American Pikas (Ochotona princeps) calling out in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park, British Columbia. Much of this footage was integrated into an episode of Daily Planet on Discovery Channel Canada in October of 2012. Merchandise is now available! This was a pretty low pitched squeak. Usually they are much higher pitched and the sound the make sounds like "beeee". We hear them all the time when we do 14ers

UncompressedWAVmusic actually, they could be extincted due to loss of habitat as Earth is getting warmer. These Pikas need food supplies for winter and they can't survive long in the heat of summer. If winter is getting shorter and the amount of ice is reducing, then no matter how many Pikas there are, soon it will be extincted.

They are not endangered where I live. I see these guys all over the mountains I live at. They like high altitudes. And spend all summer collecting grasses and flowers for winter because they don't hibernate. I probably seen close to 100 this last summer backpacking in our mountains

By the way this is a lagomorph and the live in the mountains. They are the only relative other than the various other kinds of rabbits...... rabbits are not rodents they are lagomorphs and they are real.

@@ugandanknuckles3900 I'm using voice to text it might not be spelling lagomorph correctly but that is what rabbits and this animal is they are lagomorphs it is decided by their gut their enzymes the way they Digest. I have a PhD in neuroscience a PhD in Psychology and for masters degrees and I studied veterinary medicine and so much more and they are called lagomorphs just like rabbits they are the only animal related to rabbits that science has decided so far

"Pikachu" is "sparkle mouse" in Japanese. It has nothing to do with Pikas. That's just a coincidence. The Japanese word "pika" as in "sparkle" is supposed to be a reference to electricity.
