Just an fyi, you absolutely can't just bowl it wherever you want in cricket, there's wide's, no balls, ect. for stopping that, let alone the fact that you'll be smashed around the park by a competent batter if you do.

Great yo see you back Johnny. I played both cricket and basesball as a kid and both are great games the only thing I'd say is bowling in cricket is definitely not just bowl it wherever you want. If you do that you will be smacked around the park. Length and line play a huge part in containing batsmen.

As Baseball is a matter of pride for the Americans, Cricket is for Australians Indians Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. The difference is that Baseball is an inherently American thing and you guys rightfully love it for that. On the other side Cricket for the people of these nations is important because we have bested England (our erstwhile colonizer) in their own sport. There is a history to that. And that's the reason behind this zealous attitude. Additionally, as Americans can be extremely racist, so can South-Asians. Hatred for you in your earlier cricket video is a display of that. If you are willing to understand cricket a little bit better before you put this whole thing behind you it'd be best to actually watch a game of cricket. Maybe a shorter format game of T20. I can guarantee that even if you dont love the sport you'll definitely appreciate it and the athletes (you seem like a genuine sports fan). But remember that cricket is an exceptionally complex game. Most fans even don't understand all the subtleties of the sport and watch it for the broader aspects of it - the boundaries, over-boundaries, centuries, outs etc. and to see the iconic & famous players play. I'll give you a reason why cricket is way more complex than it appears, and it's not about the bat or the ball (or the lack of gloves). It's the pitch (in cricket the rectangular field of play at the center is called The Pitch). Both batting and bowling is dependent on that one thing because, unlike baseball, in cricket the ball bounces off the ground. Makes all the difference in the world. Every difference between these two amazing sports (Shape of the bat, shape of the playing area, batting stance, bowling/pitching differences, scoring... you name it) somehow came into existence because of that one difference. That doesn't make Baseball any inferior, and definitely not any less entertaining. But it's not superior either. Just different.

Right of the bat (pun intended) that espn analysts was wrong. it doesn’t take into account that a cricket ball not only swings but bounces with a pronounced seem deviating the path of the ball either way. The area to hit the ball into is 360degrees and baseball has one type of swing where as cricket has many different kinds of shots eg pull shot, cover drive, sweep etc

While personal preferences play a significant role in determining one's favourite sport, it's important to acknowledge that both cricket and baseball have unique qualities that appeal to different audiences. Cricket enthusiasts often appreciate the strategic depth and diverse formats the sport offers, such as Test matches, One Day Internationals, and T20s. The extended duration of cricket matches allows for intricate game plans and displays of individual skill. Additionally, the worldwide popularity of cricket and its rich history contribute to its allure. However, it's crucial to recognize that the superiority of a sport is subjective, and both cricket and baseball have their own merits and fan bases. I would also like to add that batsmanship in cricket is far different to baseball. Cricket isn't just about big hits. It's also about tactical batsmanship and placing the ball in the right areas. Keeping in mind we have a full 360 degree field. I personally love cricket and believe its a far more intricate and difficult game and strongly dislike baseball but then again, I'm not American so this is where culture comes into play I guess. I also believe Cricket has a far bigger talent selection as we have entire countries playing against each other, which is just incredible to watch. Thanks mate. Go the crows!! 💙❤️💛

I’m Aussie, I played footy, cricket and baseball, I could always throw a baseball faster than I could bowl a cricket ball, they’re both difficult af, I think it’s harder to throw a baseball on the spot consistently because the room for error is so small, whereas in cricket I could bowl the ball almost anywhere within reason and get away with wider balls, there is an art to both, I was an opening bowler in cricket and a pitcher in baseball until o blew out my shoulder, both require a high amount of skill to get the ball to swing or to slow down mid air, love the channel Johnny, haters hate mate that’s what they do from mommy’s basement, I love the fact you do your research brother and always give a fair and informed valid opinion, cheers brother

When the ball hits the ground it changes direction, reaction times are measured from the bounce to the hit. Note the 14 out of 20 were full tosses, didn't bounce off the ground. The guy wearing the gloves is the equivalent of the catcher, an outfielder doesn't wear a glove for protection.

