejack, to this final tour 'Made in Britain', really shows the rise and decline of Britains industrial and engineering history from the start of the Industrial Revolution to the recent past. His knowledge, expertise and boundless enthusiasm have captured the hearts and minds of many thousands of people, young and old, and I hope all his television series are archived for future generations. A big thanks to you both for all your reactions, please keep up the excellent reviews.

This episode really reminded me of my own childhood. In primary (elementary) school my best friend lived just down the street from me at number 260 (we were at number 278). His Dad was a contractor who quickly befriended my Dad and introduced him to some of his hobbies. Among other things he was active in the Canterbury Steam Preservation Society, and I spent many weekends out at McCleans Island where inside the large shed a group of men looked after several steam locomotives and a traction engine while us kids used the muscle powered hand car to ferry us to adventure around a couple of kilometers of track. On days when a locomotive was out with a couple of passenger cars I sometimes collected passenger's tickets. According to RU-vid the CSPS is still a thing in the town where I grew up (Christchurch, New Zealand.) I haven't been back to NZ in nearly 20 years, but that makes me happy!

Oh man! That 9F locomotive of the Somerset & Dorset Railway at 22:48 I believe is Morning Star which was just sold by a client of mine and is now in Poole for the next phase of restoration. What a small world this is! Spencer, there are heritage railways all over the UK. The Swanage Railway near me in Dorset is wonderful, and runs both steam and diesel locomotives pulling passenger trains through the beautiful Dorset countryside.

The look of admiration and fascination in your face (Daniel) while watching things made by craftsmen makes my day. Your smile gives me hope there is still appreciation for the trades. Btw- I’m new to northern Virginia from Chicago, and love steam engines like you. The Cass Railway in WV, & the Western Maryland are two great local steam railways in our backyards. Both on my bucket list.

I've had a shot on a lathe, you need wrists of steel. I made a lovely spindle & a sort of cone shaped stand thing 😁 I love how when Fred is driving the Steam Train and says 'I'm enjoying this', you can see the 8 year old boy inside come out as his dream comes true.

We have the Watercress Line a few miles north of us, a heritage steam railway. We've been on the Real Ale Train (beer) and the dining train. We used to take the kids up to see Thomas the Tank Engine and some of his friends. Well worth a visit.

This is a wonderful moment in time. Fred got to spend time with everyone and everything he loved, Family, friends and steam driven toys. I live in the North east of England and there are a few steam engine places to visit and even get to ride in some of them. A wonderful little railway line in my part of the world is Tanfield Railway. It runs and restores engines and carriages and does regular trips up and down a 3 mile stretch of line that claims to be the oldest established railway line still in use. it's also just a few minutes away from Beamish Museum, a place Fred visits in this series.

Remember back in the 1990s, my brother rebuilt a sporty Fiat twin cam engine to fit into his old car. I heard him roar off with his new engine. A while later a very sick sounding car arrived back. He apparently had not checked how tight the oil filter was. So it fell off and dumped all the engine oil on the road while he was trying to race another car. He had to walk back and pick up the filter, then walked to a garage to buy some more oil. Before he could get home.

I also remember a young fellow buying his first shiny lttle Honda moped to learn on in the late 1990s. That he kept outside under a cover. He poo pooed me, when I told him to spray it with oil and regularly go over it with an oily rag. A couple of years later it was a complete rusty wreck, that he sold for next to nothing.

I don't know if you guys do film reactions/reviews, but if you do it's well worth watching Brassed Off. Set in the 80s around the end of mining in the UK. An incredibly emotional film that sums up the strengths and attitudes of the Northern Communities that had manned the industry. Number 85 on the British Film Insitute's top 100, stunning story + soundtrack - young Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite. Don't spoiler it, but it IS a sutnner of an insight into the Dibnah's world in a way.

Workers make the world go round. Not financiers, not owners, not managers, not advertising executives or insurence men, all the parasites who live on workers' backs. Society doesn't actually need them to keep running. This is why workers ultimately have the power in their hands to take over society if they decide to, because they know how to make everything and keep everything running, and without them no light goes on, no wheel turns, and nothing moves.
