I love the album *American Football* but I prefer the predecessor, *American Football.* Of course, neither can top the classic sound of *American Football.*
I love that cut at 16:54 to the bassist and drummer playing while the kids are singing. The look of pride and happiness is so earnest and so great to see.
Futball* and the name Football America used to call their national sport was their way at attempting to dominate the world's football (which they failed miserably) and show how much America doesn't respect the rest of the world & its largest, most popular sport, Football, Futsal, or Futbol. Sadly America was so stubborn we decided to not change the name of our relatively new sport but instead change the name Football to Soccer.
Does anyone realizes just how talented their bassist is? He deserves to be recongized more often. I thought he was lame af untill i realized.. He plays so Tight and solid but insanely colorful note choice. (He actually sat down and PUT THOUGHT IN TO THE BASSLINES. they are super simple yet so damn effective with his colorful note choices. He has insanely good technique. His left and right hands are both relaxed. His freting technuique is so stretched out comfortable an the neck and he is so proper that no. Notes sound so consistent. it kills No Fret buzz. No bad tone. His picking technuique is so proffesional and constistent which fixes some notes sticking out in the mix tone. Keepin mathy time signatures on the back of his hand.. when he has to keep time forstrange minor fills.. dynamics in note length and note onterval was very proffesional. A + for holding back. Great use of your diffrent picking dynamics. and picking lenghts Hes no flee but he is no averge .
I KNOW I especially love in "Every Wave To Ever Rise" he keeps it simple from the start but then just changes a LITTLE bit during Elizabeth's verse and it changes the entire song mostly with different context to each instrument with the reharmonization.
That's Nate Kinsella! He's an epic musician all around. He's also an incredible drummer and organ/piano player. Check out his drumming in Make Believe. Totally different band, but really highlights his playing.
At this point I’ve heard Never Meant so many times that I don’t care that they didn’t play it. Also, the new album is absolutely incredible so it’s a win either way.
Their whole current career is built on Never Meant, let's not kid ourselves. I love most of their stuff, don't get me wrong, but if it weren't for Never Meant they would be a somewhat forgotten band only appreciated by die hard 90s emo fans.
@@edunogues23 My personal favorite is "Stay Home," but we can't deny that they are sort of the one hit wonder of obscure bands. I'm so happy they are touring again, but the reason they are able to do that at all is because of "Never Meant."
I just keep coming back to this set. their latest album has been witness of all that ive been through these last 2 years. I dont know what it is, but their lyrics to me show a lot of nostalgia and sadness while their music makes me hopeful for the future.
I watched this like 30 times before they released it on RU-vid and it’s one of the most gorgeous things In the entire fucking world they’ve aged wonderfully and their music is so close to my heart
I'm finishing work and studying, very tired.... And i saw this...I'm listening not expecting this awesome and emotionally powerful concert, i'm crying and i feel awake again!! I want to see my friends, share a beer with them I'm sure now that i have to tell her that i love her
Xylophonist stole the show, didn't think it could get any better. THen the drummer started playing trumpet, it was the best part, best ever. Then there was the man on the ganzá. Then Mike Kinsella was awsome, sublime, totally stole the show. It couldn't be topped. Then, oh! a melodica! Then the little person's chorus came in, and it was next level. Exatctly like on the record! Just totally stole the show. This
Just went to check npr tiny desk to see if anyone interesting has popped up in the past few weeks and they casually drop my favorite emo band in the mix
God, thank you for this. I didn't even know I was missing this. I bought their debut years and years ago. Guess I need to track this one down now. But first I need to get my heart out of my throat.
Mike Kinsella came to the bar I worked at after a gig once. I wanted to buy him a shot, he asked for Malort. :/ But hey, I took a shot with Mike Kinsella.
Crazy this was recommended the same day I had been just thinking about when I saw Mike kinsella/Owen in a small club in SLC, UT back in 2005ish (i think). I went with a few of my good buddies. We had a band called pelvic nations 😂 and these guys influenced us a lot, particularly the unique guitar sound and the unconventional rhythms/riffs of American football, as well as capn jazz, owls, and Joan of Arc. Our two guitar players/lead singers would come up with cools riffs that would have strange time signatures and I didn’t know what to call it then but it would have probably been considered in the Math Rock genre. (The guitar players were brothers and also started another band called Cowboys Aren’t Indians that seems to have a faithful internet cult following. Look them up. Great stuff)
That scene influenced so many bands. Over here in the UK there were so many great and interesting emo math rock bands, shout outs to unit ama spy v spy Nathaniel green Jesus years Stapleton. Writing this from my family car in my vans slip on's and skinny jeans
Zachary Pursley yeah man they’re awesome. A unique sound and feel. It’s cool to see random people talk about my buddies that I grew up hanging out and playing backyard concerts with lol
Yeeeeeeeeesssssss!!!!!!!!! The whole new CD is a treat (just like their previous ones)! I need to see these guys live with a drink in my hand, relaxed! That line "the king of all alone"... damn!
@Get Real Politics yeah, need to check their schedule so I can plan a trip! I'm not going to riot Fest this year, so maybe I can do one of their shows instead!
I'm pretty sure that's the same guy they had a couple years back when I saw them. Everyone in the audience was gassing him up after someone asked a question about him. He got a round of applause as he left the stage.
