Cmon to Da Basement and listen as legendary John Farnham gives us his version of this AC/DC masterpiece!! #BasementSquad Video Link: • John Farnham - It's a ...
It came down to Johns choice that he wanted to stay close to his wife and young family rather than tour endlessly. He was offered lead singer for Queen by Brian May after the death of Freddie (at Freddie's suggestion prior and Brians agreement apparently) but turned it down. As you will read in the comments he was admired by many top vocalists and we Aussies have been lucky to have him but it is exciting to see so many people discover him now thanks to the interwebs!
Just need to mention David Hirschfelder, keyboards, keytar. Music arranger and co writer whose skills provided the support for John and the others to display their skills. John had the best around him and they were all brilliant.🌼
Can I add - all John's backing singers and all his band members all have their own amazing musical pedigrees. Well worth looking up. David Hirschfelder has written film scores for well known movies. Feb'24. UK. E ❤
I guess out of respect to the great Angus, they wouldn't touch his famous moves. But props to the whole ensemble....ACDC with a symphony orchestra, John's the only one who could pull that of with such style. What agreat performance and great reaction. So so good watching people discover John for the first time. If I had a dollar for every time someone says ...how come we've never heard of this guy in America...I'd be rich The truth of it is that he did dip hos toe in the water in the US . They didn't quite know where he fit into the market over there and he soon discovered that to make it over there would require too much time away from his young family, so he made a conscious decision to stay at home and do the best he could fo over here. And that he did.
Did you know Angus was cabal? Think he has been executed - but not sure if it has been happened yet. We'll all find out soon when we have the EBS worldwide.
Did an awesome pressure down for the yanks...and I agree...reaction videos with John farnham they become aussie and realise Australia had soul blues and ballads...and move on to mossy...Barney...cold chisel...we grew up with the best rock...no gimmicks...no smoke and mirrors....just good instrumentalist..some of the best vocals and just RAW!!!! I PROMISED MYSELF I WOULDN'T CRY....LOL....everyone needs a little bit of Aussie rock in their lives...and we havnt talked about our women vocalist...vennessa..Kylie.. delta...ooooruuu
Wise man. Two young sons, happy and enduring family life with Jilly, loves Australia, did charity concerts when needed for things like relief for farmers who lost their crops, firefighters who dealt with horrendous bush fires. Other aussie artistes? Icehouse. Watch Great Southern Land m Feb '24. UK. E❤
Hey, you didn’t let it run till the end. John Farnham is the GOAT. Seriously, he can out sing anyone, any genre, that’s why we call him The Voice. A little too much talk about the mullet, but otherwise great reaction.👍
That’s me in every JF concert I attended…NOT sitting but up bopping to the music…we couldn’t help it…the music made us do it❤. The energy at his concerts was like a great high but without the drugs…. I was so very privileged ❤❤
I love your enthusiasm about our Farnsey! You did the song a bit of a disservice by stopping it before the big finish though. And there was a little too much hair-talk. But still, you've caught the Farnham fever now & there's no cure. Keep 'em coming! Hi from Melbourne, Australia.
Can we please give a round of applause for Brett Garsed on guitar! He is a fantastic guitar player and has his own style, he doesn't need to do an Angus Young!
It was Bon Scott playing the bagpipes in the original version of this song that gave John the idea of having them in You’re the Voice. John has said this is his favourite rock song. Enjoying your reactions and discovery of our John.
John was approached and even visited the US to think about moving there and becoming big in the US but he really just loved his life in Australia and he was happy just being known in the one country and bringing up his 2 boys in a quieter setting, I guess you'd say. He was humble and a great father to his kids and husband to his wife of many many years having married early in his 20's. He was really good friends with Olivia Newton John and they managed to sing together on her trips home and even up to the bushfire appeal in more recent years. I think he was know a bit in the UK. Both originally came from there as kids. I just love them together in DARE TO DREAM at the Sydney Olympics 2000 opening ceremony.
I’ve never heard that he was approached to go to the US but I can definitely see why he didn’t go. Unfortunately You’re the Voice didn’t do well in the States but it did chart well in Canada and Europe. Farnsey reported that America didn’t get it, nothing happened there and as such he decided not to tour as he didn’t like the idea of having to campaign.
