Loved the podcast. Bought Age of Revolution. As an American citizen (of many decades) of Indian descent, I was struck by Fareed’s opening comments. I have been told twice “You can be a US citizen but you will never be an American!”. My response has been “I love America that is why I chose America over my country of birth - a very difficult choice. America chose me as I came here on an engineering fellowship to do my Ph.D. I continue to repay America’s trust & investment in me by leading innovation, creating jobs, and paying my share of taxes. In your case, you being an American is a mere accident of birth. Happy to match my contributions to this country I love to yours on any metric of your choosing”.
Much love to you Charlie. Your appearance shook me up. It evokes old good times. I have been following your shows since 2001 and yet I didn’t see anyone coming close to what you have done in the domain of pure journalism. GOD bless you man.
First and foremost, Thanks to you Charlie Rose. You've taught me,another citizen of the world 🌎 in America 🇺🇸 , to engage with more critical thinking. I've been your follower for many years and you've taught me through the questions you've asked, thought provoking instances on each guest. Finally, Fareed Thank you for the lessons in history, I love Been an American for the freedom it has granted us with: Be yourself and say what you think.
Thank you Charlie and your media team for this interview. Your ability to ask a question and allow the guest all the time he/she needs to answer is a rare trait in a world of 2 minutes sound bites. I am a better educated person because of you and I thank you and your team.
really... Germany has a market cap? nvidia/apple/ microsoft are bigger than Germany? lol ok Japan or Germany are 9-10% of world economy? Ok i understand why you like it. people who just talk nonsense with confidence sells well lol
Amen! Charlie Rose is ten times the journalist Gayle King will ever be. Nate Burelson isn't even a journalist he's just an ignorant sports commentator that CBS shouldn't have made a co-anchor.
The interview captures the essence of what makes the United States a unique and enduring nation. Emphasizing America's greatness is already an established achievement, rooted in the values and vision of the founding fathers, this resonates deeply. It's a powerful reminder that the country's true strength lies in its core principles and heritage, rather than in needing to be "made great again." It’s an inspiring call for Americans to reconnect with that original spirit.
Yikes, America has been a hypocrite since it's founding fathers declared "Freedom " while owning slaves, the genocide of the native population and locking them up on reservations. Americans are exceptionally evil, ruthless with Total lack of empathy which defines humanity. Yes the European elite moved to America to dominate and rule with ruthless selfishness.
I friggin Love you Charlie! Miss you BIG TIME on PBS, but ALWAYS Supportive of what you bring to the national discussion. Only someone of your Caliber/History could do what you do with the some of the Greatest Minds of the current Times. btw. my Son is named Charlie, not for you, but I'm so Glad in some way that he shares your name. Keep doing what you do. We NEED your voice in today's politics now more then ever!
Fareed claims he is from a tiny minority in India alluding to discrimination. He certainly was from privileged class , his father was a much Ruling party politician and Islamic scholar. He was certainly a member of the Elite class.
Fareed should talk about the Cuban crisis and NATO expansion. Then, talk about US bullying with sanctions and through financial means. Why is the world turning against the US? Then, he should talk about the demise of humanity.
Fareed mentioned that he has many connections in Iran who claim that a significant number of Iranians are anti-U.S. I am confident this is not true. It appears that the individuals he is in contact with are either mullahs or their supporters. These are people who are working hard to reform the existing mafia-like regime with minor changes, aiming to keep their hold on power. People like Zarif fall into this category. In the last election, voting booths were notably empty. Since there is no effective and open media source, private citizens took it upon themselves to film and share the empty polling stations on social media across the country. It's estimated that only 10-20% of the population within Iran supports the mullahs, largely due to the significant financial benefits they receive. The world will not experience peace until this corrupt, criminal regime is removed. The focus should be on helping the people, not the mullahs. Mr. Zakaria, I believe you are more perceptive than this.
Fareed Zakaria exemplifies a foreigner who has served well the hierarchy established by English and Ashkenazi. As a thoughtful political analyst, he has been part and contributor of America's success.
I used to like Charlie and I'm pretty sure he got a raw deal, but if are watching this now and truly believe you are being informed of anything useful than you are among the blissfully unaware and my congratulations to you!

Fareed is a tremendous speaker and presents deep, thought provoking ideas. My only caveat is I do not see Donald Trump as a political genius but certainly strongly self-driven and timing was on his side when he decided to run. He knew to use fear to motivate the lower-middle class white man primarily. No sincerity, no morality, no academic prowess in DT but he could speak to base instincts.
