This is part 2 of my journey to learn Dutch. I move to Rotterdam Netherlands with my family in July 2022. I am working on getting my Nursing license here in the Netherlands. I need B1 level Dutch to be a nurse here.

nou, dat was geen weggegooid geld zeg. geweldige intro, heel goed gedaan. jij komt er wel, voor dat je het weet loop je rond als een echte zuster hoor. not wasted money. great intro, great job. you will get there, before you know it you will walk around like a true nurse, im sure. impressive progress made.
And I thought that institute was a well kept Brabants secret. I remember my brother going there 35-40 years ago when there were actually still nuns teaching. Your Dutch is pretty good. You started of well because you had a grasp on the pronunciation from the start. Like you said, you start to see the sentence construction and now it is words to learn and place them. A lot of words are the same but pronounced differently while other words are spelled different but when you say them out loud, they sound the same as English. But then there is the uncommon ones, weird ones and irrational ones and not to forget the composites, often pretty funny (like the Belgium ones). May I suggest to start reading books in Dutch for like half an hour daily. You will constantly repeat the sentences in your mind and unconsciously pick up a lot of words. Maybe even children's books will do the trick.
Wow Diana, je hebt goed je best gedaan. Top. (ja ik antwoord nu in het Nederlands). Het is een intensieve cursus. Rust eerst even uit. Probeer dagelijks het Nederlandse Journaal te luisteren. En af en toe een Nederlandse krant te lezen. Daar leer je ook veel van. Als je terug gaat dan worden de puntjes op de i gezet 😁 Nederlands is een moeilijke taal, maar je hebt het al aardig onder de knie. Veel succes

GREAT JOB! I will be moving to Netherlands in September (Rotterdam) after spending 8 years in China. I have been looking at immersive/intensive programs myself. I am so happy to see such improvement after a week. My parner is Dutch (I'm American) and I want to dive into the language like I did with Chinese. Thank you so much for sharing your journey! Waauw Dianna, een volle minuut in het Nederlands! Wat een progressie in maar één weekje tijd! Daar heb je vast hard voor gewerkt. Het is duidelijk te merken dat je nu al zinnen kunt maken. Daar mag je best trots op zijn. Goed gedaan! Het uitbreiden van je vocabulaire zal deels bewust en deels ook veel onbewust gaan, denk ik. Dat pik je al doende steeds meer op. Ook omdat je de structuur van de taal nu beter begrijpt, herken je in zinnen ook beter watvoor type woord een nieuw woord is. En dan kun je de betekenis soms wel afleiden uit de context. Komt goed. Great progress, I'm very impressed. Now it's important to keep practicing it as much as possible to keep your newly gained knowledge active. It'll gradually get easier, though there'll always be more to learn. And no, you won't become fluent overnight. But that's perfectly all right. You're learning a new language, that's no simple task.

