Norfolk is so so overlooked, shadowed by Cornwall, Devon, Yorkshire..... But it is at least their equal... 95miles worth of beaches, a waterway system that is bigger than Venice, low cost of living.... One of the most important and largest cities (up to Medieval times) and loads and loads of countryside walks ....

Hi, this is our video you used for your Norfolk reaction! It was our first trip to Norfolk and we hadn't realised what an absolutely beautiful part of the country it is. This trip was July 2020 and anything indoors was still closed at this point, so I'd love to return now things have opened up - I feel like we only scratched the surface! Not surprised you had a lot of comments on the Norfolk Broads, what a place... a total highlight of our trip! Your video was so fun to watch, you guys are so enthusiastic, it's contagious (and I love how much you appreciated the ice cream boat, haha). Great video, tbh i live in Luton (grew up in Kent) only about 80 miles away and tbh i’ve never been there and knew nothing about it. Your video has completely opened my eyes and now i want to go! Have you done videos of the new forest or lake district or other places? So many i havent visited 😅

Sorry if this is aimed at the couple posting the reaction video rather than us, but in case it was us I will reply... we do have other UK videos although not the Lake District or New Forest at this point. If you're looking for Lake District content there is a channel I love called Suitcase Monkey who did a great Lake District video not too long ago, so perhaps give that a go. p.s. my dad also grew up in Kent!

I live near Norwich. It’s a beautiful small city with history on every corner. The whole of Norfolk and Suffolk abound with fine scenery, and is mostly ignored by overseas visitors. You’d love it!

I grew up in Lowestoft, Norwich was our "big city". I think Americans would love to see the castle, especially since its one of the oldest being Norman. I've always said East Anglia was basically the Netherlands, flat marsh land with lots of windmills lol.

Something you may have missed was at 7:03. There was a mention of The Lifeboats or what is known as The RNLI . It is something very British . It is a fleet of specialised boats. That a stationed all around the coast . Manned by volunteers who go out to ships in difficulty usually in very bad weather to save lives . It is independent of the government and relies only on donations . It's quite a story , look it up .

Hi from Norfolk! When I was growing up in London we always used to visit Norfolk every year for our summer holiday - yes it is a tourist area, but it is a large county and there is so much to do. When I moved here my Dad suggested that I change my username to Norfolk Broad. The day boats are really easy to drive/steer - and you drive on the right! I was waiting to see whether they showed the ice-cream boat lol. I walked past Norwich Castle twice this morning without even glancing up at it, and just after the second time Natasha suddenly popped into my head saying that we take these things for granted, so I turned around to look at it.

Somewhere else to visit in Norfolk is Sandringham House, one of the Queen's residences. It's where the Queen and the royal family usually celebrate Christmas. You can tour the extensive grounds of the estate on the back of a tractor and at certain times tour the actual house.

My favourite beach in Norfolk is Holkham. A huge expansive stretch of coast, it's also part of a nature reserve, so a great place for Ornithologists. Even on a busy day, you feel as if you have the beach to yourself.

Great choice. Holkham is the only place I have seen Shore Lark. Holkham Hall is nice, and there are some nice pubs for lunch too.

Resident of Norfolk, the Buttlands is where archers 🏹 were supposed to practice on a Sunday, in medieval times, another Town, Aylsham also retains the land. You ask about the roof of House on the Broads, its a thatched property, using Reed and ridge finished with sedge, other parts of UK used straw for thatching.

You will find a place called Butts, possibly just as a street name, in many towns and cities because it was such an important part of life. Archery practise was mandated by law from at least the 13th century until such time as bows were overtaken in warfare by gunpowder, and other games were actually banned to make sure all the men and boys of a certain age showed up.

Thanks, You saved me the trouble of explaining that. The Butts were the targets for the archers to shoot at. There were usually two, set opposite each other at the correct distance for shooting. The archers would stand near one, shoot at the other one, then retrieve their arrows and shoot back at the one they had just moved from. A butt was a type of barrel, and it may be that the archery targets took their name from that. (Possibly the round ends of butts were used as targets.) There is probably also some connection with phrases such as "the butt of all jokes", i.e. the target.