@@Dr_KAP And it is a good thing he didn't go. I'm red pilled, know about the massive biblical/galactic WWIII we have been in and how the entertainment industry, sports industry, politicians, royals and CEO's have all been compromised to work for Enki (satan) via the cabal/illuminati. Many have been arrested and executed in the last few years for crimes against humanity. People are in for real shocks in the not too distant future when the next lockdown comes and the internet and banking systems close down and they find out via one channel on TV what has been going on. If you know someone you might refer to as a 'conspiracy theorist', get in contact and ask questions about the war and the ascension and the solar flash expected in late March. Start being proactive in knowing your immediate future and how this world is about to change. John did the right thing. He didn't get caught up in it all. Poor Michael Hutchence sadly got caught up with the cabal and they ended his life, and Paula Yates and her daughter - because of what they knew.
Apparently John said to his late manager Glenn Wheatley after both them finished up their commitments with the Little River Band in 1986 , he said mate ; please don’t make me famous in America according to Glenn Wheatley. John was exhausted with how LRB would be on the road for months he simply had enough and zero desire the be in the states for extended periods in time to boost he’s solo career . Plus American music charts pigeonhole everything the record company RCA couldn’t figure out what genre was You’re The Voice then they say it’s far too political it won’t sell . They wanted to release Pressure Down as first single from Whispering Jack in USA then RCA scrap that idea as well . You’re The Voice eventually got a American release date after Two Strong Hearts was a minor hit on billboard adult contemporary charts . You’re The Voice only peaked in 80’s on billboard hot 100 chart over 2 years after it’s official Australian release in 1986
Oh LMAO I can explain it because I'm 65 and I was from that era. This is what happened. America and the UK were in competition with each other back in the day and poor little Australia got squeezed out lol. But don't feel too bad for us because we had your music, the UK music and then our own which we kept to ourselves. It was music heaven.
John has also always been the first person to get musicians together for a charity event after a natural disaster like floods or bushfires. He lives performing and playing off the crowd. He also likes to share the limelight. He just loves playing around. He also clowns around when he appears on tv interviews too.
growing up in australia, this was one of the kids lunch singalong anthem song for decades.... "get a scone, get a solo.. get some toastie... spread with vegiemite..... get some scallops, and some hot chips... and splash them with some vinegar.... then sprinkled them with lots of chooky salt... and don't forget to tell the tucka folks, for more tomato and for more barbecue sauce..... cause it's a long way to the shops, if you want a sausage roll".....
John Farnham is over 70 now. His legacy is and always will be his voice and music. He's British born. Pray for John and family through his cancer of his mouth. C
Bon Scott, dude! The one and only. Have you ever seen the original video where they play on the back of a truck driving through the middle of Melbourne?
John faced the same issues that Cold Chisel did when trying to break into the US music market. The american record label Exec's were so set in their ways in how they perceived their audience expects their music to sound that they tried to boss around the aussie artists to make them sound american. The Aussies dug their heels in and refused to change for anyone. John wrote his song "Playing To Win", in response and as a bit of a slap in the face and as a warning that he didn't have to be there and that they had better get their act together or he would happily walk away and they would miss out on the deal of a lifetime. Ian and Jimmy from Cold Chisel wrote their song "You Got Nothing I Want!" as a massive slap in the face for the same Exec's who thought the world revolved around them. They thoroughly pointed out that the Exec's were fools who had no idea what they had failed to latch onto and their diplomacy skilled sucked terribly.
Exactly.... And how they underestimated their audience watching the US reacts now. I'm (selfishly) glad really, because we were so spoilt to have such great talent all to ourselves...
PS I love playing to win. I didn't know that. And although I've heard it thousands of times over, I need to listen to the words again, now that you've said that....
I've never heard that about playing to win, I thought it was about how he felt about his position in LRB. Gotta say I think there were more issues for cold chisel / Jimmy Barnes than just genre. Ultimately these artists really come from our culture and we get them and they get us in a way the Americans never could. I'm glad they have had such amazing careers here.