Geweldig dat je van zo ver bent gekomen to waar je nu bent! De Nederlandse taal echter is net als alle andere talen zo dat deze actueel voor je blijft als je deze dagelijks spreekt. Nu je deze basis hebt is er ook geen excuus meer te bedenken om in het Engels te blijven praten. Zeker omdat jullie tenslotte alle 3 naar Nederland zijn verhuisd en Nederlands hier, zoals je hebt gemerkt, toch echt de voertaal is. Op het Engels terug vallen in Nederland, daarmee maak je het jezelf eigenlijk alleen maar onnodig ingewikkeld, terwijl dit niet zo hoeft te zijn. De regel moet nu eigenlijk zijn: je spreekt vanaf nu altijd Nederlands en heel af en toe kort even Engels. Praat Nederlands met je dochter, met je man, praat onderling Nederlands zo vaak mogelijk. Het Engels verleren jullie toch niet, maar als je de Nederlandse taal een kans wilt geven komt Engels automatisch permanent op de achtergrond.
Super goed gedaan!! Je bent heel goed te verstaan en hebt veel geleerd. Nu even lekker bijkomen en op het werk alleen nog maar Nederlands spreken, dan kom je er vanzelf! Bel me!! Groetjes Inge
I am genuinely impressed with your pronunciation. I know some Americans who live here for a very long time.,but still arent able to pronounce some of the words correctly. So j really have to potential to get fluent. It wont always be easy and sometimes frustrating. But u fot this. Good luck
Good to hear you had a good time and were able to make big improvements in learning the Dutch language. Hope you'll be more proficient in picking up the (small)talks of your co-workers. That should make the workplace more relaxed and will help in building up your confidence again. A good step forward in getting your BIG registration. Nou, dat was indrukwekkend. Ja, je hebt een zwaar amerikaans accent, maar je introductie was gramaticaal foutloos! En dat accent wordt vanzelf beter. Wat ik vooral goed vind, is dat je langzaam praat. Die snelheid komt ook vanzelf met veel doen. Erg indrukwekkend!
Geweldig om te horen wat je in zo'n korte periode al hebt geleerd over de Nederlandse taal. Heel veel succes met oefenen de komende periode. Eric, van Soul to Soul Travels, moet er ook aan geloven en Nederlands gaan leren. Er ontstaat een heel groepje op RU-vid. Okay, enough Dutch for now. I can recommend the channels of Casey Kilmore. who has a lot of videos about learning the Dutch language as an Australian, and Dutchies to be: Learning Dutch with Kim, who has actual lessons learning Dutch words and sentences with pronounciation, grammar etc. Hopefully, that will help you with some practice materials.
Well done good on you!!! Good luck applying all the new knowledge and hopefully one day you will be able to use a lot of words in Dutch too😉, because believe me, that is just as possible in Dutch as it is in English, I do it myself too🙃. But it is true that the communication style is generally more direct, so because of that people usually use less words.
A week with the nuns is very short, but it is important that you also practice well at home. Otherwise it will be difficult when you go back to the nuns in Vucht.
your dutch was slow but good language, So a good start I would say. And gives you a start to learn better dutch by talking to native speakers. `There are lots of opportunities where speed is not required. Be encouraged !
About the first minute of your video... Your sentences were great, perfect Dutch. Your pronunciations need a little practice but all Dutch people will understand you just fine.
Ik heb alles kunnen begrijpen 🙂 Heel goed gedaan Diana ! De woorden komen vanzelf! You can try to watch English programs that are subtitled! You will hear your own language and learn small sentences. This is how Dutchies learn English (in reverse order of course). Veel plezier en succes!
Misschien nog een tip andersom. Probeer programma's, series of films te vinden waarin juist Nederlands wordt gesproken en waarvoor ook de Engelse ondertiteling beschikbaar is.
je spreekt ontzettend goed en verstaanbaar Nederlands, al na zo'n week bij de nonnen. Ga zo door! Meubels Elise can help you as well. Children learning the lanqisch more easely and natuarly. Keep it simplex and straight, we like to be concreet and direct.
Knap werk voor je Nederlands! Ik zeg altijd dat mensen in het begin lekker veel fouten moeten maken, maar ik heb je niet op heel veel fouten kunnen betrappen. Je snapt wel wat de onvermijdelijke uitkomt gaat zijn, hé? Nu willen we een video van je zien die helemaal in het Nederlands is :)
Ik kan het proberen, maar het kan zijn dat je een uur moet lijden terwijl ik probeer te bedenken wat ik moet zeggen om mijn gedachten uit mijn hoofd te krijgen.🤣🤪
@@daring2godutch673 Ik spreek behalve Nederlands ook Duits, Italiaans en Engels en ik ken dat gevoel maar al te goed. Toch moet je jezelf precies in dat soort situaties brengen om dat probleem uiteindelijk te overkomen en creatiever te worden je te uiten in de betreffende taal! Geen zorgen om het lijden, dat komt wel goed.