Many places in England have thatched roofs that are made from dried reeds... These roofs as well as being pretty are also fully weatherproof, cool in the summer and warm in the winter... Thatched roofs can be found on small cottages and really large houses... Love the Norfolk video... 🇺🇸 💞 🇺🇦 💞 🇬🇧

Having lived in Norfolk for 14 years, I can tell you that the sunsets can be absolutely incredible. A camera cannot do justice to them. One drawback is that almost where-ever you go, at some stage you will be stuck behind a tractor ! There are a lot of RAF airbases in this county and many had American aircraft and crews.

I live in Norwich, one of the main landmarks is the Castle which is Norman and sits prominently in the centre of the city, inside is a museum and the dungeons and battlements can be viewed. Norfolk is a great holiday destination with history, coastline and beautiful countryside, so many attractions to visit. In addition Elm Hill the cobbled street in Norwich with Tudor houses has been used in many films including 'Stardust' and more recently 'Jingle Jangle'.

I have friends who live in Cromer, which is also a seaside town in Norfolk. It has it all beaches, cobblestone streets, old fishermen's cottages AND one of the best fish and chip shops I've ever eaten in. It does takeaway but there's an eat in option, where you can sit, eat your food and look out at the sea. Also they have a pier with a theatre which still puts on an old fashioned seaside variety show. It's like stepping back into the 1950's. Just a couple of miles away there's Sheringham, which is the terminus for the North Norfolk Steam Railway., with the other end being the Georgian town of Holt. Just a word of warning, many parts of Norfolk are full of weekend homes for wealthy people and a lot of those pretty villages are almost empty during the week and over the winter, plus the house prices are horrendous, with locals being priced out of the market. When I last visited my friends they took me to this shop in Holt. It was like going into Fortune and Mason, with prices to match!

My husband is from Birmingham, I'm from Yorkshire, we currently live in Yorkshire. We however got married in Norfolk, Great Yarmouth. It's our "spiritual home" we both feel so much happier when we are there. It's a strange wave of homecoming when we get back there. We often travel to Wroxham to spend time on the water. So now we are house hunting in the Greater Yarmouth area... So we can finally call it home.

Lovely video of a beautiful part of Britain. Been a few years since I visited spending a week on a boating holiday. A real unwinding time. Has anyone suggested looking at the Isle of Wight? It's a lovely island off the Hampshire Coast in the South. For a small island it has a lot of stunning views and a variety of places to visit. It is like a history timeline. Take care ladies

I actually got a little emotional watching this one. The Norfolk Broads was my fathers favourite place on earth and as a family we must have had 15 holidays there over the years. We always rented a large boat for the week and I have so many memories of this wonderful place. The fishing is great and I learned to fish as a little kid on those broads, it ignited a passion that I still have to this day. On a nice summer day I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be, and if the weather turns.... well at least you will have an adventure!

The only thing I knew about this area before was it is where the Norfolk & Norwich Terriers are from! Dog breeds I love!! It is beautiful & loved it. How could you not love a place that has fish n' chips AND ice cream!! I LOVED the adorable seals!! Great show, Natasha & Debbie!!

The truth is, unless you live at the top of Scotland or the end of Cornwall, we all live within just a couple of hours of some amazing beautiful places. When the sun's out the UK is a glorious place. Scotland and Cornwall are stunning in themselves. There are many cities like Norwich that have a mediaeval center with cobbled streets like Wells Winchester Salisbury Exeter, which usually center around the cathedral close. And there are towns like Warwick Bakewell and Whitby that seem completely locked in a different time. You can't go wrong as you'll always be close by to something amazing to see.

I've reached a point at 60 years old where I can't be bothered with airports anymore so spend time when I can wandering around the UK and Ireland, there is so much to see and do, I stay off the motorway network as much as I can making the driving more interesting and either plan a route with hotels pre booked or just take a chance and roll up somewhere around 4pm, normally in Ireland I book first and last night hotels and then just see what I can find as I travel round, I shall be heading off to Ireland again in May hopefully.