Was the hitting comparison between baseball and cricket done on a worn grass pitch or was it done on a synth surface where the ball doesnt turn anywhere near as much? Was it done with a new ball or was it done with a 40 over used ball that has reverse swing? The balls and conditions of the pitch doesnt change in baseball over the course of a game it does with cricket.

I'm not saying either sport is harder than the other. They're two completely different sports. But these "scientific" tests they did to prove which is harder aren't exactly the correct conditions to test such things. It was an indoor net session with someone bowling lollipops on what would be a synthetic pitch. I don't know how much the ground or weather conditions influence a baseball game but pitch and weather conditions can make a huge difference to a cricket game. There's variable bounce, there's movement off the seam, there's spin and swing both ways, there's Shane Warne's ball of the century that drifted a foot in one direction then spun three feet in the other when it hit the pitch. Play is also a lot longer than baseball which requires incredible stamina and concentration, especially in a test match where a batsmen can bat all day and a bowler can bowl all day.

Great to see you back Johnny! I’ve been waiting for your next cricket video 😂 I can’t argue any of the comments in the video, but I will say that bowlers (like pitchers) can’t bowl just anywhere… If it’s too wide, you are penalised one run, and you have to re-bowl the ball. If you bowl it too high for the batsman to reach, that’s also too wide, same rule generally applies. If you bowl a particularly wild wide ball, it might be missed by the fielders, and might run down to the boundary for four runs - so with the penalty that’s FIVE runs and you have to bowl it again. Same as baseball the bowler and wicketkeeper have a plan for each batter, and work in tandem to try and get the batter to make a mistake. Shame you don’t want to do any more cricket videos, there’s some great stuff I’d like to show you.

I think nearly every argument by either side is flawed because they fail to acknowledge that expectations and norms already take account of the specifics of the sport. So clearly, it is inarguably the case that it is harder to hit a single pitch in baseball than a bowl in cricket by some considerable margin (though the "sport science" channel analysis was ridiculous as the bowler was clearly bowling full tosses (balls that don't hit the ground) right into the pitchers preferred area) BUT the sports already account for that. A batter in cricket can hit the ball more easily but is expected to average around 40 runs per innings so that expectation balances out the difficulty in striking a single ball. It is FAR harder for a baseball batter to hit a pitch cleanly but then we don't expect batters to hit 40 runs a game 😂 It is a misunderstanding akin to claiming basketball is far easier than (association) football because scoring a basket is so much easier. I mean, it WOULD be a fair claim if three points was a winning score but the fact you are going to be aiming for more around 100 points to one or two goals in football factors in the differences. The reverse asinine point, were it not flawed would clearly also be true when comparing pitching and bowling. If batting is harder in baseball because the ball is harder to hit then, unavoidably, the reverse would be true and pitching would be easier as inducing a miss is more common. Again, all this is nonsensical as the expectations of the games, as they have evolved, mean that whilst a pitcher may have an easier time passing that narrow bat we then EXPECT them to do so much more of the time. A much more sensible conclusion would be to propose that baseball is a game that rewards batters for moments of perfection over consistency and pitchers for consistency over moments of perfection; cricket rewards batters for consistency over moments of perfection and bowlers for moments of perfection over consistency. Finally, the most logically based analysis is that BOTH sports, alongside ALL elite level mature team sports played by substantial numbers of people are EQUALLY difficult as the difficulty stems from the elite level player you are up against. You don't compete against the rules or the equipment but your opponent and an elite opponent is an elite challenge, always.

@stuarthancock571
@stuarthancock571 9 месяцев назад
Bowlers are restricted as to where the ball goes. If it’s too wide or bounces too high above the head, it’s called a Wide from the umpire and the batting team is awarded 1 run. If the bowler bowls a full toss ( a bowl without a bounce) and it goes higher than the batter’s hips, it’s an illegal bowl, and is called a No-Ball from the umpire. This also scores 1 run to the batting team. And a batsman cannot get out from a No-Ball, he can however get out from a Wide if he manages to make contact with the bat.

