This is probably THE BEST MOMENT on live television ever !!!
Harry Connick Jr, American Idol XIII judges throw shade at in-house mentor Randy Jackson for not helping out the contestants to do their best and gave audiences the least favorite performance night ever this season. Randy should've learned something from Jimmy Iovine from past seasons and fix the current problem that they are having especially THE BAND who doesnt catch up with contestants.

I am so glad Harry put Randy in his place. I hate how Randy is never genuine or honest with his comments… Such a tool. Thank God for Harry..

Randy, a man without a backbone. First, he tried to play "the nice guy", a mentor trying to defend his pupils from cruel judges who are being too harsh - clearly hoping for the idols and the audience to take his side and hail him as a hero. Realizing that after Harry's articulate and genuine speech that that's not going to happen, he went back on his words and started shouting how the judges are right to call it as it is, harsh as it may be. I lost the tiny fragment of respect I had left for him after watching this.

Harry is the real one. The guy is a master musician. Nobody in that room even comes close to the level of dedication and hard work he has put into his craft. If he tells you something about music, listen.

Connick has more talent than that whole room combined. Watch his early stuff, the jazz standards, just his piano playing and voice.

well ... maybe not that much ... but he's certainly talented enough that he doesn't have to kiss ass and BS to speak expertly on music. HE KNOWS what he speaks about.

I disagree... Harry IS a talent but a talent of a different kind. He is running parallel to the others. Given his resume with the genre of music he's proficient in and his technical knowledge may be the problem. He's a high level jazz musician who looks at the prominent style of music that this show highlights through a different lense than everyone else... It is about mathematics, theory, and technique rather than "free-flow" or "feeling". His style is regimented and disciplined. Most of the acts and judges that partake in the show are NOT college grads in music. They like what they see and hear based on emotional content and drive in the music & performances. And, I think he KNOWS THIS and asserts his will and judges performance based on the knowledge that he is more advanced, and thus he his more critical with respect to his pride in his stature.
@MaxRevitt

@@dethbolt000 I think the thing you're missing here is that when Harry judges, he's coming from a place of taking a style, and working through all the influences that bring that style to 'now', very accurately and very concisely. Jazz is one of the hardest dishes to cook, so maybe he's going OTT for what the average listener wants. However, 'Free-flow' and 'feeling', they're real things, but within a genre they are VERY specific - and if you aren't taking all of the ingredients of that genre and working it into your recipe - that's not idiomatic, and so not as good as it could be.
@dethbolt000
@dethbolt000 3 года назад
@@MaxRevitt I get you... I, myself am a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, piano/keys, drums, & programming) and music producer/director of various genres for over 30 years.... Jazz is the calculus of music. My point is that with a high-resolution perspective due to possessing such intricate and complex knowledge of music, it is easy to fall into being overly critical and annoyingly meticulous in judgement of other artists who are grounded in more "laymen's styles" of music. Not everyone knows what a E7b5/b9/#11 is in a genre that uses basic triads like in pop-music or, even less, like in most rock & metal that is usually based predominantly around root-fifth power-chords. In essence, it's like explaining the chemical reaction of vinegar and baking soda to average people that "when acetic acid comes in contact with a base such as sodium bicarbonate -- which is a base, a violent and effervescent reaction occurs that basically cancels the electro-chemical potential of both substances individually that in the end renders the resultant combination neutral"... Meaning, it just too much for a regular joe to process, much more, to understand. People don't like looking like fool or made to be perceived as ignorant especially when their level of mastership and understanding pertaining to their own craft is not so complex.

I saw Harry Connick perform in Toronto: 1) His piano playing is off the charts. 2) His singing is incredible. 3) He has leading-man looks and possesses genuine stage charisma. In short, he can wipe the floor with anybody in that room.

I saw Harry at the Kennedy Center here in DC. My favorite part was when he gave a 10-minute introduction to the different styles of piano playing from some of the jazz legends...Ellington, Waller, Peterson, etc. These were all musicians i loved, but it was the first time i heard a musician discuss and showcase their individual craft. Wonderful!

Harry has a lot of talent - but his teachers and mentors made him work, made him strive for improvement. If anyone remains teachable, and makes the effort to improve on weak areas and development of new areas, really good things will happen.

Harry Connick, Jr. was a child prodigy and trained by the legendary greats of his genre. Harry is a master of his craft. Anyone that feels the need to argue with what he has to say about music, stage presence, performance, or entertainment just likes to hear themselves talk and/or is an immature and prideful person.

I don't watch AI anymore except maybe a few clips on YT here and there. But Harry Connick Jr. is pretty much the only reason I'd watch any clips, now. He was hands down the best judge and a great mentor when he did that. The only one with true musicianship deep knowledge and understanding of music. Not just about selling records but about helping create and foster great artists.