I live there. Norwich is pronounced rhyming with porridge and is the most complete tutor city in England wthe over 30 medieval churches in the city. Other places are Walsingham, a medieval shrine. Thursford steam museum, several other broads - they are flooded medieval pits from peat digging - and several historic houses

The UK tides can surround you in minutes and if you are caught out it can be life threatening. I live in the North West of England on the coast of Morecambe Bay and that has claimed many lives over the years. Our lifeboat is constantly out saving people. 99% of the time it is tourists who underestimate the power of the sea. The worst one was in 2004 when 21 illegal chinese immigrants drowned whilst picking cockles. When you eventually come to the UK ladies always check the tide times if you are on the beach. Norfolk has a strong historical connection with the USAF. There were many many USAF airfields in Norfolk during WWII and their memory is kept alive at numerous locations around the county.

Hi. We love visiting Norfolk. It has many fantastic beaches. One of the best is Holkham Beach. If you visit in July and are very lucky, you might see the Queen's Household Cavalry riding on the beach and taking the horses in for a swim. They visit for a couple of weeks every year,but for security reasons don't advertise exactly when.

On thing they missed which I would suggest is the sheringham to Holt heritage railway in North Norfolk called the poppyline. Plus sheringham and Holt, although small are nice to look round aswell

Norwich was the second largest city in Britain, after London, before the Industrial Revolution. It also has more medieval churchs than any other city in Europe. They are all made from knapped (split) flint and are extremely beautiful.

I asked my wife what she wanted to do for her 30th birthday and she replied 'i want to be a pirate', so we hired one of the house boats for a few days and i can still remember waking up in the morning making a full english breakfast and watching nothing but the wildlife float by. My favorite holiday by a country mile.

Great reaction. I was born and raised in Norfolk in the market town of Fakenham (roughly ten miles south of Wells-Next-The Sea) and currently have lived in Norwich for 30 years. So this was a nice and somewhat bittersweet vid to see as it has been about 3 years since I've visited the coast (defo this year!). Great towns to visit include: Blakeney, Downham Market, Sheringham, Cromer - to name a few and there are so many others. Norwich castle is one of my favourite places to visit - a classic Norman style keep. The cathedral is also amazing, my favourite part there are the cloisters. So many great quiet places too, where you can enjoy the peace of nature with next to no modern sounds.

I went to the Norfolk broads as a kid with my family and had the most amazing and hilarious time, my dad saved me from falling into the waters after docking our boat but he threw me into a pile of nettles, I was in pain but the hilarity of the situation dulled the pain 🤣🤣

Reading to the west of London has St Mary Butts, an area outside the old "cathedral church" where men and boys had to practice their archery skills after Sunday service in Medieval times.

I’m from Norfolk and grew up just out side Norwich. I’m moving to the US in 10 weeks. I have recently started learning about the history of Norwich. Hidden ungrounded streets, secret churches hidden gardens and much more. Plus Norman Castle that dominates the Norwich sky line. Roman towns and prehistoric flint mines all can be found in Norfolk Norfolk is just a little bit bigger than Rhode

Aw, this was lovely to watch! I've lived here in North Norfolk all my life (28 years) and it never gets as much love as it deserves imo! So pleased you both liked what you saw too! :) If you ever do make your way to Norfolk, make a trip to Sheringham - it's a little coastal town that can get super busy with tourist's in the summer but it has the best ice cream shop called Ronaldo's! My family and I used to go to it all the time in the winter months (because its only a short drive from our house and ice cream is for all seasons!) to a point where the manager would give us extra for free, probably because we were the only ones crazy enough to be buying ice cream in the rain/snow! :D

If you look at the shot of the golden mile sands at just after 23 minutes out to sea you can just about make out the energy wind turbines, years ago there were lots of oil rigs, now replaced by the renewable turbines, we went about 7 years ago and counted over 50 of them out there 💕

I spent a week on the broads on Holiday in '94.. I'm from England's NW and we loved it, beautiful place, great fishing, friendly people.. renting a boat for the day and exploring the broads amazing adventures.., the memories..

The roofs you asked about were “Thatched”. The roof material is long straw which is thickly laid on the roof such that all rail water runs in a downward direction and it’s thickness gives it really good insulation. It was the almost original method to roof all houses until the 1800’s when manufactured tiles took over in the town and cities. It is now still a traditional form of country trade like basket weaving, charcoal making, horse shoeing etc. etc. Thatchers usually decorate the roofs with straw characters like pheasants. Thatching can last for years.

