Jessica Lange has said that in all her years of acting, Angela was one of her favorites to act with. You can totally tell how much fun they are having in this scene.
@@chrisez3188 it won't let me comment the article, Google Jessica lange least favourite ahs. I love fiona goode wish they Brought her back for apocalypse, even just for a scene.
*”THE HAMMER WANTS THE NAAAAAILS MAGIC! OH THAT IS RICH!”* - Boy that is one loaded, *powerful* line. Angela Bassett & Jessica Lange...two of Hollywood’s best, *TOP TIER* actresses. ❤️
What Fiona never truly realized is that Laveau lived there by choice, rather than circumstance. She was powerful and influential enough to have the whole country if she wanted, but she chose to reside in the 9th Ward where she could actively protect her people.
***** Fiona only seemed more powerful because it didn't take much energy to utilize her magic. Conversely, while many of Leveau's spells required time and concentration, she was able to harness near-godlike power. Remember, it was Marie Laveau vs the *entire* coven.
Near godlike yes, but only when she was practising her rituals. Fiona, a supreme capable of the seven wonders, is simply more powerful because she doesn't need preparation for her magic. Look at Hanks attack on the salon, Fiona could have just set him on fire or convinced him to pull the trigger on himself, Laveau is a powerful witch but that scene shows who has more power, in fact she only survived because of Queenie, a Salem witch. Still I love the counter play between Fiona and Marie here, so classy and badass!
Mel1lvar How is she not more powerful when she's immortal? Speaks to LOAs, and let's not forget that Fiona and Cordelia turned to her for powerful magic. The coven doesn't even have a fertility spell😂😂😂. And Marie is IMMORTAL
Mel1lvar Fiona was just as vulnerable, especially considering her health was failing. The reason Laveau was scared was because in seeing the bullet wound her, she realized she was at the helm of Papa Lagba's wrath for not fulfilling his request (no innocent soul = no immortality), and in that moment she was not able to rectify.
Bruh. 7 years ago???😭😭 I remember being in high school watching this every week as each new episode came on and was HOOKED. I can’t believe time goes by so fast. I’m 24 now 😩😭😭😭.
this season was about racism, mothers and daughters, women owning up to their power, and lots and lots of death and blood, but i gotta say - it's kind of sweet that an Immortal Voodoo Queen didn't up and leave for some isolated tropical island somewhere and instead chose to stay as a member of her community in a place where women in her community would regularly congregate. that's really nice that she cared enough for her people to remain close to them and look after them.
It's such a blow because she's coming at Marie's work, basically saying she uses too much spray on her clients and on her own hair it's kind of shady. All the while Mary cannot respond to this because she has to take orders from Fiona as she is her customer and that moment
Angela Basset is a stunning looking woman! She is extremely unique! And Jessica Lange is not just another blond haired actress, she is also an exceptional woman! This scene is pure gold.
I would say she’s always had golden or strawberry blond hair I never classified her with the blonde like Nicole Kidman Elisabeth moss cate blancet Kate winslet. Resse Witherspoon they have blond hair Jessica has like golden hair .
Voodoo & Witches.....what could possibly go wrong. The tea and shade in this scene is SO strong...I love both of them! “Your kind and my kind...” I love how this season covered racism..in the light of it in general and also in the covens and voodoo tribes. Really shows the diversity.
This has to be one of the best scene ever written. The exchange of words between two strong-minded women is just so intense. Great respect for both women.
+Ronaldo Sosa i know im saying shes an Oscar Nominee and Jessica Oscar winner their both titled Oscars regardless. even though Angela SHOULDVE won that year but least she was nominated
Tim Thomas Angela is perfect for an actress, but entertainment industry can't deal with black actress even they absolutely talented. Beyonce Knowles & Adelle 👈 that's a hint
Jack K Because it goes back to when she said “our two kinds have been going after each other for centuries,(more like a nail going after a hammer) hell the whole conversation was basically her saying the white witches were better then the black voodoo queens but then at the end she was asking for something
The best scene ever to grace television. So many profound truths in this dialogue and it was beautifully acted. This is one of those rare moments where chemistry and magic meet.
Voodoo Queen agreed. The last season I don’t know if you watched but when they showed her Angela Bassett walk in like that in front of Satan was soooo bad ass. I stood up and clapped because they came as one to destroy him❤️👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
It's interesting how the white witches (Ill get to Queenie in a second) can do things automatically with less effort yet still can't do all the things the POC/voodoo practitioners can do (they just require more time to do more powerful things). It's a metaphor I didn't notice until just now, which is interesting....very much like oppressed vs privileged in real life in a lot of ways. **For Queenie--she has a bit of both obviously and she has to go through the hardest thing to use her witch powers (cause some sort of harm to herself). Also on point.
REBECKA MULLARD THE GLAMAZON VIKING voodoo is not satanic and da real devil’s r ur kind dats a fact it Explains a lot of stuff in da bible 🤴🏿💯 GENESIS 25:25
@@rebeckamullardtheglamazonv3623 Vodou is the magic of healing and protection. Witchcraft is the magic of preservation and protection. Satanism is the philosophy of spiritual freedom. None of those are evil nor in the realm of black magic.
