As an Australian I have to say that this was the best travelogue on Tasmanian I've seen . I suspect that the reason for this and also the reason you are normally bombarded with views of stereotypical harsh barren landscapes from Australia is that the videos are made by foreigners mostly Americans who like to dwell on the dramatic . Tasmania is one of the most beautiful places I've been on my 50 years of travelling , it has the cleanest air and water on the planet (a scientific fact) and some of the last unspoiled forests and wildlife anywhere . It should be noted that you would find the greener parts of Australia in every state and territory and most of our cities whether huge or small are greener than most cities in the world . The wombats wallabies kangaroos and koalas are just a few of the many cute freindly animals in Australia check out quokka, bilbys, sugergliders flying foxes ,etc , the fairy penguins you saw are found on the mainland also and I've seen them as far north as Port Stephens in NSW . There are over 10,000 beaches in Australia the vast majority of which are what you would call white but the beaches of Queensland's Whitsunday area include the actual whitest sand beaches in the world and are a sight not to be missed . I'm an old invalid which nothing better to do now that my travelling days are over so I love to watch channels like yours that take an interest in my beutiful country , and tend to waffle on to long in the comments in the hope they may help you in some small way .

I agree - it is a beautiful place! At least nowadays when physically travelling somewhere is difficult, or even no longer possible at all, we can do plenty of “virtual travel”, via TV programs and the internet. I’ve “been” to places from the comfort of my home that I couldn’t afford to or manage anymore - as well as some I wouldn’t go to even if I could! They are all interesting in their own way, but at someone else’s effort and expense. I’m just “along for the ride”, with little cost, no queues or long haul flights packed in economy, certainly no crowds or language barriers and often finding better views than I might manage on my own. Hope you long continue to enjoy “travelling” whichever way you can!

There are a couple of towns around Australia called Richmond, like the town Richmond in Tasmania where the guy is, and there’s also a suburb in Melbourne called Richmond as well which is along the coast of Melbourne as well.😊and yes I’m living in Tassie now and I was born in Sydney which was the first place that was invaded by the British government so they could take us naughty convicts to dump because they couldn’t get rid of us because of the American revolution and you guys wouldn’t let us get dumped in the United States which is completely understandable 😅😅😅since my cousin did our family tree and just as I suspected we’re descended from a convict who married a free woman.😉

All those beautiful, old, rare forests, that are growing vegetation from Pangaea times, and Gondwana, are now under threat as our state government over rules the public voice to harvest the old forests for short term economic gain. The people here have been fighting for decades to save our forests and rivers.

Hi ladies. One interesting thing not mentioned in the vid is the Huon Pine, a species of tree found only in Tasmania's far Southwest near Strahan. (A town shown in the vid) It exists nowhere else on the planet. There are living species of this massive tree that are 2000 to 3000 years old, and some of the fallen timber is way older. A stand of trees (a continuous living group) was discovered to have existed for over 10,500 years. This amazing tree thrives in a wet environment but does not rot due to natural oils in the timber. The Huon pine was used extensively in early shipbuilding, and was almost logged to extinction, but patches survived. Of course, it is now protected. We hope you are enjoying a peek at our great country. Cheers.

You are so luck you were sent this look at Tassie. I live in Burnie and have found most the time we don't get mentioned in RU-vid clips. The majority show Launceston, Hobart, Cradle Mountain and all the areas around those places. This clip has given a more inclusive veiw of Tasmania. Naturally, not everything is included but it does give a good taster for what the state has to offer. Tasmania is 68, 401 square kilometres (42502 square miles). Our population is around 527,000.

You could spend several years touring Tasmania and Australia. Tasmania was once connected to the mainland by a land bridge to Victoria. Much of the landscape is similar to what we have in southern Victoria, including wombats, koalas, little penguins, wallabies, echidnas (pronounced e-kid-na), and much, much more. Hobart is the destination of the world-famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race held at the end of the year. It is also the base for the Antarctic supply ship. A most wonderful state to be in (excuse the pun).

