Thanks to the person that refreshed this - I had never seen it. Knew Debra was VC for American/Canadian Idol, but never kmnew of this performance. Debra has always had a special place in my eyes - not only being a fellow Clevelander, same age, same school district, but appreciated her talents, kindness, and willingness to talk to many Manilow fans over the years. Debra has always been a class act and I was so moved with the reaction she had from the audience and especially the 10 finalists. She was extremely surprised and touched - it was a great tribute to her from all those who had experienced her teaching skills and bringing out the best in everyone for their performances. I realize this was many years ago - but in the past week - others have acknowledged her many skills. Byrd - you were and are the Best! Rest in peace while you sing with the angels.

I love the respect and appreciation being shown to Byrd, in this video, for all of her hard work and dedication to the contestants.

Wonderful!! I had the pleasure of working with Debra Bird when she was the choral director for Barry Manilow's UK tours. My choir sang at the Cardiff (Wales, UK) gigs. She was impressed by their singing in rehearsal so much so that she asked me if I was married!!!!! Ah, if only..............

Barry Manilow got her the job. She got her start with HIM. This song was produced and arranged by Barry. Debra has worked with Barry, toured with him since 1975. I could tell you when she was on the road with him and when she wasn't. She is usually in the studio with him on every album he has ever released. Can you fathom HOW many concerts she has performed in with him and been his foremost backup singer, if not vocal director for the other musicians and singers onstage with him? She's a legend. She WAS around when Dionne Warwick recorded this song written by Richard Kerr and Wil Jennings.

I was first introduced to Debra Byrd singing back up for Patti Austin on a live album I believe from the early 90's.Patti is introducing the band on the last song of the album and Debra does her thing.The song is called "Laugh or cry",someone posted a live version also.

She is downright amazing and such a beautiful human being! 😊 She happens to be my vocal coach too. I was 17 when I started with her. It's almost been 2 years with her. And she'll be my coach forever. She always has the greatest tips. I love her and her voice.

Can't compare to Dionne Warwick's Many online performances of this fantastic song but it's unfair to expect that she could.

Yuk! Sometimes less is more. Vocally she overdid it & was all over the place. Dionne sang this song so simply & yet still gave it “life” & power.