As a South African who emigrated to Canada, I've both watched and played tons of Cricket and Baseball and I enjoy both sports deeply. They're both great games. I've never really talked much to cricket fans that are ignorant about baseball and I'm sure they say a lot of dumb things about baseball... I have experienced a lot of ignorance from baseball fans about Cricket though, and there seems to be the same common misunderstandings about the game that can be addressed in a few points: It is DEFINITELY harder to hit a baseball than a cricket ball. There's no argument to be had there. That doesn't really tell the whole story though. In my opinion, it's a fair bit harder to bat in cricket than baseball. How can this be if hitting a baseball is harder than hitting a cricket ball? The key difference, and it was only very briefly touched on in the video, is that in cricket you are hurting your team far more when you get out. In baseball, you're going to make an out roughly 70% of the time. It's just the nature of the game. The other team is going to do it too... Timely hitting is great and some situations are more crucial than others, but making an out is just not that big a deal. In the most common format of a Cricket game, there are 50 overs (6 balls per over) for 300 balls. Your team gets to make a total of 10 outs, each time you make an out, a new batter comes to bat, the old batter never bats again in this game. You can think of it as a 1 inning baseball game where each half of the inning ends when the pitchers have either collectively pitched 300 balls or gotten 10 people out. You have 11 players on a cricket team, but not all of them are batting specialists, some of them are bowling specialists... Just like in baseball... Not all your players are great at batting... If one of your best batters goes out, you're going to feel the effect on the scoreboard. Batsmen in cricket must bat in a way to avoid making an out while still scoring runs. They can't just bat purely safely, because then they won't score... They can't just bat to score runs, because then they won't survive... They must manage risk constantly and they must avoid making any mistakes. Any mistake could be the last mistake they make in that game, and they could be costing their team the game with that mistake. No player plays perfectly, but perfection is the ask. Baseball batters just simply don't have to deal with this. Don't get me wrong, there are many clever players... But... There are many stupid players too in baseball. We've all seen that power hitter that is purely home run or bust with a terrible approach and they've made TONS of money in the game. Yet, sometimes you're just watching this player and you're just thinking, "God, sometimes this guy is so painful to watch". As was concluded earlier, they're two different sports and they both have really great aspects to them... But... It's just kind of silly to me when people compare the batting with "how easy is it to hit the ball"... The objectives for hitting are just not the same.

It might be easier to hit with a cricket bat when the ball is thrown at waist height, far from the body. Cricket batsman need to decide where to hit the ball when the head, toes, ribs and other areas are targeted. Would be interesting to see a baseball batter try to hit a yorker or bouncer.

Bro bowlers cannot throw anywhere too. They have to bowl accordingly to field. If do not , they can loose some extra runs . You can’t compare pitchers and bowlers just like that. Do you really have an idea how is it hard to throw a ball in cricket. If your elbow bends more than 45 degrees. You will be banned forever from bowling. And you talking about strike zones. I get its hard but in cricket bowling a yorker in a tense situation is more harder than that. If you miss it. Batter gonna go bang it nowhere.

The gloves are worn by wicket keepers and batsmen only. Obviously when the ball is constantly speeding at you, you need hand protection. However, no outfielders wear gloves, because they are not needed for safety. So baseball players only wear gloves because it hurts their hands as they don't know how to catch properly.

Baseball is almost certainly derived from another traditional English game called Rounders which is still played. In some areas in Britain it was even known as base ball, baseball or basball, in the late 18th and 19th century. It is known that it was imported into the USA by British settlers and was included in a popular compendium of games. Baseball has, obviously, evolved away from it but in essence they started out as the same game. The more interesting history is why baseball overtook cricket in the 19th century in the States, I think the Civil War was probably the most significant factor.

Personally I consider 3 big reasons, 1) Marketing of Baseball as an American invention vs Cricket a game of the British Empire. Playing baseball probably also became patriotic even though Baseball too was brought to US by English people from England. 2) In 1909 ICC (Imperial Cricket Conference, now International Cricket Council) was founded. They restricted membership to only countries in British Empire. This basically killed Cricket in countries like US but also Argentina who got isolated from International Cricket when Cricket was primarily an International (i.e. Nation vs Nation) sport at the time & Cricket there was at infancy probably somewhere on the same level as in India. 3) Absence of professionalism resulted in the split in Rugby, we're lucky it didn't happen in Cricket coz playing Cricket to make money was looked down upon. Professional Cricketers were called Players & Amateur Cricketers were called Gentleman. I think many early Cricketers in the early 20th century switched to a sport that paid for playing. I think many Rugby players became Rugby League players for similar reasons.