Born and bred in Tassie. I'm even descended from a marine (and family) on the first fleet to Hobart in 1804! Winter usually sees Mt Wellington with a dusting of snow, but this vid was at the tail end of the season heading into Spring. Snow is more in the Central Highlands. It's a pity they didn't head inland a bit more to historical Georgian towns and villages like Oatlands, Evendale, Ross etc. Even just googling them brings up beautiful pictures.

My wife and I spent three weeks travelling around Tasmania in our campervan in October/November 2022. My wife's first time in Tassie, my third. Due to weather, we didn't get to see the west coast but did a loop from Devonport, Launceston to Hobart, from Hobart up the east coast to St Helens, across to Stanley, then back to Devonport to board the Spirit of Tasmania back to the mainland. We'll be back.

That was our preferred route from Melbourne to the Gold Coast. We loved the cold crisp Winter weather with occasional snow and then the drive over to South Grafton through the sub tropical rain forest. Setting off from Armidale prepared for snow and a couple of hours later stripping off for 20+ C on the northern NSW coast!

Tasmania is such an amazing place with an amazing history. I grew up in Ulverstone 30 minutes east of Burnie on the Coast. Wallabies are a smaller relative of the kangaroo. The rain forests are actually called temperate rainforest rather than tropical rain forests. It used to be connected via a land bridge to the mainland of Australia ( thousands of years ago ) Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world. Weather patterns continue uninterrupted from the east coast of south america to the west coast of Tasmania. Tasmania has a population of approx 500,000 and is the second oldest colony of Australia. Sydney first then Hobart. As a convict if you were bad you went to sydney if you were really bad you got sent to Tasmania. The West coast of Tasmania has rain most of the year round. Cradle Mountain is exceptional and the overland track takes roughly 6 days to walk ( Dad and I actually ran it on year and did it in 3.5 days ). Most tourists come for a week or so and that is not enough!! So many more places to see and so many more things to do. A rental property will cost you approx $270.00 usd per week on a 6 - 12 month lease. If you girls ever decide to visit Australia the wife and I would be more than happy to show you around the state of Victoria and Tasmania.

There are Cool-temperate, Warm-temperate, Dry, & Subtropical, tropical Rainforests in Australia. Tasmania has 4 different types of cool-temperate rainforest - and is by far the best example of that kind of lush, misty, crispy-fresh-air type of forest. On the other hand, if you headed north for about three & a half thousand kilometres, you’d find yourself in the Wet Tropics Rainforest in Queensland, part of the oldest continually surviving tropical rainforest anywhere. The area includes the Daintree Rainforest, where along some stretches of coastline the tropical forest grows right down to the edge of the ocean. It’s over 135 million years old - the oldest rainforest in the world. Definitely the best place in the country for soft, hot, wet, tropical-air forest, where you can actually imagine you saw a pterodactyl fly overhead.

Great video, Natasha and Debbie. In answer to some of your questions: Richmond Football Club is based in an inner city suburb of Melbourne, rather than the town in Tasmania. The AFL started as the Victorian Football League (VFL). For most of its existence, this was a 12 team competition made up of 11 Melbourne suburban teams plus Geelong, a city about 75 km (45 miles) from Melbourne. Because of it's inner city origins, fierce rivalries developed between supporter of the clubs. It became part of people's identity. When you met a new kid at school, the first question would be "What's your name?" and the second would be "Who do you barrack (root - that term has a different, altogether ruder meaning in Australia) for?". There are still 9 Melbourne teams (Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Essendon, Hawthorn, St Kilda). Two of the Melbourne teams moved interstate (Fitzroy Lions merged with the Brisbane Bears to become Brisbane Lions) and South Melbourne moved to Sydney. Additional teams were added from Western Australia (West Coast and Fremantle), South Australia (Adelaide and Port Adelaide), Queensland (Gold Coast) and New South Wales (Greater Western Sydney) to make up the 18 team AFL competition. Tasmania has a long and proud history of Australian rules football and has produced many champions of VFL/AFL football but does not have a team of its own in the AFL. This has led to much resentment and there are serious moves now to get a team in the AFL. It has some mainly economic hurdles to overcome to achieve this. Another noted Aussie rules region of Australia that is not represented in the AFL is the Northern Territory, which also has a long history of playing the game and producing some extremely talented players, particularly indigenous players. AUD3000 is about USD 2000 (AUD1 is worth about USD0.67). Pretty sure the bird in their garden was a willy wagtail. Tassie is cool and wet. In 2021, there was 1,378 mm (54") average rainfall in the state. They get 80% of their electricity from hydro. Yes, the birds on Maria Island were geese (Cape Barren Geese). Yes, wombats are cute. An unusual fact: there poo is cuboidal. The scary animal you may have been thinking of is Tasmanian Devils. They are noisy and aggressive (like in the cartoons), but i actually think they are cute too. No, the bit in Queenstown was not winter. They said they went to Burnie in December, which is our summer. The spiky animal was an echidna, one of two montremes (egg-laying mammals) in the world, the other being the platypus. It occupies an ecological niche a bit like a hedgehog and mainly eats ants and worms. Tasmania is Australia's smallest state, at 68,401 km^2 (26,410 mi^2), closest in size to West Virginia (62,756 km^2 or 24,230 mi^2). Its population is 541,000, closets to Wyoming (576,000). You could do a reasonable lap of Tassie, hitting all the highlights, in about 2 weeks. But of course, you could easily spend much longer if you had the time. Tassie doesn't have all the fossils. There are great fossil sites throughout Australia. Australia has many of the oldest fossils in the world. There are also "living fossils": stromatolites that look like lumps of rock, but are actually ancient bacterial mats, in WA and SA.