…I believe John Farnham did try the American music industry, however was rejected because he didn’t fit into one particular music genre!!?? Selfishly I’m glad, because we Aussies got to keep him and enjoy so many of his phenomenal concerts here in Australia for 50+ years!!!👌👍👏👏👏🎶🎶
Long Way To The Top is the late Bon Scott’s signature AC/DC song Brian Johnson out respect for Bon Scott refuses to sing it . John Farnham being a massive AC/DC fan and of Bon Scott , John adores the song and says that’s it’s he’s favourite rock n roll song and that he want to keep the song alive on stage , John is aware AC/DC doesn’t perform it anymore . Although John was very reluctant to record it , he was talked into it by the recording company they requested Long Way To The Top as a b side for Two Strong Hearts in 1988 and bonus track for CD version of the Age Of Reason album .
Many great Aussie singers to discover and rock singers too. From 1957..... Johnny O’Keefe Shake Baby Shake Shout The Wild One Sing ! Move Baby Move She’s My Baby 1958- Real Wild Child / Shake Baby Shake These videos are all available on U Tube..... can’t guarantee the video quality, and if he looks old, don’t bother. He kept performing until he couldn’t find his walking frame. lol 1960’s- Normie Rowe - Que Sera and Shakin All Over Doug Parkinson ( In Focus ) - Dear Prudence..... any version, even recent by an old man are still often brilliant. 1970’s onwards - Farnham and Jimmy Barnes you know about. Mark Lizotte ( Johnny Diesel )- Crying Shame and many more. Jon Stephens ( Noiseworks ) Dave Gleeson ( The Screaming Jets ) - Better October Grey Shivers 1993 - Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, live at Boggo Road Gaol / Jail. Forget the early stuff from the early 1960’s ..... consider the Sunbury videos from 1971 , but the Boggo Road concert is consistently better, as is Billy’s solo work in and for radio stations..... just him and his guitar - Most People I Know ( think I’m crazy ) and Somewhere Over the Rainbow..... true, it is brilliant. Also live in American radio stations, Colin Hay from Men At Work..... better than the whole group. lol And from New Zealand...... Split Enz - That was My Mistake And then renamed Crowded House...... too many songs to list. lol
We had the traditional mullet in Aus as well. We just improved it, lol. P.S.: Brian Johnson wasn't the first, or best, lead singer of ACDC, and not the lead singer for this song. Have you not heard of Bon Scott - Legend!!
Bon Scott the original singer of AC/DC (before his early death) was the original singer and also played the bagpipes not Brian. John does a fantastic job of anything he does.
You want another Aussie singer? Check out Matt Corby’s acoustic version of Brother on Like a Version. You’ll thank me later 😊 also don’t forget Jimmy Barnes as a solo singer- he has had a huge career since Cold Chisel!
After the death of Freddy Mercury, John was approached to be the new lead Singer of Queen, he turned that down. Freddy believed ( rightly so) that John has one of the best voices he had heard.
Yes he’s got it !!!🎉❤❤❤ and the band singers amd orchestra hey !! The place was moving literally as the last song of the night ( prior to the encores !!) there was a bit more ….
Angus does the Chuck Berry Duck walk. As a tribute to him. This song was done on the back of a truck, driving down the street, with Bon Scott, the lead sibger on bagpipes. He passed away young, after recomending they ask Brian Johnstire, if anything happened to him. Melbourne, Victoria, Aussie. The record execs in The USA, wanted changes, didn't like John's voice... he came home and you guys lost. He wanted to be home sometimes too. He had bad management before, wanted to choose his own songs. LRB gave him debt, from their recording history, he couldn't even give his kids maccas. Stations wouldn't play his records. Bad time had. Look for the recent movie about Farnsey.
