Man I’m not going to lie... this was a hard one to get through. I was so distracted by the message and the visuals that I felt I couldn’t do more than just spread the message. We don’t hear about anything like this in the states. So sad. RIP to those who lost their lives!

They didn’t put fireproof insulation through the whole building to make it cheaper for the government so the whole building went up in flames so they checked most of the high-rise flats in England and only about 15% of them had heat fireproof insulation in the whole country
@kyleleehufnagel
@kyleleehufnagel 3 года назад
Not only that, the reason they even “renovated” and put a metal cladding (siding) on the building was because the rich neighborhoods around it thought it was an eyesore. The cladding was the very thing that caused the fast spread of flame and prevented the water from fire trucks from quenching the fire because it created a barrier that wicked away the water but trapped in the heat. It was never approved by engineers and safety specialists to use on a building that tall that also only had a single stairway down and no fire suppression system, but since it was 5000£ cheaper the inspector of the council houses rubber stamped it. The kicker was the cladding also released cyanide gas when heated to a certain temperature, so it was an incredible death trap. No one was prosecuted and they tried to blame the fire chief, which they did successfully because the rich own all media in the UK. It’s only going to keep happening. Fuck the rich.

Others have already explained this a bit, but it is worth emphasising just how negligent and uncaring the entire establishment were and how culpable they are for this. Residents of Grenfell had warned for years about a lack of fire safety, with the residents association presciently writing 'will it take a loss if life before you (the tenant management organisation, run by the local council) listen?' As well as the council, the manufacturers of the materials used to clad the tower falsified fire safety tests for their products. The response after the fire then compounded this litany of failure, with the government doing very little to support or re-house survivors. The prime minister at the time, Theresa May, wouldn't even meet with families at first. The government still, 4 years later, hasn't fully solved the issue of similar building materials being in place, and has left individual homeowners to foot the huge cost of fixing it, even though it is clear as day that the building companies & contractors are responsible. There were demonstrations immediately after this happened, which I attended. I have never felt as angry. The Grenfell fire wasn't set by the government or anything like that, but it was allowed to happen, because the lives of those living there meant so little to anyone in power. They were worth less than £320,000 to the council (that was the difference in cost between the flammable cladding material they used during renovation and the cost of safe materials). They were worth less than the cost of re-housing families to the government. They were worth less than the profit to be made by selling inferior, unsafe materials to the likes of Arconic and other manufacturers. It was indifference at a lethal level. Never forget.

Hour of suhoor = around 3am before the sunrises. The grenfell tower fire happened in ramadan and there were mulims outside the tower from the nearby mosque to botthles of water trying to help reduce the fire and running in to take people out from the fire. A lot of the people inside the tower were also migrants so they passed away at a important religious time of the night.

Grenfell tower was basically a run down tower block in a poor area that was an eyesore to the rich folks living over the road. So they paid to have it covered in cheap highly flammable material to make it more 'attractive', the building wasn't safe so when a small fridge fire broke out the fire spread rapidly and consumed the building

The government did nothing. They knew the building was unsafe but didn’t care to save money. And for all the people who survived some are still not homed. And was no reparation it’s actually grim how they tried to swipe it under the rug. The survivors still haven’t been fully homed or payed for all that was lost.

Basically Grenfell tower is in an extremely poor area of London that just happens to be within one of the richest areas of the City the building exterior was renovated because the wealthy areas that surround it considered it an eyesore, they used the cheapest material allowed (non fireproof cladding) to save money. The buildings fire codes were not updated to reflect this building, residents of the building (mostly working class poor/ethnic minorities) had been complaing about this potential fire hazard for over 3 years. They have still not had any justice, the government and the local council have been trying to blame the fire brigade, but the reality is that over the last 10 years the rightwing conservative government in the UK had massively cut budgets to public services including the fire brigade, furthermore the conservative government swore they'd rehouse the survivors and still havn't rehoused all of them years later. To compound the insanity the project manager who over saw the construction wasn't qualified he was just the son of the owner of the company, and yet no one's gone to jail, no one has even been charged.

You mentioned Ahmed the other song by Lowkey regarding the number of women and children who drowned on the beaches in Greece, on Lesvos to be exact. I was there. I was heavily involved with the refugee boat rescues in 2016 on Lesvos. We lost 3,500 to drowning in that year alone the majority of them women and children. It still breaks my heart to this day that I could not do more to help save more lives when I was there. It was quite literally - heartbreaking and many nights I would go to sleep in the back of my od van that I drove to Greece in from the United Kingdom sobbing my eyes out. All 6ft 6 of me crying like a baby at all of the horrors I and many other volunteers witnessed on those beaches.

The grenfell tower was full of working class people but the building was situated in a rich part of London. So the theory goes that the fire was started to destroy the building so they could filter out the poor people and bring more rich residents in high rise apartments.

No but the cladding that accelerated the fires and basically made it impossible for fire fighters to respond was only installed because there were many complaints by local rich residents about how "ugly" the building looked

The fire was so bad due to a renovation to make it ‘more efficient’ but also it was considered an eyesore by the more affluent residents who didn’t like the look of the building so it was clad in a material which was extremely flammable in order to cut costs. In these flats there is a ‘stay in place’ order when a fire breaks out as people should be safe in their own flat due to fire doors and thick walls but there were failures in the construction and renovation that made this a terrible idea. A completely unnecessary loss of life and homes and no-one held accountable. Disgusting.

