The Copa America starts a week on Friday, the first match is Argentina v Canada (One South American one North American team) So the OPs description is accurate it's the world cup (in that it follows a similar structure to the World Cup) But for the America's (both north and south America) Your ignorance of the tournament and poetic language is disturbing.

soccer is also infinitely more physically intense than american football and requires a fk ton more endurance given a soccer player runs 8-12km in 90 minutes at high levels while in american football a match lasts around 3 hours and players run roughly 2km. 2 km over 180+ minutes vs 10km (lets say average) over 90 minutes That's 5 times the distance ran in half the time. Thats 6.6km ran in an hour compared to 666m average ran in an hour. That's 10 times more.

That is an interesting thing, but the problem is that the richest teams just buy championships--it's kind of like baseball, here, but worse. Who wants to watch that BS?--if you don't have money you can't win. NFL, NHL, NBA all have salary caps which genuinely allows every team to build and win. Relegation/promotion is related to money. Advancing in NFL, NHL, NBA is about having a great organization.

Many cities in Europe have rival teams that represent not only a geographical area but a cultural and social subset, like there is often one team with a clear working-class identity and another wich may represent an academic identity, because they originated among factory workers versus students. Other teams may be representative of a certain immigrant community or have political connotations. Especially in eastern Europe there are some teams who's supporters are on the far-right of the political spectrum and some may be outright fashists or neo-na*is, so maybe do some research before you pick one of those. Today, the vast majority of clubs are privately owned, and the top clubs are often owned by business billionaires, oil Princes or oligarchs. Some countries like Sweden maintain the old system where "clubs" are actual clubs or associations owned by card-holding members, IE the fans themselves. Hooligan culture is a scourge on European football. It varies with time and place but there are still enough young men who are enthralled by this sort of machoistic subculture to ensure that basically every major european team will have a substantial group of fans who are expressing hooliganism as part of their supporter identity. The hardcore passionate identity-ism that feeds hooliganism is deeply engrained in football supporter culture. As much as teams say they want nothing to do with violent and hateful expressions, they are never late to push the right buttons to encourage a certain level of passionate animosity towards rival teams (or just any other team). Basically any expression of supporterism will contain an element of this "spirit of competitive ness". Kids learn these love-hate dynamics for teams in kindergarten and it takes a certain level of maturity to understand that it is all just fun and games. Some people never get it, and it is utterly pathetic to see grown men profess their heart-felt hatred of a rival team, not realizing that there wouldn't be much of a game if there wasn't other teams. The matches would be rather boring if there weren't any fans of the rival team there to fill out the rafters. Others, (most?), aknowlegge how bizarre the whole thing is, but shrug it off and keep playing the charade because of how much joy it brings them to belong to a group with a clearly defined "enemy", regardless of how fabricated the thing is. Going to a match will be like taking a drug that gives you a rush of shared emotion, of anticipation, excitement and bliss, or disappointment, despair, outrage, and lust for retribution. Supporters willingly enter a state of temporary mass-psychosis, just for the thrill of it. Needless to say, lots of people get hooked on this drug and struggle with moderation. Some use their passion as fuel for violent and destructive behaviour, to further ride the high when the blood runs hot.

As a fan of both from a nation where football/soccer is the primary sport (was also a fan of football/soccer way before american football) it's literally the complete opposite of this.

@@riquetc0060 football is an ongoing constantly moving game where every position and marking is important and instantly has to be adjusted yet small little mistakes are not over important. american football is analized and cut down to every person on the field by every trainer available and you are constantly switching out whole entire teams for eather offense or defense and special teams, the players are barely moving and most of the time the clock is stopped and everything comes constantly to a total hold. so yes, american football is more chess, but football is never rly stopping, so its the advanced version of chess like the board game "go", with way more possiblities and outcomes and also the physical aspekt but also the technical aspekt is very important whilst in american football the physicality component is way over important, still skill is importan of course, but you cant win if your line of offense or defense is just not as big and powerfull as the other ones, you can be as skilled as you want, they will own you! this is not the case in football!