Great interview! P.S. As much as I am nostalgic for the classic black background, this looks much better for this medium. Audio is improved too. Keep at it!
I think we need violins to go with the eulogy for Donald Trump. He wasn’t reading the room in the way you suggest. He saw an opening for his own life long beliefs, which are fundamentally anti American.
Great fan of Fareed! But I was a bit irritated by his comment about not being himself in India because he is a Muslim. Ironical. Father is a PhD and mother is an editor of Times of India. A lot of us cannot be ourselves in a poor country irrespective of religion.
On the streets for Hindus you are a muslim kid in a country that still lives in the shadow of cast system no matter who your parents are. It’s hard for you to understand unless maybe you are an African American.
I was shocked to hear Fareed Zakaria speak about Gaza and praise the Israeli army's success, without mentioning the thousands of children, mostly Muslims, who have been killed-people who share the same religion as him.
I too am a Kentuckian. I am amazed at the ignorance that puts people in power (rural votes) that do not have Kentucky’s interests at heart. Religion and politics has been a very bad marriage in Kentucky. I live 7 miles from Lincoln’s boyhood home. He would not recognize his party. Guns and coal define Kentucky. We have more Universities and colleges than you can imagine, yet ignorance prevails. There has always been great resistance to change. In politics, it is a great place for carpetbaggers and grifters to call home. I have stayed because I love the land. Peace and we have hope for better governance one day.
What's the ideal solution for states like Kentucky where people myself don't have to file bankruptcy in order to keep ourselves and their children fed and given a dignified life that they once had. I'm not challenging anyone. I just want to know from other's perspectives.
@@Goodnews99457 most of the problem is rooted in the perpetual corruption in small rural area’s government. It is a generational phenomenon. I thought it might die out over generations, but didn’t. When the children do become educated, they move away for opportunities and lifestyle changes. I don’t have the answer. We just need to return to being good neighbors to one another, religion and politics put aside. Peace.
this is what happens when you dont have voter id and your elections are a complete joke. people are frustrated because they still think there are people out there somewhere voting for these morons, because there is absolutely no way to audit it. once polls close they fill out ballots on behalf of everyone who did not vote. if you win the popular vote but not the electoral college its due to fraud. every single race now comes down to a few thousand votes, and the establishment candidates always win. we need more people voting in primaries they are the most important race far more important than the general and we need to secure the voters, when you have hundreds of thousands of people that left the state or are not citezens or are dead all of those will have mail in ballots filled out on their behalf. seeing all these races come down to a hair and then seeing the establishment win is like flipping a coin 100 times and 95 are heads. we need election security, then maybe these poeple will care once again what their voters think .
ZAKARIA if America is so open as you describe here then how its that there is no nationwide outrage against the genocide in GAZA & atrocities in west bank commited by Israël. 😮
We are open, but that doesn't mean we are well-informed about international affairs or empathetic to people suffering in other lands. In other words, we are open but nationalistically egocentric.
I resent Fareed's hinting at dicrimination towards muslims in India as reason for him to like America more! Bunkus! Fareed you were a privilaged kid in India and the rich and the Famous are NEVER discriminated in India... It is only Class discrinination that prevails in India... Further more to say that people are not interested in your past in America is a bunch of Nonsense! I have lived in the IS for forty years and not a day passes without "Americans" meaning the white people asking me " where are you from? "...
I have respect for both these men. Just one point. Not everyone comes from somewhere else. There are indigenous American Indians. It is a standard of civilization arrogance.
I mean, even the indigenous came from somewhere else, if you go back far enough. In any case, I think the point being made is a rejection of this brand of nationalism. A country rooted in “blood and soil” is one living in an imagined past.
You are so unfair. Palestinians have suffered for 75 years of occupation yet, you defend Israel and and want it to be strong enough to suppress us ,how do we defend ourselves? So unfair
I was excited to listen to this conversation, but dropped half way when Fareed spoke about the lack of Minority rights in India. All communities live in harmony in India and have equal rights.
No , they don't live in harmony in India. Stop spreading the lies. We all know how Muslims and other minorities are treated under the fascist Hindutva radical regime of Modi.
No Democrat could be elected to national office without the black vote. Blacks are also more likely than any other demographic to vote as a block. It’s the opposite of dismissive.