If you actually watch who they got to do that ESPN Sports Science experiment it was an MLB Baseballer vs a player for the American Cricket team. It would be like comparing an AFL player to a someone who plays Aussie Rules in America. They didn't choose a good cricketer at all, even try to get one of the best players in the world from Australia/England/India/South Africa. The results of that 'test' are so bogus it's ridiculous. And of course ESPN would want the bias to favour the Americans and make it seem like they are more athletic.

The point is that when you see a baseball pro hitting with a cricket bat 14 times out of 20, where is the ball going? He might clear the boundary once or twice, but then he is going to get caught in the 'deep' and his innings is over. A couple of six hits out the ground is not a significant innings for a star batsman, it's not like a home run, it's a failure! A cricket team wants their star batsmen to stay in for a long period to score a lot of runs not just a big hit or two and get out. The cricket bat is a defensive implement as well as an attacking one. That is obviously not appropriate for a baseball bat. The two different bats suit the two different games. The comparison of which bat is easier or harder is irrelevant because it is not assessing the different roles of a batter in baseball and a batsman in cricket, or the difference in bowling styles, ie. the bouncing and laterally deviating ball, off the pitch surface in cricket. Another aspect of course is that any professional bat and ball game player is going to get better with a different bat with practice and coaching.

What is the point of this video? It is stupid going on about pitchers are faster than bowlers and everything else. Just one thing, only a very small percentage of cricket bowlers try to bowl fast, ie. 145+kph. The great majority of 'quicker bowlers' bowl between 125 and 140kph (77-88mph) to maintain control, swing the ball through the air and/or off the pitch, and other strategies. The next greatest number of bowler's bowl from about 75-100kph (48-62mph) to exploit, spin, flight, drift, etc. The games are different and the pros in both are at the top of their game, and would find it tough to switch to the other. The one thing you can say is that the top performers in baseball get paid more than their counterparts in cricket.

Running starts don't make that much of a difference,they only need a few steps and the ball is hard as fuck,more a rock than ball,people have died being hit in the head in the past,also you have to know where the ball is going once it's hit the ground.

And no if you throw it outside of pitch it's a foul ball,ie:,it's called a no Ball,you can hit it and make runs,but because it's a foul you can't go out.

Naturally, a ball that strikes a (baseball) catcher's mitt without it bouncing off the ground will register on the radar gun much faster. Baseball is so different as pitchers dominate the game v batters dominating in cricket. Even though they are different games, I enjoy watching both of them.

On average baseball pitcher throw faster than cricket bowlers. However , that does miss out on one major difference. A cricket bowler can direct that speed directly at the batters throat , its up to them to defend themselves. This is entirely legal and an intrinsic part of batting. I recommend trying to find footage of Australian fast bowler Jeff Thomson from the 1970's who liked to see 'blood on the wicket'. Then try it for 6 hours (a normal Test match day). Added to which , all cricket bowlers have to field , so how was Aroldis Chapman as an outfielder? And in a Test Match game you get to do it for 5 days, no rotations, no subs. Could an MLB pitcher handle 240+ pitches over 5 days whilst also batting and fielding? Bowlers have to have just as much, but different, control than pitchers. A baseball pitcher may have a fastball, curveball, slider and changeup all sent to a small defined area(which can be hard to locate consistently) whilst, lets say, a Test Match leg spinner will have a stock leg break (with varying degrees of spin imparted),a googly (opposite spin), a flipper. a slider , a top spinner each of which may vary by length and speed and delivery angle giving hugely differing pictures to the batter . You also may want to think about the fact that in limited overs cricket not having the ball hit is a victory for the bowler so bowling deliberately wide to achieve this, but too wide results in a penalty run and a repeat delivery so its a fine margin.
@whattiler5102
@whattiler5102 9 месяцев назад
You are missing the point that the great majority of bowlers are not trying to bowl as fast as possible, it's not what they do! They may be fast-medium, medium-fast, medium, slow medium, slow whatever their style is.

Defend against those haters JB, great work! I've played tons of Cricket and enough Baseball to realise some of the nuances of the game ( wish I played more, but that's another story.) It's unfortunate that Baseball hasn't had a bigger presence in Australia and likewise Cricket in the USA. They are great sports in their own rights and I prefer not to compare them. I love me some NFL, but AFL runs through my veins, as NFL runs through yours. Keep exploring JB!

