Michael DeMain, steers the boat from the rear, as Summer DeMain, 16, and Chloe Dishaw, 16, sit in the middle, as Amair Bildeau, 18 brings in the Walleye she speared. They were all successful at harvesting fish and were allowed a total limit for their boat of ten walleye.
The Ojibwe tribe members were exercising their Federal Treaty Rights to fish. The fish gather near the shoreline to spawn, and the reflection of the fish eyes can be seen and then speared.
The Tribal Game Warden and those who counted and measured the fish were all present to conform to Treaty Regulations.