0:56 - "I think when say good black, don't crack they're not wrong. What's your secret?" "What's yours? Your manicure cost more than my rent." I'm so inlove with this scene, both of them just praising each other. You know damn well they will end up teaming together 💅
She learn the secrets of the other side from a 2000 yr old line of Shamans.... Necromancy..... SHE gave it to your girls of Salem..... A gift repaid with betrayal....Please....Classic
I doubt that there is any such thing as a hair style that Angela Bassett can't pull off! I loved her in the hair wraps that she wore during a few of the episodes too. The hair wrap gave her that classic Marie Laveau look that I envisioned her having, before the Coven season premiered. It was great to see an amazing, talented, beautiful actress playing one of America's most interesting historical figures!
For any one interested, this was a master class of acting. Any scene with Angela & Jessica together instantly elevated the entire season. Could do a whole show with these two.
I clearly remember watching this scene in class back in 12th grade. My classmates and I were learning about the Salem Witch Trials and my teacher was real cool and we’d all watch Coven together after our work was finished. He recorded the episodes for us and we were hooked! We’d even debate over who the next Supreme would be, haha. Great memories!
"No more spray!" 😍Ugh what an icon. Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson. What a cast! The chemistry and acting were brilliant this season.
Why is everybody saying that. Can't we just talk about that they are both amazing. And Jessica Lange decide to go it's not like lady Gaga asked to replace her.
Marie Laveau is stunning! And her sass! Her accent, her expression, her body language, everything is perfect. She's THE woman. The dynamic between these two powerful women is the best thing ever happened in Coven, probably in the whole AHS seasons.
This season might have had some of the best dialogue and acting in television history. The show never met this stride of excellence again. Angela Besset is incredibly talented and delivers some of the best acting hollywood has, yet somehow when she's given characters this strong and well crafted, she takes her gifts to even greater leaps and murders the role so perfectly you understand no other performer could do that character justice but her.
@@baronbaron1887 I actually came around, and can say that I like Apocalypse! It was never that I thought that it was a bad season. I just had hopes and expectations that were in conflict with what the season ended up being. And that's on me, not Ryan Murphy, nor the other cast members and writers.
@@baronbaron1887 Did you like Freakshow? It had it's moments, for sure. And I have actually grown to appreciate it more after re-watching it than I did while it was on. I imagine that when I re-watching Apocalypse, I will enjoy it even more that I already did. I also admit that I haven't even seen all of Cult. It's on my list of things watch this Winter when we are snowed in.
@@gabrieladerre2862 cult is shit. But yes I liked all first 4 seasons. Hotel was good but it became too nasty for me lmao. I'm glad you came around . Apocalypse could have been longer to be honest, but it was great. I wish Zoe got more time though, she helped a lot during coven.
@@baronbaron1887 What context are you using nasty to describe here? The gore, or the sex? I haven't watched Hotel since it's original run. So there's a lot that I have likely forgotten as all that I recall is the basic outline/story. I'm really not here for excessive and unnecessary gore. It's fine when it suits the scene/subject/story.. For instance, I have no problem with how graphic it all is in shows like The Walking Dead. Because let's face it, zombies in themselves are gross and messy. But in a lot of shows and films it seems that they just use it just to do so.. And when the "scariest* part of a show or film is the blood and gore, I usually end up unimpressed. And unbothered..
The level of acting these two are delivering in this one scene is acting at its best. Both fully understood embraced and became the characters. Just enough to keep you invested and keep you locked in the scene and moment
I loved this whole season. Metaphorically speaking to women harnessing their own personal power, while simultaneously working together because they are that much more stronger when they do so
I love Kathy Bates and she was most definitely deserving of the Emmy she won, but I really wish they had given the Emmy to Angela instead. Angela is one of the finest actresses of our time and she's never been given the recognition she deserves. And we all know that's because she's black. I still can't believe that they managed to get so many talented actresses in one season. Angela, Jessica, Frances and Kathy... it can't possibly get any better.
Sue Shaleh I'm sorry but Kathy got that emmy fair & square her embodiment of that monster lalurie was uncanny and should be the premisee of all inspiring actors to learn what acting really is. Angela did that as well but let's not downgrade Kathy acted her ass of like no other this seasons
Aaron Williams...Kathy was good but Angela was better. Her scenes with Bates and Lange were epic, and let's not even mention her ritual scenes. Glorious acting with insane depth and she should have gotten it over Bates.
a purely thrilling interaction between two legendary equals who didn't have to be physically powerful to get their point across (yet they still are) , but their biting wit and hatred for each other plays off really well in this scene. i always come back to this just to watch two amazing actors duke it out just by undercutting each other and by making their threats so credible, I was certain that Angela Bassett and Jessica Lange were born to play these parts (can you even imagine anyone else playing Marie or Fiona other than these two?) honestly Ryan Murphy peaked on Coven in terms of writing and constructing a story of and about strong women (Feud was just heavy-handed in symbolism and also just completely factually inaccurate)