4 years later and residents of Grenfell are still without accommodation. The residents repeatedly complained that the tower block was unsafe, the sprinkler system didn't work etc. The building was covered in flammable cladding to make the building more aesthetically pleasing for the millionaires in the next few streets. In London you can have a street full of multimillionaires backing on to poverty. The tower was full of working class people and immigrants. 72 people officially died but locals believe it was in to 100s which is why there are people still missing.

Grenfell was insulated with extremely flammable materials, the line "did they die for us?" is referring to the checks on other High Rise buildings in the UK after the fire, most of which had the same materials. It took such a major tragedy for people to realise the government had cut serious corners with public safety.

The cladding they used to cover the outside of the building was not up to standard in terms of fire safety, the builders and MPs knew about this but done it to save money, approximately saved £5000, one of the main reasons the cladding was used in the first place is because this building in situated within viewing distance of a very affluent area in London, part of the Kensington and Chelsea borough I believe. The cladding was used because the standing tower was considered an eye-sore. There were many petitions and marches to hold people accountable but non have so far worked. Listen/React to Dave - Question Time he touches on this within the song

Great reaction bro. Basically, the residence raised concerns regarding the safety of the building a number of times and were never listened too. The building happened to be by a rich area but grenfell was occupied by the poor. They were trying to get rid of the building anyway as wasn’t a good sight for the rich. But then the building turned out to have the wrong type of cladding which made the fire spread quicker than it usually would. Some say it was on purpose as the rich people didn’t like the sight of the building and wanted to get rid of tower blocks. But either way, someone in the government signed off a dangerous cladding to be used on these building and the maintenance of the building and concerns were never upheld. The fire service were also under question as they were trying to tell people escaping from the building to get back in their rooms as it will be safer, but turned out that they would have escaped if that order wasn’t given

The local council changed the facade of Grenfell tower with some cheap highly flammable materials. They did this to make the tower look nicer to the richer folk over the road. The residents complained about the disrepair of the building, the safety issues and electrical issues but were ignored. Rather than making the building safe, they made it look more palatable because over the road is one of the richest parts of London. Once the fire hit, the material they used on the facade went up in flames like it was paper. This was a death by negligence for the sake of saving a small amount of money.

Lowkey lived nearby. The people in the video are residents and those in the pictures are those who are still 'missing' and not acknowledged as being dead as their bodies were never found. There were many under the radar in the building or visiting people. It took about 20 minutes for the whole building to be engulfed in flames. The council cut so many corners - cladding they knew wasn't safe, windows that were not fire resistant, fire doors not up to scratch, no sprinklers and alarms not working. But the rich people got to look at a nicer building!!! Look at Stormy's Brit cover of this in 2020 and Dave's Black Brits cover of this.

It happened in Philadelphia in January of 2022 where 13 people including 8 kids died in an apartment dwelling and again a week later in Bronx ny where 19 people including 9 kids died. It happened in buffalo ny a few years back where several house fires DUE TO LANDLORD LAZINESS AND GREED AND FAILURE TO ACT AND IMPROVE ON SAFETY, took out whole families. It’s horrifying to know our governments world wide will just allow people to burn to death in poor dangerous substandard housing and not enforce laws meant to prevent such unnecessary tragedies.

One of the biggest problems with Grenfell, is that there is an official death toll, which is disgusting enough, but there could be more than 100 more people that died in it that are un-accounted for And years later, no one has been held responsible for the fact the cladding (which they knew wasnt safe but was cheaper) added to the building for nothing more that coporate greed :(

Grenfell tower was cheap made tower, bad isolation etc etc. Bad fire system, so the goverment choose the cheapest company that cut Corners, the trial is still going on, someone will go down.

@Cliff Beats iirc the siding that was used on the building was extremely flammable and this was known by the company (thats where the conspiracy part comes from). It was added to reduce emissions (insulation = less heaters run) and I think a large number of buildings had this flammable siding added so all the buildings are death traps just waiting for a spark... the anger your hearing comes from the officials denying the dead and saying they prolly skipped town or yadayada. Since you said 9/11 - imagine if officials insisted that only a couple people were in the towers and we had all these families asking where loved ones are and they're told they left town or ran away? Woo I get angry at this and I don't know any of these people! Edit: I DID warn you awhile back this one was a public service song, but the story needs to be heard and shared. 💞

@@darrencurtis2668 @Darren Curtis I'd compare Immortal to Lowkey in regards to lyrical content, advocacy, and truth. Same fish, different pond. He recently featured on the R.A rugged man's song "Who do we trust?" It's worth a listen just to hear him rhyme "antidisestablishmentarianism". Brother Ali - Uncle Sam Goddamn and Vinnie Paz - End of Days are two really great conscious rap songs too. Vinnie does step over the conspiracy line for me sometimes but that may be due to ignorance on my part. 💞Love to you and yours.

People actually claimed that they live there when they didn’t and collected all the charity money and benefits that were given to the people that actually live there I think they went to jail as well I think I was like 16 of them taking all the funding and charity money for the families they probably didn’t even live in London