I'm from East Anglia (St. Ives, Huntingdonshire, now Cambridgeshire) - at 14:41, yes, that is a weeping willow. Much of East Anglia is fenland, so very wet. I remember, as a kid, digging in the garden and once you go 8-10" down, the soil changes into clay - scoop out a hollow and in a few minutes it fills with water; this is perfect for willows as they soak up enormous amounts of water. You'll find willows all over East Anglia because it's so well suited to them.

Amazing old villages and shops. Flowers everywhere so want to go. Fab beaches and I want to try that pirate golf course 😁. Great Yarmouth is a holiday destination. Norfolk is truly a beautiful county and has everything you could possibly want. You'd need to spend a lot of time there in order to see everything. A must see. This is also a very flat county and easy to get around. If you'd like a contrast, check out the Lake District in the county of Cumbria in the North West of England and is also known as Little Switzerland due to the numerous lakes and mountains , a must see also. You won't be disappointed.

The statue of Thomas Paine in Thetford, of whom I'm sure you are familiar, is worth a look for all Americans. It's rather good. I'm looking to move to mid-Norfolk soon. The county is mostly rural. If you ever visit, go to Grimes Graves - an ancient neolithic heritage site, not too much to look at but it is nearly 5,000 years old.

The water ways in Norfolk are called The broads. A great fishing area. Old Norfolk people have a strong accent.

I grew up in Norwich/Norfolk and as it was my home from age 2 to 33 I mostly took its charms for granted. I left Norfolk in '95 and now look back with warm nostalgia to a halcyon childhood spent there. I've not been back for nearly a decade, but part of me still considers it 'home' ...

Norfolk - Large Beaches (on low tide) the highest concentration of Round Tower Churches, Thatched Churches and quaint villages, Norwich has a Castle as well as a Cathedral, both well worth a visit.!

We live just south of Norfolk in Suffolk and often go there. Norfolk means North folk. and Suffolk means South folk. Check out Suffolk too, its so beautiful, especially where we live in Bury St Edmunds. Its full of history and check out the story of St Edmund too, its great.

And the region made up of these two counties plus Cambridgeshire together is called East Anglia because the ‘folk’ in question were the Angles, as in the Anglo Saxons. BTW in case you didn’t get a response on one of the quirks of pronouncing English place names, places ending with wick or wich unless the W is preceded by the letters D, K or T isn’t pronounced. So lots of the English will pronounce Dionne’s last name Warrick. And they generally pronounce the town mentioned in this video Norrich. But the town on the the Kent coast used to name that snack between two pieces of bread is pronounced just as it’s spelt - SandWich. So is Dickens’ PickWick Papers and the town of NantWich. And if you want to see lots of beautiful scenery from Cornwall and further dip your toes into British TV shows tune into Poldark, an excellent series based on the novels of Winston Graham set in 18th century Cornwall and filmed on location in stunning Cornwall.

Norwich is a great city to visit, lovely cathedral and a castle. The names of Norfolk villages are brilliant, check a map. pronunciation is fun too, Happisburgh is pronounced Haysbruh for instance. Great video BTW.

I live in North Norfolk (where this video is based). It's kinda like the Alabama of the UK, we have strong accents and people say we are inbred lol. Also it really is beautiful, Norwich is ancient and stunning city also

I'm so happy that you featured Norfolk. Yes it is a holiday destination but also a retirement destination. It is an expansive county with lots of beautiful walks and areas of natural beauty. I would say that a video like this can't capture the vastness of the skies which inspired artists like Constable. Another thing it can't capture is the vibe of the people. It is truly a beautiful place to be but it can also be quite narrow minded and not very diverse. For culture and diversity Norwich is the shining relief from what can be quite 'traditional'. There are so many beautiful places like Sheringham and Cromer on the North Norfolk coast but also less obvious hidden gems. Its a very dog friendly area too. Many pubs offer dog bowls of water and have areas where fog owners can sit. Because there are so many walks to take your dog!

The " Hippodrome Theatre " in Gt Yarmouth is a classic old time theatre . With steep rows of seating so where ever you sit you will see everything on the stage and seating goes right up to the edge of the stage so you feel you are part of the show . And then at the half time break in the show the centre of the stage is lowered to expose a pool where the cast will continue the show with water ballet and the actors leaping and diving . Especially during the pirate show .