This season starts this Thursday night 16th March 2023, Richmond vs Carlton at the 'G with an expected crowd of 85,000-90,000 for an opening game. Hi I"m a tasmanian and live in Burnie (the penguins come ashore on the beach which is situated at the end of the main street in Burnie) though this video shows a lot of places in Tasmania and only briefly there was a lot of great places that they missed in this video ie Tasman peninsula where they do a spectaculer cruise and port Arther penal settlement ,Arther river area with beautiful beachs ,also the west coast is very different to the east coast and the highlands area is different again . The MONA museum which they showed only breifly is one of the best in the world owned privately by an eccentric art collecter the building itself is amazing , I have spent a lot of time bush walking in Tasmania where we have over 100 walks of all varieties and the most spectacular scenery what you seen in the video is only a small taste of the scenery available ,the south west corner of tasmania is a protected park area and except for one road into a hydro power station the only access is via foot ,boat or plane you can spend weeks walking in this area . There is a lot more to see in Tassie ( what locals call this island) you can spend a month continuously travelling here and not see it all note - Tassie is a big island , lived here all my life still haven't seen it all and I have travelled around it alot.

I loved The Wall in The Wilderness which was an art work in progress when I visited comprising panel after panel of wood carving. Truly amazing. We found the accommodation fairly reasonable everywhere we went with Strahan being in the upper $ range but well worth the 5 days we spent there checking out the harbour, the river and the rain forest and the rack and pinion railway through the rain forest mountains. Never pass up the food offerings because of the $cost because the quality of the food cannot be surpassed (except maybe could be equaled in Scotland), and NO I am not a Tasmanian and I have travelled the World and the quality of the food was that good. ❤️ you girls 👋

Greetings from Hobart, Tasmania! I moved here from the mainland approx 10 yrs ago. It really is beautiful and very green. There are only about 250,000 people in Hobart area, so it’s quite small and a quiet, slow pace of life compared to much of the mainland. Twice I’ve almost hit a kangaroo/wallaby with my car in the suburbs only 5-10 mins from the city centre. My first night visiting Burnie, I was lucky enough to see the Little Penguins (formerly called Fairy Penguins) come out from the sea into their burrows at dusk. Sooo cute! I haven’t seen much of Tassie due to health reasons, but what I have seen is stunning. The video was good but it really is even more beautiful in person. Cataract Gorge in Launceston is only a few minutes from town and it so amazing, with peacocks roaming around freely near the cafe area. I’ve also lived in Brisbane in Queensland and Newcastle in New South Wales and both are also great places. The beaches and coastline of Newcastle are amazing and many are right next to the city centre. As you can tell, I could rave about these places for ages 😂 Hope you guys get to make it all the way over here one day and you survive the incredibly loooong plane ride!