I tried but they are too slow for me, especially NFL and Rugby the stopping and starting does my head in. I first watched Gridiron about 30 years ago, 5 minutes in to the game I said to my brother when is it starting 🤣 , I have grown up with footy and Cricket, that's the way it is. Some Aussies get a bit hurt when it comes to their sport and cars, take it as a compliment Johnny and I love your enthusiasm about Footy.

This video is rubbish.. The guy bowling the cricket ball is bowling absolute pies that a 10 year old cricketer could hit. Also they are not allowing for deviation of the ball trajectory after it bounces, from spin, swing or seam which is really crucial. The way the baseball guys are swinging the cricket bat would have any cricket bowler drooling and they would be an easy out. Baseball and Cricket should not be compared like this as Baseball is a defensive game designed for low scores and Cricket is an offensive game designed for high scores. Just one example of this is the amount of players in the field. In Baseball there are 9 in a quarter of a circle, in Cricket there are 11 in a full circle. If Cricket use the numbers Baseball uses there would be 36 players on the field rather than 11 and vice versa if Baseball used Cricket numbers there would be 3 (actually slightly less than 3) players on the field.

Nihn's comparison video is worse than his Cricket explaining video which you hated too. When someone compares Wicket Keeper wearing gloves to every single player in baseball wearing gloves he's not coming from a well informed side, but when someone suggests Fielders not being allowed to wear gloves is being "scum" then he's coming from the wrong mindset against the game altogether. Also I watched that espn show he's referring on TV. They compared an amateur Club Cricketer in US with some professional baseballer, they did similar biased comparison with Rugby by comparing some average American Rugby Club player with some professional NFL player. There's another video probably by the same espn show where they gave a completely different opinion to their previous one, even the professional baseballer agreed it was difficult. So comparing athletes of different levels gets you nothing except bias confirmation if you had any bias already. 3:02 Not that easy according to this espn sports science episode. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I3m4I3iX8EM.htmlsi=kxpKasBSM89pP3P5 5:33 Because they're allowed to bend their arms. In Cricket they're banned for bending elbows as it makes the balls faster & also bouncier which is considered too dangerous as the Bowlers are allowed to hit Batsmen almost everywhere. 7:50 Other than the Wicket Keeper you won't see anyone wearing gloves including in Fielder who stands probably just couple of metres away from the Batsman despite him facing the Ball hit directly at him. That's the real difference but Ninh's video deliberately ignores it even though it's a well known thing that Fielders standing right next to the Batsman face really hard hit Balls. 10:42 Hitting those 3 Stumps takes accuracy, focus & yes concentration. Hitting the Batsman is only to scare him so he could lose his focus or not try to hit big shots. 12:59 Pitchers can't get any reasonable speed without being able to bend their elbows. They don't have to Spin the Ball upon Bouncing off the Pitch either which is an extremely difficult thing to master. 14:22 Absolutely wrong. An uncontrolled ball gets hit for runs & often gets penalised with penalty runs for it too.

Hi Johnny. I was not one of the people who attacked you about cricket. But I must tell you that the video you are reacting to is stupid. Comparing sports like this is idiotic in my opinion. I actually watched the sport science episode he glanced over. They actually concluded that cricket batting is more difficult because the ball pitches in cricket. Not my opinion, that was the conclusion of the show sport science, an American show. Baseball has been professional longer than cricket has. When I was a boy baseball players would have been fitter. Now it is about the same. Some baseball pitchers are large, but I won't call them unfit. The fitness requirements are different, and there are now three different types of cricket. Some players play T20 only because they don't have the fitness or endurance to play in the longer forms. Cricket fanatics are like Star Wars fans, they like to argue too much. 😂 That doesn't make Star Wars bad. 🤔
@joyfulzero853
@joyfulzero853 9 месяцев назад
Some people play T20 because they are betted suited to shorter but more explosive performance. There are some notable quick bowlers (e.g Shaun Tait, Tymal Mills) who after injury relatively early in their careers realised they could not get through a 50 over game, never mind a first class game or test match.

@@joyfulzero853 yeah, thanks, that's the type of T20 players who I was thinking of. I didn't mean to call them unfit.