Johnny! afl and basement fan with a suggestion..... I saw you played a lot of Farnham (which was good) and enjoyed watching :) I do have a request, even if you listen by yourself...It is Jimmy Barnes playing his blues song "Stone Cold" and features Joe Bonamassa doing his usual on guitar...It is amazing, an awesome pairing of talent. I reckon you'll enjoy it, so will your viewers, Cheers!
check out 'Electric Blue' or 'Crazy' by Aussie rock band Icehouse (official music video) if you wanna see a great mullet. The lead singer Iva Davies had a stunning one 😁
Mullets: to me there were 2 types in Australia , the bogan beer drinker and the upmarket like seen here. There are mullet competitions that are glorious 😂 and worth watching. Aussie true larrikins.
Midnight Oil dude! Blue Sky Mine Forgotten Years Power & the Passion Read About It US Forces The Dead Heart Beds Are Burning If you dig them, check out one of the greatest concert videos ever made - “Oils On the Water” - it’s a live gig from an island in Sydney Harbour in the 80s, and the band is on song, and the lead singer’s moves iconic.
Loved the reaction...but not so much the hair style monolog lol. And please make sure you watch the video to the end as this was cut short... Other than that I look forward to your Aussie content on your channel. I would recommend Guy Sebastian for other Aussie performances. Not sure if you only do Rock music though, as he is a singer /songwriter and writes about real life. He won the first Australian Idol and had so many number 1 hits. if you do it's best to view 'live' performances to avoid getting blocked. Some songs to view ... Choir....Standing With You, Battle Scars, Before I Go, Believer. Guy is also a Judge on The Voice Australia.
John did more duets with others including Olivia Newton-John “please don’t ask me”, Anthony Warlow (Opera / tenor) “Grenada”, back up singers “amazing grace”
Thanks for your great reaction. A different style for John but sensational is a duet with Olivia Newton-John (RIP) and the song is "Please don't ask me" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2uV_tZODfK8.html . I think you might enjoy it as you said you like all types of genres with your music
John doesn’t copy anyone. He makes covers his and people were worried if they thought John would do a cover of theirs. You do know Mullets are coming back again?
Sadly the mullet has made a resurgence in Australia thanks to the younger footy players and unfortunately my 9 year old son has a mullet thanks to his favourite footy player Sam Draper. I have hated mullets my whole life (I grew up in the 80’s) so I hate that my son has a mullet. I can’t wait until he gets rid of it 😁 the only redeeming thing is his curls that appeared when he grew it.
I reckon the one he did at Expo 88 in Brisbane was better - more power in his voice. Plus the interview at the end with beer in hand showing his every man personality lacking the ruthlessness required to make it in the US (a good thing). Absolute legend. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xmt8is7t9bY.html
Firstly John Farnham ❤️ Secondly lol.... You talking about mullets... On your other channel when reacting to AFL hahaha you'll lose your mind seeing the real mullet on the likes of Bailey Smith Western Bulldogs or Sam Draper Essendon etc 🤣!!!!!
dear johnny and the overtimes please please do the ORIGINAL version of this song with BON SCOTT. you will know if you've got the right one if it's performed on the back of a truck driving through the city of melbourne. oh yeah and they're all bloody mullets
John chose family over international exposure and continual touring. I believe he had a small following in the UK, and a small number of European countries; through album sales.
Yeah Brian Johnson will not sing this song out of respect for Bon Scott it’s him that sings this not Brian , it’s Bon’s he song.. It’s John Farnham favourite rock & roll song and he has always sings it right up until 2020. He was friends with Bon Scott.. 😀🇦🇺👍
Check out Jimmy Barnes from his solo years try Stone Cold by Jimmy Barnes featuring Joe Bonamassa. I'm sure you already know that Jimmy was lead or co lead of Cold Chisel but he also had an incredibly successful solo career.
Oh aye and the guitar "duck walk" was first done by Chuck Berry, nothing to do with Angus, apart from he and loads of others copied it. At least thirty off years late you're discovering John Farnham. 😬
Mate, The original with Bon Scott on the back of a semi singing this while driving up Swanston street Melbourne is the standard ! Brian is great, but listen to the original ! Hey Farnsey is the greatest, but listen to the original ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g-qkY2yj4_A.html BTW, Go the Tigers !
Watch early Little River Band if you go down that path.....as good as John is he wasn't the best fit for LRB. Glenn Shorrock, their first singer was better for them and they were also better back then.