Norwich is my home city, lived in Norfolk all my life. I love the place, my mate has 3 boats on the Norfolk Broads which we've just repaired 2 of them in time for the summer. Glad you liked Norfolk, take care.

East Anglia is easily my favorite place in England, It is rich in countryside, and has a wonderful climate With many beaches and seaside resorts, old'e villages and Pubs, If ever there is an area to visit it has to be East Anglia, PS We pronounce as Norfick and Suffick, I have lived here all my life, It's wonderful.

Loved this reaction, i live in Suffolk on the Norfolk border so all of this is close by, never been on the Norfolk broads though but would love to hire a boat now eating ice cream and would love to stay in one of those houses on the river! i have been to Hunstanton and loved it the sea looked turquoise when i went in summer and the sunsets were amazing, i saw those cute little round houses too. I would love you to react to Cornwall at some point even if its just music (but of course narration would be better to know what you are looking at) also neighbouring Devon and Dorset are lovely counties too, looking forward to Sunday's episode.

I’ve just stumbled onto this video of Norfolk and really enjoyed it, I live in the neighbouring county of Suffolk and want to add that the names are derived from a North Folk and South Folk (bit of useless info there for you) …. My late husband and I spent many good times boating on the Norfolk Broads (we had our own 35ft river cruiser) it really is a magical place especially early in the morning when there is a slight mist over the water and you can sit on the back of the boat with your morning cup of tea or coffee and just listen to the sounds of nature …. We were friendly with a lady who ran one of the ice cream boats and she would stop off alongside our boat and have a cup of tea with us (giving us a free ice cream as a thank you). Such fond memories ❤

I live in Norfolk in a tiny village in between two medieval market towns. If you do ever visit Norfolk, My wife and I would love to show you guys the sites. We also own a boat on the broads which were initially peat mines that have now filled with water over the centuries. Great video.

Norfolk is a very large county by UK standards and is like stepping back in time, mostly rural and no motorways (freeways). The Queen has a magnificent stately home at Sandringham about 10 miles west of Hunstanton. Norwich is pronounced nor-itch and is the only city in the county.

Considering the UK is a small geographical area, there are so many different landscapes etc. Norfolk is the flattest county in the UK, whereas so many are hilly and even,, as you go to Wales, and Scotland, have real mountains ! It is amazing !

During my time in the Royal Air Force I spent a lot of time in Norfolk and the one fact that amazed me was that the nearest Freeway if you lived in Norfolk was actually in Holland!

"puppies of the ocean". The German for seal is Seehund, literally sea-dog. You got it right, Natasha : that's how I see them too. We have seals a mile and a half from where we live on the North East Coast of England, in Northumberland, about 150 miles north of Norfolk (worth you ladies checking out).

Yay, I’d forgotten it was Wednesday, this is perfect pick-me-up And well done on the spot on pronunciation of my (almost) native Nottingham! I think you’d appreciate the Nottingham pub ‘Old Trip to Jerusalem’, it’s built into the caves under Nottingham Castle and is supposed to date back to 1189 - as the castle brewhouse at least that’s probably not far off. You can travel by boat from the Broads to much of the rest of the country too (might take a while though) but the canals and rivers connect so much of the country - they were the railroads before railroads existed on that scale. Would love if you could check out the Llangollen Canal too. For any wich places just miss out the w - a bit like the northeast US pronunciation of similar places - eg Greenwich Village is how we would say the place Greenwich in London. Might have to put together a narrated tour video of my town as there aren’t any out there with narration currently.

Norwich resident here. +1 on the dropping the w tip for pronunciations and last time I was in Nottingham (getting on for four years ago) I visited the Old Trip to Jerusalem (and a good few other old pubs) and can heartily recommend it; it's as mental as it sounds!

The roofs found in the Norfolk broads are called thatched roofs. They are made out of straw, and can be made into some very beautiful designs... You should look it up, I think you may find it interesting 😉

Actually the thatched roofs will have Norfolk Reeds and not straw. There are a number of Reed beds in the area for thatching material