Zakaria's characterization of the Dutch Empire is laughably ahistorical. It was incredibly vicious and extractive, as any Indonesian conversant with their own history can tell you. See Landes' "The Wealth and Poverty of Nations" for the gory details
Excellent representation of true American ethos and values; every American proud of her unique heritage must watch this video. It gives a glimpse of the American Soul which our founding fathers created and made The USA Great for eternity. A great idea and inspiration doesn’t need to be Made Great Again. It’s The greatest achievement already.
Huge fan of Fareed. Huge fan of Charlie. Great interview and I agree with almost all of the discussion EXCEPT about Israel v Palestine. What double standards! It betrayed the colonial mindset that these two are bought into. Whilst I can understand the outrage in Israel and the need to retaliate, but see the language and empathy for Israel vs the absence of ANY mention of the massive levels of civilian casualties in Gaza. I cannot explain two extremely intelligent people having an attitude except to term it as bigoted. Very disappointing.
John has found the source of money with minimal work. What he says the last few months is just that... make daily money with 30 minutes of BS. lol The old john is gone lol... he discovered the power of social media and add revenue sharing thing loooool
Hitler was a “good salesman”. Fareed left out that part. Ability to whip masses into a frenzy, to be an effective demagogue, is not a virtue. It’s evil. But Fareed would rather give “credit” to Trump for it? That’s disappointing.
It's great to see Charlie Rose again, after he was railroaded by the politics of the moment. American has missed Charlie Rose. Rose and Zakaria was some of the best in academia and current events.
Jeez Charlie, you’re smart and get great guests but can you please stop interrupting them to show how smart you are? I hate saying to my device, stop interrupting him! I love you, but darn it!
The guy used to call himself CNN liberal but later associated himself with people like Kissinger admiring him and so on... He also found to be a palegerising other people works. What else?
The argument that market capitalisation of top 3 US companies are larger than ALL German companies is a poor economic argument as most of German industry is NOT bringing its shares to market !! The mittlestande is all held in private hands and the inheritance tax structure mitigates against such a move.. Many Mittelstand companies are in fact truly large with many many having thousands of employees and a great number over 10,000! In short the bulk of German industry is privately held by owner families. UK is a diagonal opposite, much like the US share capital is overwhelmingly in the stock exchange.
Good to see Charlie back. There is pain in his face. And of course he has aged. Just goes to show that, for all his fame and fortune, when life throws pain at you it will leave its mark on your face.
I think Chinese are hierarchical in CCP etc but the Chinese tech is not. I come from Finland and we have extremely hierachical, conservativel, and misogynistic big tech companies in Finland. Used to be also racist, this has changed as there has been huge effort to change it. It's nowhere as bad. South East Asia is very vibrant compared to Finland. I think lot of Europe is similar, especially Western Europe, Eastern Europe is much better due to communism where women were advanced in many sector. That's why Finland & Europe will fail, except Scandinavia, Poland etc if no big war breaks out.
I have utmost respect for the professor, however he is still myopic in his outlook of history, economics and politics. The Dutch were not innovative in their economic outlook, such that they were able to derive wealth outside of extraction. The entire Dutch economy was based on empirical extraction and the devastation of indigenous and colonial cultures. Also, with regard to China, what we are witnessing now, the juxtaposition between a political system and an economic system. Every institution is appropriate at a certain point in time contingent upon resource availability and resource distribution. As the expectations in China have changed it is necessity that the political institutions need to change. Although China is masked under the guise of communism, it is essentially, an oligarch dictatorship. There needs to be a decentralization, a true decentralization and in evolution of their economy should they survive. The concept of the individual outside of the society is the invention of the industrial age, and it has taken us to the point where we have burned fossil fuel energy in conjunction with the evolution of a financial system, and how we are able to define assets to a notion that here did not exist in the course of history. The idea of the benefit of the individual outside of the community and the idea of the self-made man or the person who is able to succeed without acknowledging he or she is standing on the shoulders of everyone who came before is absurd, and our entire society is contingent upon this absurdity. We are a fundamental transition point we salvation will in ourof our interconnectedness and interdependence on all of life, we must transition from a mentality of empirical expansion and extortion and exploitation of cooperation in global stewardship. We must learn to fall in love with the land, our obligations towards the future and find our way back to the garden of Eden.
